I'm an 8th grader at Gateway, some people may say this school is bad, but I actually like it. When I was in elementary school I wasn't that good at math, or science. Now, I have a B in science and an A in math, with algebra 1. I feel like since I got in Gateway, it really helped me get better. Plus, I get to do sports since I do better in school while doing sports.

I am a Gateway grad from a few years ago. I am currently attending and flourishing at a very well respected private university. I always took the highest level classes offered, even the AP sciences at Gateway. At college my Gateway education hasn't let me down. At my university most of the other kids went to prep high school or the Haddonfield type public high schools. Yet I have never felt inferior to them in my classes. They may have learned better and more in their high school classes and been able to take more APs than me. But in the same university class I was equally prepared to tackle the new subject matter. Gateway's writing program is fantastic. I won a award for my writing in my freshman year based on the skills I learned at Gateway. I also am a mathematics major. I found Calc 1 and Calc 2 here a breeze and near identical to my Gateway honors Calc class. A Gateway education may not have the flashy APs or innovative programs than other high schools do, but it is a good solid foundation from which the student can go anywhere if he/she chooses to apply and push it.

My second child is now in high school in all AP classes. There hasn't been much of a change in the inferior quality of teaching since my first child graduated in 2003. There are a few decent teachers for which I am grateful. It is a shame that the students are NOT prepared for college upon graduating. Public school education is a joke and incompetent teachers should not be able to keep their positions because of tenure. It's time to clean house!

Without tenure, the majority of the teachers at this unremarkable school would quickly be applying for unemployment. The NJEA has ruined the NJ Public School System. I strongly recommend home schooling, over sending your children to this dreadful pit.

This school is nice. Just make sure you check it out first. You will be amazed at how some teachers really care for the kids (exceptionally Mrs. Anastasi) and how our school testing records are high.

What is the GreatSchools Rating?

The GreatSchools rating is a simple tool for parents to compare schools based on test scores, student academic growth, and college readiness. It compares schools across the state, where the highest rated schools in the state are designated as “Above Average” and the lowest “Below Average.” It is designed to be a starting point to help parents make baseline comparisons. We always advise parents to visit the school and consider other information on school performance and programs, as well as consider their child's and family's needs as part of the school selection process.
