Profile Completeness

INTERMEDIATE

Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

This sweet little community school is the right place for your child if you're looking for great communication skills, empathy, community, academics, art, and play. Whole people are nourished here. The teachers and administrators are inspiring. We've had two children go through the program and have been very happy. Highly recommended!

I love the community environment. The word community is more than a catchphrase on the sign. My family has been embraced by the members here. The staff is engaged, educated, and operates with integrity. We very much appreciate the patience and love this school has shown our children.

Mountain Mahogany School is a new school this year for my Grandson. He is doing well and I enjoy getting updates and photos of him on his learning activities weekly. The teachers make a point to know all the kids names and recognize the parents during pickup. He is enjoying his learning environment at MMCS.

MMCS is a fantastic school in so many ways! My child has just started middle school and we are both impressed with the program. The teachers are inspiring and care about every students success. The communication with parents and the little personal touches make the mid school experience so special. I can't tell you how wonderful it is to get weekly photos and updates. Thank you Mountain Mahogany!

Mountain Mahoghany Community Schoool is a new school for my daughter. The school's adminstraters and teachers are great. I haven't seen this much enthusiasm and involvement at any school that my children have attended in the past. My daughter loves the school, teachers and is excited about going to school every day. The school very recently experienced vandalism and a fire which destroyed much of what the school has worked so hard to accomplish. A compassionate campus and a safe school environment. If they could win this sweepstakes, it would greatly benefit the school at this time.

Over all Mountain Mahogany is GREAT! I have 2 daughters attending MMCS. My oldest was in a private school for 4 years, so it was a bit of a challenge at first with the lack of structure (and zero homework) in the classroom but now that she's in middle school it's been quite different. She has had some homework but not as much as I thought or think she should have, but it's still very early in the year and there is definitely more structure within the classrooms. My youngest is having a blast with finger knitting and gardening. Her teacher is organized, excited to teach, seems to have the class "together" (structured) and keeps the parents informed and involved. I'm looking forward to a great year! It would be such a blessing if MMCS won the sweepstakes, especially with the school just being vandalized. :(

If you're looking to drop your kid off at school and that's their education, then this school is unlikely to be a good fit for your family. If you are looking for a learning community to be part of as a parent, this school might be what you're looking for. There is mandatory parent involvement, a lot of community input into the functions of the school, and values/mission-based curriculum and culture. Go to their website and read their charter and other documents carefully, they are a good place to gain an understanding of the school's mission.

I've been going here since kindergarten! I love it the teacers help me with things I'm having trouble with and I always love making sure I have good grades!! I'm also am able to go on trips and com back and do my school work on the trip. They give that opportunity to see the world!! The school is like a family, a community we all work together to make sure we have a safe and healthy learning and growing experience. I feel welcomed for who I am. I love there and I'm sad this my last year there them I go into high school. Sincerely to MMCS, Kabira

This is a really creepy school in a bad neighborhood, anyone can just get on campus if needed and there is no security. The office staff is rude and unorganized and this school needs to be closed down!

Focuses on kids' strengths - very accepting of where kids are in their development without trying to make them into something they aren't.

Mountain Mahogany is a dream come true for us. The curriculum provides training and practice in effective conflict resolution amongst peers, vocabulary on feelings and needs. I love that my kids are learning a vocabulary to express themselves and an ability to connect with others. When I drop them off at school, they go running! What a joy as a parent to see my children love their school.

I love the personal attention, understanding, and appreciation for the earth and our world that is taught at Mountain Mahogony Community School in Albuquerque, NM. They care for each child and encourage enthusiasm and eagerness to learn. My granddaughter's teacher spends his personal time teaching her how to play guitar and sing, which has done wonders for her self esteem. I would highly recommend this school!

MMCS is such a wonderful environment for children. It embodies everything that education should be! It is an organic curriculum with the most amazing teachers! MMCS even has a 2010 Golden Apple Award Winner - Ms. Jen Chavez-Miller! All the teachers are wonderful!

While other schools have no educational time -- and little recreational time -- outdoors, Mountain Mahogany teaches students more than an hour a day outdoors, where their senses are sharpest and memory most open. At a time when other schools are cutting art programs to nothing, MMCS uses art in every part of the curriculum. My son feels successful and learns successfully because MMCS teaches the human part of him.

Mountain Mahogany Community School is an unique and distinctive school. The Campassionate Campus models nurturing interaction, standards based curriculum is meaningful and effectively taught through strategies such as Singapore Math, Oral Storytelling, and the great 'outdoor classroom.' Experiential education and land-based learning takes place within the gardens, orchard, 'edible campus,' and local adventures to the Bosque! My children love MMCS and have thrived there.

Mountain Mahogany (K-6) stimulates the entire learning apparatus, and expands and enhances the child's capacity for awareness, comprehension, empathy, and compassion, rather than merely conditioning them to regurgitate textbook content. Mountain Mahogany has had a tremendously positive impact on our entire household.

I Love the way they approach problem solving between students. They have a whole different aapproach compared to public schools. Maybe the public schools need to look deeper into what is working on this particular school's campus and open a pilot program to see how it would fare.:)

Mountain mahogany is a pioneering K-8 school that not only teaches academic success, but also strives to teach non-violence, humanitarianism, environmental awareness, and community unity. This is done by teaching the 'whole child.' Not just using one model of education, but multiple forms so when our children are adults not only will they be able to succeed in the academic realm, but will have the skills to met life's challenges with compassion and tolance.

Academically both challenging and encouraging, as a community we work together to educate our children in a format that is more well-rounded than what is available in public schools and in a system that is open-minded to the natural differences between individuals.

This is a wonderful place where children learn through everyday tasks such as cooking, gardening. They have great 'out of the box' discussions about math and numbers... My kindergartner was understanding fractions, based on the cooking lessons when this concept is usually not introduced until 3rd grade. Awesome learning going on here! Not only academics (This school does meet AYP as of Aug 2008) but they are learning wonderful compassion and communication skills here in this loving, nurturing community.
