The school office staff is very unprofessional, even rude, and seem to have difficulty following simple instructions.
This school is the BEST! The teachers truly care and Glenda Armstrong is such a capable leader.
I'm now going to 7th grade but this was the best elementary school I've ever went to put of the 3. I attented this school for kindergarten through 3rd grade. I made some really close friends at this school. The kids are friendly and definitely the teachers. The lunch was delicious. The playgrounds were so much fun because there's two of them! (Sand and grass) I had outstanding report cards thanks to all my teachers!
What a wonderful, nurturing school. We, parents, are fortunate to have AMAZING teachers work daily with our two children and soon third. However, because of various reasons, I believe, the school has some classrooms that are not as challenging or as engaged as others. The experience, from the parents' side, is "hit or miss", an inconsistency of quality of teachers from year to year. It is apparent to those parents, who are extremely well informed, which teachers are excellent in each year. However, unfair to those parents who may be less in the "know" there some less than enthusiastic teachers that are part of the school as well. The principal is very caring and we appreciate her attention to many details. However, her attention to minutia and details do not help her to see a strategic vision for the school nor help her to implement and work on larger changes or issues. Transparency for information, whether good or not so good, is always helpful to parents. She is not forthcoming with challenging information and will bog us many times down with too much detail. Leadership means having to do and say things in a timely way that is sometimes difficult.
As an educator, I find this school to be an excellent place in which to work. Staff cohesiveness is strong, exceeding that of many comparable schools that struggle to create unity in their vision to meet the needs of the students. The principal is a team player who supports all staff and welcomes democratic processes that create a collaborative system in which all interested players have a hand. Parental involvement at Bandelier outstrips most other schools, with dedicated parents who put their thoughts and ideas into action through advocacy and participation. The Banda Bear community makes this a well-rounded school of high quality.
It really depends on your childs activeness in school. My daughter is in the Gifted program and is overjoyed, Ms.Serafin is by far the best teacher my daughter's ever had! But, my son and youngest daughter are having some amount of trouble keeping up in class. So I would like to see some confidence put back in them for education.
My son is in Kindergarten now with Ms. Lea and she is truly remarkable. The facilities are great, the PTA is strong and the long time traditions such as the Halloween Carnival add so much to our experience. The most remarkable thing about this school, though, is the strong sense of community amongst the families. We have made fast friends here and we are very glad to be part of the Bandy community.
absuloutly awsome. the teachers are great and the students are competitive and thrive for their goals.
The current principal has been in the position at least three years and before that served as interim principal and assistant principal. Are you sure you have the correct information and school? I believe her leadership is strong and she has been responsive to my concerns.
The teachers, students and parents are wonderful- but the new principal is not responsive to parents (is she to teachers?) and her leadership is non existent. We have to do something about it.
This school is turning 70 years old, has fantastic parent involvement, and the longest continuously running Halloween Carnival in the area. It is a Liberal Arts Magnet School, and offers free after-school programs to all students. It's a great school!!!
While this school is above average with regard to facilities, parent involvement, and extracurricular activities, the classrooms environments are a mixed bag. The school has been resting on its laurels for quite some time, but there is a sense of disenchantment among teachers and parents, at least at certain grade levels. The administration keeps parents at arm's length and is not particularly supportive or responsive. Discipline/behavioral issues have seriously interfered with my child's classroom experience for two years in a row, making for a meager learning environment. The teacher/student ratio can be downright poor since APS (I think) reduced the number of EAs. The kids do a lot of worksheets. Just because you get into a 'good' district doesn't mean your navigation of the system has ended. Stay involved and keep an eye on what is going on in your child's classroom.
I love how my daughter has gone on 2 field trips a month since starting school to have hands on learning and experiance with the subject they are learning at the time. I just love the teacher and the setting my daughter is in. she loves school, and I love that.
I am so impressed by the academic setting and overall spirit of whole child development at Bandelier. My daughter is so happy with her classroom, her teacher, and her peers. I cannot recommend this school highly enough, it is just fabulous.
Both my sons attended Bandelier from 1st to 5th. They both had a fabulous time. The teachers are motivated, caring and the administration is first rate. I say this as both a parent and as an senior education administrator (non-APS).
I think Bandelier is a wonderful school! I love the location, I love the staff, I love the teachers, and the students are amazing! My son's teacher last year, Ms. Lea, was incredible! She recognized that our son was having problems with learning, brought it to our attention, and immediately suggested that we take action. He has been evaluated by several Banderlier faculty, and we are now on our way to help him learn...his way. I am so thankful for them!
This is an excellent school. The teachers develop learning programs that are tailored to our kids. We love the extracurricular program. Parents, you'll be challenged too--there are many opportunities to volunteer, but that is also a strength for me. A strong, involved community.
I was a student at Bandelier last year and I'm now in the 6th grade. I had gone there since the 1st grade. Nikki Dennis is a wonderful school leader. ALL of the teachers are wonderful. What I loved about this school was that Ms. Dennis knows everyone by name, and the teachers are so loving and caring. Bandelier has build the strongest foundation any child could have. The school is small, the kids are great, and there are so many activities and fun people. Every child is treated fairly and with lots of special attention. DO NOT send your child to this school if they are not serious about learning because they won't fit in!
This is the best school I ever attended. They also have a great PTA, and a wide variety of after school programs.
Bandelier is a charming and wonderful place for both parents and students alike! I recently moved in my city and my daughter is now in a different school and OH how I regret it. Being a rather eccentric person I was delighted to see a wide variety of people there, even eccentric people like me. The kids there are friendly and the staff there completely devoted to the school. Children are treated as individuals and respected for their differences, the extracirricular activities are ABUNDANT and the parent involvement was impressive. People get to know your face quickly and smile at you when you come, this is NOT the case in all schools as I am finding out. I would go back to Bandelier in a heartbeat. The school is in a wonderful historic building, has an amazingly huge soccer field and is right by Hyder Park (great place).
