My oldest son who is a senior at sandia high has done so well in school even with a slight learning disability in math .He will graduate with a 3.5 GAP this year .He got his start at Monte vista from K to 5th it was a great school for us . I never aging felt so closes to teachers and the path of my sons academic success for the rest of his years in school. my younger son will be 5 this year and we intend to move back to the UNM community witch is really home any way So the little one can start Monte Vista and his brother who 12 years ago was in kindergarten at Monte vista can start UNM.
Monte Vista has some of the best teachers I have ever encountered, a supportive community, and an administration that helps the teachers be creative and flexible in their teaching methods. But it is really the teachers that make the school. They are without parallel.
The school is focused on the wellness of the whole community, looking at physcal, socialand emotional health as well as academic success.
I agree with most of the other statements about Monte Vista. The teachers are awesome and the parents involved. The community around Monte Vista/UNM is very diverse both racially and economically. We love the school - the only drawback is the principal, who is unresponsive to parent and teacher concerns. Luckily, she can be avoided.
I was a student at Monta Vista and now its my daughters turn! She started kindergarden last year and LOVED it! Now shes starting 1st grade and there is NO OTHER school i would want her at!! WE LOVE MONTA VISTA AND THE TEACHERS!! Cathy Sierra is HIGHLY recomended!!!!!!!!!
My grandson was in kindergarden last year and grew so much in all his skills there with the teachers he can read all the way up to 2nd grade books to me and is teaching his younger sister that is only 2 years old what he was taught now that is progress, Now i will look into sending my other grandchildren that with the help of there parents first.
My four children attended Monte Vista K-5 and it was a superb experience for all of them. Diverse teaching styles maintained integrity with strong and creative curriculum while always repecting students as individuals. Principal leadership provides a strong professional regard for teachers to maintaain personal style in this day of increasing stadardization of our society and its members.
My daughter has been there for three years, my wife and I have loved all of the teachers and programs. She has really grown at Monte Vista and is very happy there.
What was once the public elementary school to transfer to, has steadily declined in quality of education over the last 6 years or so. There are still some great teachers but they are becoming weary of discipline issues and lack of leadership. On the flip side, Monte Vista is a 76 year old school in the University area, which attracts all different kinds of families.
My granddaughter's third-grade experience at Monte Vista was superb. Her teacher was one of the best I've seen from my experience as a student, mother and now grandmother. I recommend MVE to anyone who wants a positive, quality experience for their child.
Mote Vista is an awesome educational community! My daughter went there or grades K-5 and my son is now a 4th grader. They have both received an incredible education and we feel they are being thoroughly prepared for secondary learning. The school specializes in out-of-the-box and critical thinking skills! The fine arts play a huge role in the education of MV students. You won't find students walking in single file lines with their hands behind their backs, but you will find creative thinking and compassion and constant hands-on learning. MV is located close to UNM campus and classes OFTEN go the university campus for enrichment activities and learning opportunities. The staff at Monte VIsta - specifically the teachers and assistants are HIGHLY QUALIFIED and share a great deal of passion and enthusiasm with their students! Monte Vista ROCKS!!!!
I taught there, and feel that there is great parent involvement, the will of the staff and parents to work for what's best for kids and not just blindly follow orders about federal policy - most of the teachers are amazing, putting in many hours over stated contract obligations, and it was really easy to teach there. It's diverse both in socioeconomic status and ethinicity.
The Principal is ambivalent to behavioral problems, and hostile when questioned. The teachers are great and work hard. Parent's are very involved. Great school spirit.
My oldest went to Monte Vista for all his K-5 years. I also have 3 other children in the school. The after school programs provide a variety of activities (free and cost). The teachers have worked with the children and have been an encouragement to our family. The PTA works hard on fundraisers to provide music and art at the school for at least one semester each. Parent involvement varies depending on the year, but seems to remain steady in its support. Even though we have moved out of the district, we have worked to keep our kids in Monte Vista.
