Hi sambaadhyam,

A great place to start is here:

Type in the city name and narrow the search to elementary schools. You'll be able to further narrow it down if you want to limit the search to private, public, or charter schools.

When you get down to a few schools, call and schedule tours.

Good luck!

I have a 4th grader and a 2nd grader at Immanuel Lutheran School. It is a great school in downtown Albuquerque. The tuition is very reasonable and we've really enjoyed the teachers. The website is and I believe they have folks who schedule tours that are offered every week.

Check here for ratings, but I will say parents in my neighborhood said not to waste money on private school and send them to SY Jackson instead. I have to say that it was by far the best elementary school my kids have ever attended--and there have been a lot over the years and moves. I hope you will be lucky enough to visit them.

I love love love SY Jackson. My son is in the gifted program there and has had the BEST teachers ever. They've helped us navigate the "gifted" world, which was new for us. The principal, Mr. Vermillion is amazing. He actually attended the school when he was a kid. Responsive, kind and really academic and socially oriented. They don't tolerate bullying and have a very diverse population.

Our kids have attended Immanuel Lutheran School since 1st grade. They provide consistency and fairness with structured rigorous academics. Strong focus on the humanities, the Saxon math really needs to go. Good administration, committed teachers, kids from families that care. If you need it, tuition-aid is available.
