What I love about my kids going to Prince of Peace Lutheran School. By the 3rd grade, they compete in speech contests, and so learn how to speak professionally in front of a large crowd. This is a very valuable skill! Every class caters to every kid, and they are allowed to perform at the level they need to be! The kids are taught to respect each other and their teachers. Every week they learn a new bible verse! They learn how to be awesome writers! They have music, art and PE. And the math program....WOW! The teachers really listen to the parents and CARE about what you have to say! The list goes on and on! My kids have become amazing members of society going there! GO POP!
Prince of Peace has some terrific assets, such as Biblical teachings, some phenomenal teachers, and involved parents. However, as of the 2012-2013 school year, books and materials are antiquated. Students have little access to current technology. Discipline and dress code are also very inconsistent.
My daughter attended POP from 5th-8th grade ending in 2006. She had excellent teachers and was well prepared for high school. She enjoyed the community service activities, music (band & bell choir), and chess club, confirmation class, science fair and Christian speech contest. I felt that discipline and the dress code was fair and appropriate. I especially appreciated the Wednesday chapel services that are presented by each class. This school has a very warm and loving environment, where each child is special.
My child is in the middle school at Prince of Peace and I am very pleased with the academics, small classrooms and close attention received from each of the four instructors. The new language arts teacher has a strict, no-nonsense attitude and my child has made huge improvements in behavior and performance because of her. My child is also able to participate in daily Bible study, weekly chapel, art, Spanish, tennis, newspaper club, ski club, and science fair. I feel this school provides a superior alternative to public school.
My daughter attended this school for 2 years (4-6). I became actively involved in the PTO, concerned about dress issues for a Christian school who was supposed to be working towards accredidation. Had everything approved all the way up to the board and then somewhere changes started happening and by the end of the first quarter the kids were back to what they'd been wearing before. The school accamedically is only a bit better than public school. The one thing I liked is that the school was smaller and there was more attention towards bullying. They did not get their computers up and running until 2007-2008 school year and in many ways they were behind the national average.
Flexible learning environment that allows children to work at appropriate level, hands-on science, small class size, great parent involvement.
Invloved parents and caring environment in Albuquerque's East Mountains. Just got wireless internet, and continue to add resources such as a new band. Charter for local Boy Scout and Cub Scout groups.
