EVHS is good school. It does have some really good teachers and some that are not so good. I believe that because of required state testing some teachers cater to students that are really not interested in learning. This can create problems for students that excel and need to be challenged. I also feel that the dress code as written in the handbook should be enforced. That does not mean uniforms but just enforcing what is already in the handbook. Overall the school is good and I feel they are trying to get better.

I transferred to this school for my Sophomore Year from neighboring Los Alamos High and this is the best choice I could've done in my life so far. this school is like a family, students and staff have personal bonds and can discuss issues with them. Student Council is amazing at this school! The Student Council will be hosting the annual New Mexico Association of Student Councils State Conference in two years at the school. They will be showcasing the wonderful traits of this school that are often overlooked for the negativity. I am so fortunate and happy to have moved to this school!

Espanola is a great school, with great teachers that want the best for their students. Although, I don't agree with the superintendent choice of choosing Theresa Flores as Principal. It is hard to believe this school has seen 2 principals in 2 years. This would have never happened if they kept Bruce Hopmeier!

As a former student now enrolled in the California State University system, I can look back at my time at good ol' Espanola Valley and say it was a great high school that gave me every bit of knowledge for the real world. A great experience that I won't forget. This school has some amazing teachers that dedicate their lives to their students. Mr & Mrs. McGinn, Ms. Roney and Mrs. Wood are some of the most experienced teachers that love to work with their students. The counseling staff is wonderful, and the former principal Bruce Hopmeier was one of the most inspirational people I have ever met. This community may have a "reputation" but this school, has a reputation for success with students that leave it. Go Espanola!

There is a new principal at EVHS, he may not be the same as the principal they fired for political reasons but I still believe the curriculum and academics are setting a higher stage at Espanola. When we moved to Espanola 3 years ago I never knew we would actually be sending our children here. I have been really impressed and others should take advantage of this really great high school instead of sending their children to neighboring schools.

It is sad to see Espanola's principal to be let go, just like that. He is someone who has changed this school for the better. They will regret this decision. As a parent of a former student this school is excellent and I hope it continues to stay that way with the new leadership next school year.

Today 4/8/2010 I read an article in the Rio Grand SunTitled Veteran High School Principal Unhappy with lack of Explanation...' Mr. Hopmeier was recently informed by a first year SUperintendent That she has decided not to renew his contract. Well, here we go again. After seven years of clean-up and great morale for both students and Teachers this Superintendent states she wants to take the school in a different direction....What the ---- is she thinking? The school is going in the right direction. The paper stated Hopmeier's school met the State Standards only once..... It had never ever done that before. Improvement takes time and continuity. I feel so sorry for the teachers, the student and the parents that are going to get caught up in Ms. Archuleta's political agenda. She hired her sister-in-law. Need I say more? She is playing games with real people's lives. I say fire her.

I'm a proud parent of a Sundevil. Sending my son to Espanola was a good choice. One thing I liked the most about Espanola was if your child was a senior or a junior and took classes half day, The school would pay for afternoon college classes at Northern New Mexico College while attending EVHS. Not only did EVHS offer a great education for my son, they got him off to an early start in college and the conseling staff was amazing. I definitely recommend Espanola!

Espanola Valley High School offers a nice and friendly environment, interesting and inspiring teachers, and fun students with different interests. I was not involved with sports but got into yearbook, the awesome student council, and other extra curriculars, and I'd have to strongly disagree that sports take center stage at Espanola. They are a part of student life, as they are at any school, but the athletic program is not overbearing and students are not as preoccupied with jocks and cheerleaders as they are at any other school I've ever seen. At Espanola, I had some of the most interesting, inspiring teachers who taught students to be free-thinking individuals. And as a student who now attends a University on the east coast, I can attest to the fact that these qualities are not found in a lot of high schools in our country.

At first I sent my two children to neighboring Pojoaque, I swithched them to Espanola last year and wow, I made the best choice so far. At Espanola the number of clubs is fantastic and unlike anyother I have seen. Both my children are involved in the M.E.S.A program which stands for Mathematics, Engineering, Science Achievement. Espanola is one of the top state placers for the M.E.S.A program as well as for the SADD, Students against drunk driving which keeps EVHS students involved in the community to end the DWI statistic that Rio Arriba county has. I'm glad to see that the teahers are so outstanding at Espanola, they keep in touch with me and always make learning a blast. I recommend Espanola for many reasons, At first the schools test scores had made me a bit worried but that certainly does not prove much about such a great school.

They are close with the students, they form a bond with the students to help them in anything, and are always there when we needed them. For that i'm thankful because my first year in college was fantastic they got me prepared!

Our School may not have 'The best test scores' but that dosesnt prove a thing. I mean honestly, think about it?, This school has really bright students, students that soar for the platinum scholarships. I admire this school, It is a great learning enviroment. Regardless of what people say about Espanola, It doesnt matter becuase we prove all wrong.

Espanola is the perfect place to learn and thrive for any student planning on attending a higher education institution. The clubs and some sports are top notch and teachers make themselves easily available. The school recently added many new AP classes so the course selection is rigorous for those who choose to pursue that challenge. The principal is absolutely amazing and the staff is wonderful. I would recommend evhs to anyone who plans on being challenged and for someone who simply wants to learn in a great and now such a safe environment.

A Great School with top of the line teachers, this school also has a fantastic boys and girls basketball program!
As a parent and former graduate of EVHS i belive it is a great school, the block system at the school is also very impressive it is another reason why i send my children to Espanola. I have 2 kids enrolled in EVHS and i belive this school is preparing them for the life long challenges they will face in the future, the teachers are great, sometimes the administration of the school lacks in some areas, but i must say the athletics are fantastic especially in basketball.

As a concerned parent I'm proud to send my kids to Espanola Valley for certain reasons, the counseling staff is really great. The Juniors counselor Mrs. Atencio is wonderful in everything she does, she sits with the students and meets with them regularly, i also belive the principal has changed this school and made it become more safe.
