South Mountain Elementary School

SME is the best elementary school in the east mountains! My kids have been attending this school for the past 6 years, and we have always had a such a positive experience here. The principle is so caring, and genuine. His open door policy appreciated, while his dedication to the children and the school goes above and beyond. His involvement with the PTO and his leadership skills are evident throughout the school. The majority of the teachers are determined to make the school a place where kids love to come to learn, and form a solid team of educations amongst themselves. SME is a beautiful community where parental evolvement is highly encouraged and appreciated. Out of school activities sponsored by the PTO are always fun, and help complete the circle of community that SME strives for. I highly recommend this school. I feel blessed that we live near such a great school, where I know where our kids come first.

We've had our kids at this elementary for 3 years now and they have all done excellent academically. The teacher to student ratio is good. We used to live in the city Las Vegas, NM and decided to move to a small town community for a safer environment for our kids. We're glad we did. South Mountain is a great school. I would rate it a 5 star if they had a better play ground for the kids and a better food program.

I just moved here from GA and was terrified about the schools in NM. I was told of constant violence and VERY poor education. Here at South Mountain there is NO worries. The kids get a GREAT education and it is a VERY safe school. I just love it!!!

My son learned surprised me often of the variety of topics and activities that he had at school. Mrs. Florentino is an outstanding teacher that gives her students everything she has, and then some! She is supported by a great faculty.

South Mountain is awesome!! Principal Josh McCleave is incredible, great with the kids and parents! The teachers rock! We've always had fantastic teachers! And the Parent Organization has always been the best, lots of activities, very active parents, and Jennifer Werner has done an amazing job!

We love this school and his teaching is fantastic. She, Mrs. Florentino, took a boy that was below average on the tests and he recently took the same test and is above benchmark. Parent participation is encouraged and welcomed. I love that. The principal is hands on and couldn't be nicer. School secretary is very warm and personal. The nurse is wonderful. I don't think there's anything I can say negative about it as a parent.

SME is amazing! I have enjoyed it from the day we registered. I have not had any negative experiences and find it hard to believe there would be any low ratings on this school. The staff is delightful! The curriculum is fun and thorough in my opinion; atleast for my kindergartener. The school encourages parent volunteering, which means so much to the students when a parent of theirs is at the school. I have heard only positive comments on this school even before my first child attended, and it has proved to be accurate. And of course, I can't forget the great school, staff and successful students are influenced by the wonderful principal they have.

Good school. Just need to work some more in special needs kids. and maybe make some other special needs teachers availible. teaching needs to be a little more flexable in syle for the children. but overall better than most in this area. Very Very good Principal. He is always nice and curdious and listens to the problems at hand. he frequently helped my daughter get on the bus when she was having a hard day.. Just need better speicals programs...
