I'm a junior, brand new to New Mexico, and RRHS is by the far the nicest high school campus I've ever seen. It's like a little college. My two AP teachers definitely challenge me, but compared to Colorado, classes like US History and math are embarrassingly easy. The dress code is enforced occassionally. But the principal is extremely involved, parents always know what's going on, and I'm really glad I got the chance to be a Ram.
My 9th grader loves it. He likes his teachers, the challenge, the campus and I really like how all the teachers and counselors have been so accessible and willing to work with me (as a parent).
My son just graduated from RRHS and I also had an exchange student attend RRHS. It is a great school and much better the ABQ. My daughter attended ABQ and her school work was a piece of cake. When we moved to RR my son learned very quick that he had to actually put forth effort in RR to get decent grades. As far as the dress code it is a piece of cake as well. There were times where I thought my exchange student should have been sent home for the way she dressed however; she never was sent home. I specifically had our home built in RR so my son could attend RRHS. I do not regret it for a moment.
This school only cares about dress code and issues are not addressed. I hate this district from the superintendant down and these schools with the midhigh being the worst.
great school. Your Child's experence here will well perpair them for colledge
I am currently a junior attending Rio Rancho High School. I have no skepticism regarding the teaching skills of the instructors there, however I have recently found the dress code quite irrational. Before I moved to New Mexico I was attending Upland High School in California. The dress code there was pretty lax, and even while this lax dress code was in effect, the school recieved no major problems as a result of the dress code. Therefore, I find no justification for the dress code at the high school. Now, don't misunderstand me, the dress code now in effect does help promote a cleaner and more comfortable learning environment, but it's to the expense of the students' individual expression. I think that the people who establish the dress code for RRHS don't take under consideration the wardrobe of the majority of students, which consists of number of textiles that violate code.
We've been very pleased with RRHS. The teachers are outstanding, the education is top-quality, especially the AP curriculum, and the extracurriculum activities are diverse. The students complain about the dress code, which has recently been relaxed, but as parents, we're glad to have some restrictions to what can't be worn to school. Overall, a top-notch school.
Rio Rancho High School is an excellent center to attend. I spent my entire high school career at Rio Rancho Mid-High and High School and I have nothing to complain about. Great choice.
As I begin my senior year at Rio Rancho I have found it to be nothing less than a pool of opportunities, full of diversity and enrichment. Contrary to what many reviews have said, I have found all of my teachers at RRHS to be outstanding. They all take an interest in the learning of each student, and with over 3,000 students enrolled in just grades 10-12 that is remarkable. Also, with such a large student body they are doing a great job with communication with parents. My own parents can contact my teachers during the school day, the same thing applies to my siblings who attend Rio Rancho Mid High and Rio Rancho Elementary. This type of communication needs effort, and lacks if a parents is not willing to put forth this effort. Would you like to contact 3,000 parents on a weekly basis and jeopardize your childs learning?
I've been going to this school since 2007 (I'm now a junior). All I can say is, you haven't been to high school if you haven't been to Rio Rancho High School. The school pushes the use of computers in many classrooms.
This High School Is one of the best in the state. It is far advanced than the other schools in the surrounding area. The school really pushes the use of technology and new teaching methods. With programs ranging from microbiology and epidemiology to music theory there are advanced and enriching classes for every interest. Definitly considering sending your child here. The level of academics and teachers is by far superior.
I was an exchange student in NM and i loved this school. a little bit strict. but it has a good environment to study!
We just transferred here from Colorado and I am very impressed with what the school offers to their students, however, I am not at all impressed on how they (the staff) treat new families that come to the area. With us coming from out of state, the curriculums are so different and nothing, and I mean nothing, was explained to my kids or myself. I am here 6 months and couldn't tell you anything that is happening. I get grades and behavior, but that is if I inquire. I don't know anything about the classes and what each class entails. With them offering so much, they should give you more info than what they do. Needless to say we are moving back to Colorado in a month. With all that said, I felt the staff to be rude.
My son attends RRHS as a sophomore. We moved to NM July 06 and looked at schools in APS & RRPS closely. We were very impressed with RRPS, especially the dress code. We are very happy with Rio Rancho HS and everything it has to offer. The only things that I wish were different are I feel that there should be better communication between the school & the parents. Most of the time we don't even hear about events unless we happen upon from other people/parents and secondly, I have noticed over the last 18 months that the dress code is becoming more & more relaxed. The number one reason we chose RRHS over other high rankng schools in APS was the strict dress code. It makes our school stand out above the rest and statistically it has been proven that children perform at a higher level when uniforms are required.
I am a sophomore at Rio Rancho school, and I can't say that I am not dissapointed. The education is lacking, and as an enriched student I can't find a class that challenges me like I need to be. My parents insist that I look for the good in the situation, but i have yet to find it.
There are many good and bad things about this school. I have read other reviews and agree with most of them, except for the fact that all of the students that go there only say the good things that go on. First of all, The school itself is fair. The dress code, although serving as an 'equalizer', is not exactly a 'thumbs up'. And the discipline is unreasonable. However, there are good things about the school, too. There are many extra-curricular activities, and the school offers Pre-AP and AP courses, in which a student can earn college credit. In conclusion, the school does offer many good 'extras'. However, the students themselves don't always choose to involve themselves in disciplinary activities.
My daughter went to this school from Freshman to Junior year. We moved to Rio Rancho from Albuquerque for her to attend the new school. We also, we sold on the fact that this school was the best in public school in NM. We purchased a home less than one mile away. While she did enjoy the extracurricular activities, she and us did not enjoy the freedom of expression that young people should have at that age. The dress code being one problem, and the freedom of speech being the other. My daughter finisher her Senior year at another Hogh School because of this problem. You should really think about other alternatives than RRHS.
The quality of the academic programs is really bad. The aviability of the sports is ok for some but for others who like doing rodeo and other things they are out of luck. Parent envolvement is good if only the school would actaully listen to what parents are telling them about their kids. To me it seems like the most important thing to them is their dress code. The teachers dont take the time to help the students.
As a current student at this school, i find there are many oppurinities given to students to excel. The academic programs are excellent, as a ninth grader they offer Pre-AP Geometry and Pre-AP English. There is Biology and Intergeted Science also. We had computer and tech labs. Our school has an award winning choir and marching band. And award winning athletics. In all it is an excellent Public School that encourages and engages students to do well.
I am very pleased with Rio Rancho High School. The program offerings are excellent. The teachers are always willing to help in whatever way possible. The administration is fabulous. We are so blessed to be able to attend such a great school!
