La Mariposa Montessori

The reviews on this site tell the whole story . . . . You can't educate with courage and conviction without ruffling some feathers. The principle and the educators at the school are not just impressive, but remarkable. They are actually preparing kids for the world they will encounter . . . not a second wave factory education. Hands on learning, field trips (often inspired by the students themselves) as well as quality play time are an integral part of the experience. I was sad to see reviews about racial bias and/or favoritism. We have experienced none of that (nor have I heard any such comments from others). What I will say is that the faculty and administration do not allow the class to be taken over by one or two kids with behavior problems who make it hard or impossible for the other students to learn and flourish. As a parent I appreciate that. I have long believed that people are generally happy with the private schools in which they have they're children. I must say that we continue to be surprised by the level of instruction, the interest our children show in the curricula and the commitment of the staff.Katrina (the principle) is, herself, a remarkable educator.

It's wonderful! I have read some comments about this school that are not accurate portrayals of this school. Why? because its amazing!!! my children enjoyed it so much! they loved the teachers, learned more than i can could of ever dreamed of, remembered all the information they where given!!! and best of all... they where in a place they loved!!! and even now that their out of la mariposa, the habits of working hard- and trying your best, are still their. They have fantastic grades are on the national honors society, and i couldn't be prouder of the kind and caring people they've become!!! thank you la mariposa montessori!!!

Any school community that discriminates between peoples of, color, race, age, religion, teacher, staff, parent or student should be considered & recognized for how they propagate hatred & bias. I found the direction of the school guilty of prejudice, authoritarian control & bias. This can NOT possibly NOT have ill effects on any child & their intrinsic innocence & good nature.

This is an excellent school. My children have attended from Kindergarten through sixth grade and go on to do extremely well in high school. La Mariposa has an exceptional math teacher in Katrina Holder, the founder. I loved the fact that Latin was taught. If your child is not self-motivated then a Montessori environment may not be the best thing. If they are, then there is nothing better.

La Mariposa is a fantastic school. 2 of our children attended, after switching from Rio Grande. Their math and reading skills skyrocketed at La Mariposa. The creative learning strategy employed is phenomenal. My children loved going to school and have gone on to 7th grade at SF Prep. Highest accolades for the teachers and administration.

I am the grandparent of a Mariposa Montessori student and I care deeply, of course, about his emotional health, his maturity level, and the quality of his education. This school has been perfect for him. Now in his third year at Mariposa, he is successful beyond my hopes and expectations (which are high).

Both my children have attended this school for the past 2 years. The attention, dedication, creativity and intelligence of all the teachers has done wonders for my girls. The community of students, parents and staff is very loving and open. I also love the environment, very beautiful indoors and out, esp. all the animals!

La Mariposa Montessori is a delightful little school, hidden away amongst the pinon trees of Santa Fe. It is immaculate, charming, and totally unique. The teachers are patient and kind.

La Mariposa seemed to lack financial aids, my children often felt wronlgy critisizced, The head master picked favorites, and made rash desicions.

My daughter has been going to La Mariposa for the last 6 years, since age 4 1/2. When school begins she will be entering the 5th grade. She was a bit apprehensive going into the 4th grade with Katrina (the owner) being her teacher but now she has told me that if Katrina is not going to be the Middle school teacher (when she reaches the 6th grade) then she does not want to go to school any more. So what does that tell you coming from an almost 11 year old.

This was the worst school I have ever taught at. It was a wonderful learning environment for children, but completely awful for teachers. I would not recommend working at this school, and as a parent, would question the teacher turn-over rate!

I couldn't imagine a better school for my children. La Mariposa Montessori school provides a caring and empowering learning environment for children from 3 years old through to 8th grade. With its program and facilities (including languages, music, arts, full academics, a mentoring program, an animal farm, track and field, camping trips and regular visits to senior centers), La Mariposa Montessori provides a complete and well-rounded education and growing experience for our children.

My child went to school here and LOVED it. I once saw a bumper sticker that said 'Children love Montessori' and I believe that it is very accurate. However, it isn't for everyone. Over a two year period at La Mariposa, my child's academic performance dropped from the 80th percentile to below the 30th percentile. After switching schools, she is once again learning (and still loves school). After adjusting, our child now loves the new school because 'They make learning so much easier. Thay actually explain things to me so I can understand it. I am very happy I switched schools.'

Quality of academic programs, and extra-curricular activities combined with the incredibly warm and nurturing atmosphere make this school outshine any other elementary school in Santa Fe. My children have flourished here.

I went to this school from first grade through 5th grade, and I loved it. It is a great school. Katrina Holder, the owner, is a kind, loving person, whith a great love of kids, and animals. the school is almost a little farm. there are llmas, alpacas, horses, and all othere kinds of animals in the fenced area on the other side of the great playground. I had a great education there, and sometimes go back to visit. your son or doughter will love this school, and they will recieve a great education, like I did. thanks Katrina!
