All 3 of my kids have attended this school, as well as my husband & I. My kids did great! They now attend the Rondout Valley High School & are continuing to do fantastic! They are in the sports program, as well as the music program - I have an 18 yr. old graduating this June, & twin 16 yr. olds graduating next year. All 3 are on the High Honor Roll, taking advanced placement classes & are members of the Honor Society. My youngest son is also a member of the Peer Mediation Team. All public schools have their good & bad points - the biggest suggestion I can make to anyone who feels Rondout isn't a great school, is - pay attention! Pay attention to your kids' test scores, do your part, don't expect the teachers to do it all!

I have two children in this school one in the 5th grade inclusion and one in the 8th grade 15-1 class. Both have done verry well in school. My 8th grader has had an excellent counseler for the past 4 years who has helped her in so many ways to bulid on her self confidence. We have had great teachers who are more then willing to help when there is a problem. Now the negatives, Special treatment is given to those students who have certain last names, parents who work or volenteer at the school. Staff in the office can take some lessons in being nice.

I have a child in the 7th grade and one who just moved on to the high school. Most of the teachers they had were very good, some were excellent and one was a bit lacking. Parental involvment has always been welcomed and I have found the communication between teachers & parents to be good. The music program, particularly the band program is great. The modified sports opportunities are also very good. My kids have been happy with the school and their grades and test scores have been very good.

My daughter went from a nurturing, encouraging elementary school (Marbletown) to this middle school that did everything possible to do the opposite! The middle school starts in 5th grade when the children are around 10 years old and still very young. The administration runs the school on a negative note rather than positive. Most of the office staff should remember when they were in school and make it a fun and educational place to be--it's possible! the scores the students are receiving are terrible and I do blame it on the way the school is run. The teacher's my daughter had were excellent this year (and last) and they communicated with me and kept my daughter on track, she did well and she loved her 6th and 7th grade. She's looking forward to more wonderful teachers who will encourage her future. Thank you.

Have a daughter in this school, she likes it overall. Principal and Guidance Counselor are great people. food is terrible, they should handle cliquey situations more, should not be allowed, teachers need to discipline students more, favoritism is given to students whose parents volunteer in school often.

Rodout School isn't all that great of a school as it is made ou to be. As being a student there I know what it is like. The money the school has should be used to buy new books that have pages torn and covers ripped off. Some of the classes dont even have enough books so they have to borrow books from other teachers. I mean they should have enough books for each student to use. Next comes the food. It is litterally .... I can't even think of a word to explain it. The hotdogs and hamburgers bounce. And the macironi and cheese tastes like rubber. They should put money toward the students food and supplies, instead of using the money to make the school look better. Wahts more important? The students or the school being fixed up to make the board look better?

Children are not getting the extra help they need. I am extremely disappointed in this school district due to the lack of communication with the teachers. We are looking to move out of this school district due to lack of good organization. It is a very clicky school where there is a lot of attention focused on the children that have parents that either donate money to the school or work for the district.
