this school has met and exceeded every expectation we could possibly have. the teachers and principal and really everyone at the school are very compassionate and passionate about providing a quality, values oriented catholic educational experience for our son. every surprise at this school has been a pleasant one. the kids and parents are all nice. the student body is diverse. the standards are high. the expectations are high. i have never heard of any bullying, or anything negative whatsoever. in a turbulent world this school is like a nice quiet oasis of calm and harmony. ( although it's bursting with activity) i would recommend mater christi to anyone without any caveats or reservations what so ever. we are grateful for what these ladies ( all female teachers) have done for our son. our son loves this school so much. considering the quality of education here, i'm surprised there's not a line around the block of kids hoping to get in. from conversations among parents, my views represent the consensus among parents.
to single one person out would almost be insulting to the rest of the staff here. i don't think there is any missing link. they're all very very good, and they are all experienced. most are mothers and married and all are quite nurturing. there's just nothing missing in this school. even the parents are quite involved.
i said just right only because i think teachers have to assign homework or else parents will feel that the standards are not high enough. sometimes our son is working late on homework, but he is a perfectionist. he certainly can handle it. it reduces his TV and electronic toy time.
This school is horrible... the computers aren't in good condition (mostly broken) and the teachers are rude. They pile a lot of work at once, and expect you to do it in 1 week. It truly isn't a middle school, because you only have 1 class... and the classes are very small. Also, you don't even have lockers, you have 2 cubbies, 1 in the classroom and one in the hallway (Very small though). You can't even decorate them like a locker.
Most kids that go here are rude, and very cliquey. The teachers don't help with the drama that goes on and don't try to stop it.
With academics, you have to take the NYS Tests... even though you don't get graded on them. It's horrible. You also have a bunch of finals in 6, 7 and 8th grade plus the NYS Testing if you're in Regents.
For field trips, you have to ride in parents and teacher's cars for field trips, no bus.
They have NO extracurricular activities for the older kids but CYO basketball. They should add more sports and clubs like Art Club, and softball.
