This school system has major issues with people that were not born here. The administration at all levels is slow to react to anything. In trying to schedule a meeting with one of the teachers, "outside of their 7 to 3 work day was an absolute nightmare. This school district is dripping with that small town good 'ol boy network mentality
My child has mild autism and hasn't received as good as I would have expected. Allegany is a nice community. The taxes are high. The school reflects the nice community and the high taxes tho. It is a very good school and yes outsiders are frowned upon until they finally fit in(if ever). The only problem is with the special education. It is about average I would guess, but that is disappointing when you have a learning disabled child.
The ALCS schools are clearly near the best in this very rural section of the state. I have lived in many areas of the country and NYS and I take serious issue with the allegation that this school has inner-city, public school like problems with drugs and alcohol. There is a great sense of community in Allegany that extends to the school though it can be very difficult to break through the 'outsider' feeling which is somewhat typical of a small town. This school may not be without it's issues but I'd recommend it to anyone as a great place to raise and educate a family.
Allegany Limestone Middle School is a small, rural school. I have not been happy with it at all since my son has attended. If you have a child with disabilities, then this is not the school for them. I had to fight for over a year just to have him evaluated. Although it is a rural school, there are a lot of the problems you would normally find in inner city public schools with drugs and alchol.
