PS 84 is by far one of the best schools in queens. The teachers are great, the administrators are great, the students are great. Mr. Buffa, the principal has an open door policy and handles every situation with ease. He's a real pro. Mr. Armano, the Assistant Principal used to teach at the school so he has a good understanding of the entire school community. He even dressed up as Santa during the PTA's Winter Wonderland, definitely a great addition to the administrative team. The teachers are absolutely wonderful they really get involved with the children. When I walk into the school I feel as thought I'm home. The people are PS 84 are family!! I'm so lucky that my children get to go to PS 84.

I have seen my child thrive at PS 84 over the past year. She has received instruction that surpassed my expectations, challenges her, and helps her fine tune in her areas of interest. Her teacher has been a wonderful advocate and is a true partner-- making sure to communicate her strengths and weaknesses, struggles and social needs clearly. There is room for improvement to make the school more rigorous and ambitious overall, but I have found a great community of engaged and caring parents and educators here. I also really appreciate the school owning up to its name and nurturing community leadership and have found the exchanges between older and newer students to be wonderful. Keep up the good work!

THis is a wonderful school with wonderful staff and a great administration team. Everyone works together for a good cause and that is to benefit the children. I wish all schools were like PS84 Steinway.

As far as academic score, the result of 2012 state exame shows every student's and eacher's' effort. this school has many great teachers but they are not appreciated enough. my daugther's class room teacher is very warm and has great passion about education. she loves going to this school.

THIS SCHOOL NEEDS REPLENISHMENT. TEACHERS AS OLD AS DINOSAURS, WITH NO PATIENT LEFT IN THEM ARE TEACHING OUR SWEET CHILDREN. THE PRINCIPAL DOESN/T DO ANYTHING TO HELP OR SUPPORT THE PARENTS IN ANY WAY. I DISCHARGED MY SON B/C HE WAS GETTING PSYCHOLOGICALLY ABUSED BY THE TEACHER. MIND YOU MY SON IS ONLY 4!!! THEY HAVE COLD, RUDE AND IGNORANT TEACHERS TEACHING THE FIRST TIME STUDENTS. NOT RIGHT.

i dont like this school because the rules are for kindergardeners. The principal does not act like a principal, the assistant prinipal acts more like a principal.But he is still unfair.

The school, I would say, is decent when it comes to English, Social Studies, and Math (the most vital subjects) but the rest of the subjects could use some work with the teachers. The AP is not helping us (the students) and he punishes us for irrelevant reasons. The guidance counselor is not very helpful either. Personally, I only like about 2-3 teachers. Despite that, parent involvement is big in this school. The school is PreK -8, so the teachers treat the middle schoolers kinda babyish.

Good Schoo, Love the guidance councelor. The assistant principal is by far the worst i have ever seen, he is highly sarcastic and punishes students for unfair reasons. The principal should start acting like a principal instead of an assistant principal. The assistant principal is unfair and treats the staff and students horribly, the school would be better without him.

PS 84 has the potential to be a great school. I feel the administration is very warm and committed to the school. I feel they are open to parents and are trying to be innovative. I wish more families in the community would send their children so that the school could have stronger advocates. It seems like families with more resources who are zoned to 84 opt to send their children elsewhere.

PS/MS is like going to a private school. Approximately 400 students in a Pre K to 8 setting. All resources support individual attention to all types of children. Administration and staff are experienced and attentive to students' needs.

Ps 84 is a wonderful, excellent school. I like miss giampiccolo very much. The prek program is excellent and i am happy they are extending the grades to 8th grade. I have only positive things to say about this school.

This school focuses too much on academics and scores so the school can benefit financially - perhaps children would enjoy their lengthy days if they had some extra curricular programs outside of the basic learning requirements. i believe if you change an elementary school to a middle school there should be pre-planning as now you are facing all different age groups with different interest and the older childrent need additional activities and do the younger ones. No after school program, no sports, no dance, theatre etc. I feel eventually the younger children will not want to stay in the school throughout their growing years if they don't start to make it a bit interesting.

My child has been going to this school, for the past 2 years. I didnt like what i was hearing from my son, he was telling me that most of the students there act like 'gangsters' and they have no intrest in their school work. I blelieved my son, for example when i was picking him up from school i heard most of the students cursing and talking inpropertly. My son convinced me to enroll him in another school It was the best thing i ever did. But i like the princible mr. Buffa. But i beleive the vice princible is not the kind of role model we should be setting for our children. But in all i blelieve that P.S. 84 deserves a 2 rating.

used to be an excellent school about 9 years ago, now I can't believe that it became a junior high! I took my children out not only because the administration has worsened but also because i dont believe my 6 year old should be in the same school with junior high students.

An overall category score is calculated for each respondent group (parents, teachers, or students) by averaging the scores of the questions within that survey category.

Category scores for each of the respondent groups are then combined to form overall category scores. Alongside the results for each school are the aggregated results across all NYC public schools, which are provided as a basis for comparisons.
