This is my daughter's secound year in Meadow and we continue to be disappointed. We keep hearing on the news that our children are behind the rest of the children in other industrialized countries but still we believe that our children will not perform if they are pushed. Homework should not take 10-15 minutes per night our children can perform on the same caliber as the rest of the world stop holding them back.........
Meadow is a great school. It includes dirvesty and activies to join including saftey patrol, reading buddies, instremal group and choral gourps.
Meadow has some fine teachers. It is however overcrowded. It would be a superior school if it could stop busing in students. It would be helpful to add another lunch priod to ease over crowding especially on bad weather days
the teachers are great espacaly Mrs.Heuer
I recently moved to Baldwin Harbor, NY from Freeport. I was told great things about Meadow school and this was one of the reasons why I made the decision to relocate. Unfortunately, I have had nothing but disappointment since my child has started attending Meadow school. My child's homework takes ten minutes to do and I am appalled by this. I can't believe that the school has been allowed to function like this for so long. Something needs to be done!
This school has a very good program and has recently retained young teacher who are energetic and committed to the children
Meadow Elementary School is a public school located in Baldwin Harbor, NY. They service grades k-5. Meadow provides a solid academic program to the students and offers an advanced learning curriculum to students who have demonstrated a higher aptitude for learning through their PAG program. This service is provided to children in grades 3 through 5. The music department is exceptional. Children are able to begin playing the violin in third grade, with a choice of other instruments to follow in grades four & five. Meadow has a very strong Parents Teachers Association with considerable involvement from both parents and faculty. One of the areas to watch is the classroom size. It may vary from 21-25 pupils in a class.
The meadow school has a very diverse population. It is a great melting pot and my children have had a good experience so far.
This school has no hot lunches. Our taxes have gone up so much that you would expect to at least have a choice of purchasing hot lunch for your kids. I agree with the other comments about the PTA. There needs to be an overhaul.
The teachers are wonderful and I never had a problem with the principal. However, the same old faces run the PTA year after year and unless you are part of the clique, you are considered an outsider. It is not the least bit welcoming. I don't like the idea that there is no one at the door to the 'main entrance' screening visitors. After you announce your reason for visiting the school, anyone can be buzzed in. In today's world this is not acceptable. My family and I have recently relocated and I am very glad that we did.
