Profile Completeness

INTERMEDIATE

Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

Graduated from BSHS and went off to Seton Hall University, I loved the school for the diversity as well as the sports programs. The Ap & Ib learning system prepare students for college success, I graduated with kids who went to Harvard, Cornell, Brown and Yale... This is something many kids I tell at Seton Hall are astonished by. Very happy that I was able to attend BSHS.

One daughter is a graduate attending Villanova University and the second will graduate this year--having been accepted so far to some great colleges. The BS girl's athletics program is top notch--a top track and cross country team for 28 years, a softball team with more State championships than any other and County finalists in lax and field hockey almost every year. My daughters' development into well rounded young women has been the hallmark of their BS educations. IB courses, ethnic pen conferences, peer support, etc. Don't think that diversity is something to avoid. Some of Suffolk's wealthiest and most prominent families send their kids to BS. But they never look down on anyone. The kids get along beautifully. The Code of conduct is very strict--the kids who get into trouble wind up in the local private high schools. And I can't say enough good things about Mr Pashkin who always goes beyond the call and knows every kid by name.

My daughter is a senior at Bayshore High School. I like the fact that they really care about your child and you know every move your son or daugther makes. You can even go on-line and check their attendace

It has a diverse ( ethnically, racially, economically, religiously) student body ( this is rare in this country) , amazing teachers, an nationally recognized writers workshop ( Ethnic Pen) and a student paper and literary magazine that is national recognized every year!

the wonderful faculty at bay shore high school is the only reason i graduted from high school at all. i had been through two other high schools and would have dropped out if it hadn't been for BSHS. besides that, it is one of the only really diverse high schools on Long Island, with some of the best class choises.

Absolutely a top of the line school. The teachers, for the most part, are engaging and friendly, and seem to truly invest themselves in the successes of their students. The level of school spirit seems to vary from year to year, and mostly depends on the class, although there are years when the entire school can be swept up in school/class spirit.

Excellent new principal this year. He is working hard on parent engagement and increased student success. Introducing IB next year and the district has increased the guidance department so that freshman & their parents have a face to face planning session for the HS years ahead!

Bay Shore Schools allow students to witness what they will encounter in the world; different races, social classes and numerous other ethnic and societal differences. This is something that will come in handy in the future that, unfortuantley many Long Island schools do not offer because they do not have the vast population that Bay Shore has. Bay Shore students have less of a transition when entering college because they have already adapted the differences which they will encounter in higher education.

I am currently attending this school. As a freshmen I was expecting this school to be very different and it is. The teachers are great and they help any student who needs extra guidance. There are many after school activities to keep kids off the streets and everyone is involved. The curriculum is superb. There is very heavy security as well to ensure the safety of the students and faculty. This school is the best and I recommend attending this school as soon as possibleif you're considering moving to ny!

I graduated from BSHS several years ago. I found the teachers very supportive and caring, but the principal at the time was awful. Nobody respected him. The extracurricular activities were very good - the drama program was great. However, I didn't feel prepared for college. I coasted through classes doing little to no work, and when I got to college, I nearly drowned. If teachers don't hold students to a high standard of productivity, they won't be prepared for the real world.

The quality of bay shore h.s. academic programs is nothing less than exemplary...the first year my kids were enrolled (2001) Hilary Clinton came to the school to give them an award for increasing the SAT scores of the students by such an amazing amount in only 3 years...also the school has good discipline and keeps track of where your child is supposed during the day...only seniors are allowed to leave the campus during lunch time and they also involve the neighbors in the community by networking with retirees and others who are home during the day to report when they see younger ones in the streets instead of at school. they keep parents informed. good music and art program as well as a good track and field with a quarter-mile track as one of the features of the high school. an additional bldg being built on campus.

I am a graduate of Bay Shore High School, and it was the best four years of my life so far. The oppurtunities and experiences offered to students there are unlike any other high school, and has made me extremely well rounded. In addition, the dedicated and caring community that makes up Bay Shore High School makes it a wonderful learning environment. Lastly, I would like to say that although outsiders talk of the diversity at Bay Shore as a bad thing, I would not have had it any other way. Thanks to my four years at Bay Shore, I am ready for the real world, and have many wonderful memories to take with me.

I think that this school is good. There are so many programs and they are all usually ran very well. The sports teams have good coaches. The teachers vary like any other school. THe majority of teachers I had in Bay Shore High School helped a lot and made learning enjoyable. Again, like any other school, if you fall into the wrong crowd you can make your high school years useless (w/ drugs and alcohol.)
