I am very happy with the experience that my daughter is having so far @ PS 169. She is blossoming! The staff has been knowledgable, caring and responsive!

My children has been attending this school for the past five years and I can only say good things about the school. Yes, some of the young teachers are not as good as some other experienced ones but overall everyone works hard to prepare the children for higher grades. School library is great, they participate in the ballroom dance and encourage everyone to participate, the computer teacher Mr. Gursky is loved by all the students and running a great EPI, Robotics club. There has been a lot of improvements since Ms. Rosa took over so I am surprised read that negative comment. It must be personal. The only complaint which comes directly from my children is the quality of lunch, especially on Fridays where there is pizza and they claim that the lunch aids are often rude to the children. The school is safe, clean and has a lot of opportunities for everyone so I would recommend anyone who would want to move to the area.

I am so upset with majority of these reviews! My children attended this school for two years prior to relocation out of state this past summer. This is an amazing school with great leadership. I bet you all the "unhappy" parents are NEVER involve in anything the school does!!! They don't attend the PTA meeting or participate in any of the school activities. I was a very involve parent and know for a fact there NO way any involve parent would post some of theses RIDICULOUS comments. I am a single mother who works full time and still made my children s education a priority and that does not mean leaving everything to the administration. We are now located in a very affluent Connecticut neighborhood where they are just now getting Smart Boards in their school...PS. 169 has had it for years. I miss this school even more now that I have something to compare it to. This school is that of a Private school! Get involve! Get to know your Administration! Get to know your child's teacher! and you will quickly see ALL the HARD work that goes into making a school work!.

Wow... I attended this school 30 years ago, and now living in Manhattan, I'm looking to move back to Queens, and--in particular--as close as possible to PS 169, thinking that it'd be great for my daughter. I'm so surprised by these reviews, it's saddening, too. It's amazing, but I'm thinking I may move instead to Queens Village or something like that. So much for the mighty districts 25/26... I'd rather be near a quality school. I sincerely appreciate the feedback of the parents who commented here. Thank you.

If you want your child to receive a cosmopolitan education within the suburbs P.S.169 is the school for you. It offers many enrichment clusters that culminate into trips to the best cultural institutions New York City has to offer. The Ballroom dancing program is done throughout the city but P.S.169 s 4th and 5th grade classes really turn it into a coming of age ceremony when they put on a dance show that would cause even the most skeptical parent to beam with pride. The Principal of P.S.169, takes a personal interest in each student and you may have to wait 5 minutes but her door is always open to discuss your child s issues. She handles situations in a thoughtful, judicious and goal oriented manner. She has a particular knack as a problem solver and for understanding the needs of each age group from pre-k to the 5th. She runs a tight ship but it sails smooth and you will feel that your kids are cared for both academically and emotionally. One can really see why Ms. Kunin was awarded a Cahn fellowship several years ago. She articulates the schools plans and programs in a way that engages parents during her monthly Q & A sessions. The school is orderly and safe. The art and music programs always integrate the science curriculum in a model fashion. The show the 4th grade did on ecosystems was exemplary, deserved accolades and could only be rivaled by the 1st grades weather show. There is a parent book club. The Parent Coordinator is approachable and offers tons of info that parents need to help them navigate the busy school year filled with test prep , spring flings and a carnival ( all thanks to a tireless P.T.A.). There is a basketball team for 4th and 5th grade as well as a cheerleading squad. The atmosphere at P.S.169 feels like a small community and the school teaches my children how to be good citizens within a community. P.S. 169 fosters an attitude of responsibility and respect for fellow students. Classmates really are taught to work in Teams. In a city where the cost of a private school education can run high I feel very fortunate to have found a gem in the suburbs.

I am a parent of 2 children who attended this school last year and I can say that the teachers range from moderate to exceptional and I was glad to see that one of them at least was able to be paired with an exceptional teacher. On the other hand the school is not prepared to work with any child that shows any signs of special needs even if the signs are very manageable, so your child must be completely independent to survive in this school. It is clear that the Principal is rarely involved in any of the supervision with the teachers and is completely unapproachable. Her open door policy only works if she has not placed judgement on you or your ability as a parent.
