Both my children attended the Bloomfield School District. The focus of the administration is on the gifted students not the average or special needs students. Parents need to advocate regularly to be sure their child receives a basic eduacation. The teachers also did not get the proper support from the adminstration preventing them from providing the students with an adequate education.
Bloomfield is an adequate school for a rural area. There is a lack of AP and other rigorous classes and serious, college bound children are in a minority. There are a few basic extra curricular activities in which the coaches and parents seem dedicated. Yet again, the opportunities are limited to the standard fare (missing basics like field hockey, however). Teacher quality is average. There does not appear to be much emphasis on serious academics - but there are lots of dances.
I went to Bloomfield Schools, as did my two sisters and brother. After completing a minimum of four years of college each, we are all now meaninfully employed and earning good livings. Our education in Bloomfield more than adequately prepared us with the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed!
My Daughters went to Bloomfield Central School and Graduated from there. This School has great values for the children and I am sure glad they went there. The teachers were awesome. Everyone usually has a few in any school that are not to high on the list but Bloomfield seemed to be able to sort them type of teachers out and work with it. The Transportation Dept. was one of the best as far as I am concerned. Special Ed programs were in place and very good. If your thinking of this school I wouldnt hesitate. The only thing I can say in looking back is that every parent should check and be sure that the classes are the right ones a child needs for college. Check with other councelers too.
