While SLC is a good school, I definitely would not stretch so far as to call it very good, and certainly not great. The teachers do a wonderful job teaching the classes the school and state mandates, but the problem lies in the classes themselves. While many resources and special classes exist for struggling students and those with special needs, high achieving students are ignored. There are few higher level courses available to challenge and further educate these students and a pathetic amount of college-level courses. SLC has the ability and talent to compete with larger school districts, but to do so they begin offering a broader, more challenging curriculum for their top-tier students.
SLC is a great school, end of story! The teachers there are accommodating to students, whether it s a child with special needs, or just needs help getting their gears turning. So many teacher there are there purely for the students, as I student there I never felt as if a teacher was there for any other reason besides their love of passing along there knowledge. Yes, SLC is a small school (give me five minuets or so and I can probably rattle off all 57 of my 2006 classmates) however the school does offer college level classes, through the digital media room linked to other small schools. Most importantly being at a small school does offer some advantages, I know personally that if I was in a bigger school, I wouldn t have been the editor of the yearbook both my junior or senior year if at all for that matter.
I went to this school myself as a student. My son graduated in 2006 and my daughter is going into her junior year. Our daughter was diagnosed with asperger's syndrome two years ago and the school worked with us closely to see what we could do to make school a more positive, protective and productive experience for her.The teachers have gone out of their way to help us out with phone calls, updates and meetings to check her progress. It is a great community and the teachers are our neighbors.
i was a student and wouldnt have gone to another school for the fact that this school treated me excellent and the teachers are even better. The administration has been vastly improved, even before i graduated. Mrs. Roy and MR. Rose bring a sense of discipline that was long forgotten. The AD in has brought back school spirit that was also long gone. And finally the sports teams are starting to get competitive again, just lool at last years Section X champs in softball, and the lacrosse team making it to the Section X championship game.
