my son is starting 3rd grade in 1st he had a great teacher but when he started 2nd the teacher wouldn't work with me at all on making sure he got his home work done. overall this school isn't helping the kids do their best. Can't wait till i can move to a better school district. If your child is going into 2nd and you get Mrs. Igneri I strongly recommend transferring to a different teacher.
This is a school I attended as a child and is now attended by my own child. I am happy to say that things have not changed much. Like all schools there is good and bad but the good greatly outweighs the bad. The teachers from my experience really care about the children and have great communication with the parents. There are extracurricular programs including music and test preperation classes. When there is a concert or evening event you can barely find a parking spot because the parental support is so great. Like any other school your child greatly benefits from the level of your participation in his/her schooling.
North Elementary is one of those schools that is trying to turn itself around. The principals and assist. principal make considerable effort to know each child and parent. They have been trying to introduce more programs throughout the year. However, there isn't a strong enough PTA presence. There needs to be more strategy to get the parents involved. I know they implemented a phone survey in the district to try and accomodate working parents. It is important to mention that in brentwood school district as a whole, there is so much turnover and still a number of people renting their homes that there aren't enough people to vote for our school budget. It makes a difference , especially with the size of Brentwood--it is huge in comparison to some other school districts that spend more money.
