Garden Street is an awesome school! We've got great teachers, a super support staff and a real 'homey' feeling! I love this school and am so sad that it only goes to 3rd grade-my daughter is in third grade and I am really going to miss GSS next year.
I have 2 daughters adopted from Russia that have different needs. One adopted at 16 months had plenty of time at a younger age to catch up and scored in the top 1% on the national Terranova tests. The second, adopted at 4 1/2 years old had more challanges. The school handled it wonderfully and she received the additional help she needed. Great blend of teachers and activities at the school also. My daughter is really excited about tomorrow's Halloween party at school. I like the great communication from the teachers.
I am a former student of this school. This is a wonderful school. I adored it. The staff is friendly, the lunch is good, and the education that was provided was excellent!
My concern with this school is the inconsistency and lack of direction from one classroom to another (within the same grade). I am extremly disappointed in the Third grade teachers this year as they did not allow the children to have a Halloween party, something the children always looked forward to, and to top it off this is their last year as Garden Street only goes up to Third Grade. If I had another child I truly cannot say that I would send them to this school.
Garden Street sits up atop a hill over looking the village of Brewster. From the moment you approach it, you feel a welcoming precense. The staff are friendly and willing to work with you. The school is not overwhelming and small enough so that my child was known in the office and among special area teachers. I was allowed to come in to help in the classroom and felt welcome and comfortable. I feel like my child recieved a strong loving education at this school. The school has a variety of ethnicities which also allowed my child to learn more about other cultures and to feel comfortable with them.
I have had kids in the schools for 3 years, and I am very happy. The more I get involved, the more I like. The teachers are wonderful and caring, and the children respond to this. There are a few teachers who need to be more receptive to students needs, but they are by far the exception, not the rule. The administration is constantly trying to improve the school, and it shows.
The teachers are loving and caring at Garden Street School. My concern is inconsistency in instruction from one classroom to another. I think there is a lack of leadership, and direction.
