You are either "in" or "out" at this place, that includes students, staff and faculty. If you are out, you are screwed. I graduated from this place and my family has lived in Brockport for over 100 years, I was not treated fairly, was singled out by some teachers and was not protected from bullying no matter how many times I complained, until they found out what my last name was. There are still some GREAT teachers there, but are few and far between now and MORE layoffs are coming? They can build a useless roundabout that helped close BIG M (many jobs were lost as was the ability to shop for many on foot too) but they can't keep the teachers? I was on the ineligible list FOREVER in high school then all of a sudden I got to college and never had less than a 3.5. Obviously I got a sub-par education. Don't move to BCS just to send your kids there, the town has gone downhill in the last 10 years; too many mini malls, too many under-educated residents and too many housing developments. Sad.
I was shocked at the response from the special education department. I called with concerns that my son might need some testing for academic trouble. I was told that I was "stealing services from other students who really need it." My son got the testing he needed but not though brockport school district.
As a taxpayer and parent, I would like to know what happened to Dr. Levandowski. Is he on paid leave and will he be returning? In our research, we have been told that the staff was instructed not to talk about this situation to anyone. What is the big secret?
I am a 2008 graduate from Brockport High School and I want to express my extreme hatred I have gained from this school. The first two years I was here was fine, but my junior and senior years the security got progressively worse. There weren't really any problems to begin with, but they decided one day to just turn this school into a prison. It is impossible to walk two feet without being questioned. The counselors are terrible as well, I expressed interest in applying to multiple colleges, and was a good student, in the top 15% of my class, but my counselor just shot my dreams down instead of encouraging me. Also, the school is extremely cheap, so cheap that in the winter the temperature is 68 degrees, although a lot lower in most spots.
its okay to be a student here but i am a freshman the school seems just average. I personally don't think that my teachers care about me on a personal level at all. i have only been in the school for a month and i hope it gets better. i really really do.
I am a parent that is shocked at how Brockport HS has allowed the administrators to treat parents and the children with such disrespect. They do not return 1``phone call and have lost my child in the sea of children that attend this school. With out the help of a couple of the staff I think they would of forgotten my child even attended this school.
this school is great! the teachers are amazing and work really well with students, and give help when ever necessicary and to the best of their abilities.
Inappropriate teacher-student relationships. Students can earn grades by crying and begging instead of studying and learning. Overall science department is below average in ability. School encourages students to perform at an average level as opposed to their personal best. Principal has no understanding of teens or compassion to work with them. NHS and the Music programs are a few of the decent ones left. Dr. Ekeze should be principal and rest of administration should be let go.
I graduated from Brockport High and wanted the same quality education for my children. I moved here just for the education. I am so sorry I did. College applications and transcripts were not sent to universities in timely matters. Some were late, even though the conselors had them for a month or longer. Science teachers should be in comedy clubs. Extremely funny, but don't cover the curriculum. High failure rate in Chemistry! Lacking text books for math courses! Absurd! Attendance rate of some guidance counselors fall below 90%. They can't help kids if they aren't there! Parents must advocate for their kids. The district has turned us into hovering parents. Instead of letting the kids grow and be independent, we must monitor the school to make sure they are doing the right thing. As for Special Ed kids, too much is relied on BOCES. Next time I'll recommend private
Brockport is a great school system if your student is an average or above average student. If your child has any special needs, be prepared to do all of the work yourself with very little support from those who you need it from the most.
