Bronx Community Charter school is one of those schools you wished you went to when you were a child. They provide the most well rounded education one can ask for. Bx. Comm. combines structure classroom work along with hands on experience for students. Students go on numerous field trips and conduct in room projects and students are required to present their findings to parents and staff at a number of school activities. As a parent of a graduate, I can say she and all the other students are prepared not only for middle school but also learned life long people skills that will carry them through their life. Students at Bx. Comm. can speak publicly and state their position on any topic without fear.

I love Bronx Community Charter School! The staff is very accessible and receptive to parent input. Every classroom has two teachers which allows them to individualize instruction more effectively. I am a teacher in the Bronx and I have seen first hand how bad schools in this community can be. This school really is not only committed to academic excellence but to creating a nurturing community for teachers, parents and students. It is a very special place.

Beginning in the 2012-2013 school year, the New York State Department of Instruction implemented new assessments designed to be aligned with the Common Core State Standards. The new standards for proficiency in these subjects are higher than in previous years and the percent of students earning a proficient score is expected to be lower as a result of this change. See this letter from New York's Commissioner of Education for more information on these changes.

In 2012-2013 New York used the New York State Assessments to test students in grades 3 through 8 in English language arts and math, and in grades 4 and 8 in Science. The tests are standards-based, which means they measure how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of New York. The goal is for 90% of students to meet or exceed grade-level standards on the tests.
