P.S. Middle School 29 Melrose School

No stars... Who is security tompson? She so inappropiate with students and parents. Why doesnt anyone say anything? Oh yes P.S. 29 plays favortism.... What happened to the P.A.?

I agree no stars for this school...so much going on they don't know where to start. Here' s a clue...work on trying to make the parents feel welcome, the principle wants the parents to get involved but then when you get to the school you have to deal with people being rude. That school safety in there is too much. My lord her mouth is too much. And the way she speaks to parents that does not understand English is so sad. But I must say the ladies that work in the office are nice and helpful. I will love to get involved with the school but the what I see going on is too much for me. I pray to god that the school improves.

The changes that are being made in this school need more attention...I am dissatisfied completely on these so-called better changes...I understand the reasons but they need extreme thought before presenting them to the students and parents. And after presenting them to us and our children listen carefully to our concerns regarding your changes Then enforce them!

My kids have been in this school for quite a few years now and have had their share of problems with the bullying and teachers and staff not doing anything to prevent it. However, over the last couple of years this school has improved a great deal! The best thing that has happened to this school is the new principal. This lady is tough, caring and is keeping everyone on their toes. I have also come across a larger number of teachers who are loving, respectful and you can tell they really care about the students. I have seen major improvements in the amount of activities and guidance they provide to students and I am quite pleased that all this positive change has come while my kids are still students at this school.

My son has been in this school since pre k he had some problems in the pass with his old principal not getting to understand he had speech and learning disability, he has gotten left back in the 1st grade, thanks to the new principal the teachers and staff got together as a team and are helping my son and i. Thanks to the teachers, staff and the new principal my son is doing so much better now. Keep up the good work! (jenny)

Here's a brief update to my original posting from Oct. 2007... Finally P.S. 29 has ushered out its old principal who has decided to retire (thank the Lord!). They have transitioned in a new, warm, young and friendly principal. She really seems sincere and shows plenty interest towards parents and students concerns about implementing a much needed improvement to this school overall. Saftey issues with the bullies and gangs disrupting students at this school have become minimal where I now feel confident with having my daughter attend on a daily basis. Her academic progess in mathematics, language arts, music and the arts have improved tremedously! Hopefully she can attend the middle school located at Melrose/P.S. 29 this fall - only if the principal continues to keep up the good work! To be continued......

I am not too happy with this school. Because I am disabled and the school is the closest to my home I have no choice but to have my children attend here. Kids bully smaller children too frequently. Some teachers disrespect. I had to go in to complain about these issues a few times and seems like no one is really interested or concerned with anything I had to say. With the exception of a few teachers and the guidance counselor...everyone else just seemed to think our concerns were bogus.

Currently the school has low access to after school services, they have a middle school that is building slowly the wrap-round services it needs to compete with other middle schools. Parental involvement is low but not due to the lack of monthly meetings. But their annual Family Institute of Learning is growing nicely. Next year will be the defining year for the school since all grades will be in place. Parents need to join Learning Leaders and visit more with their child/children teachers to help give that support to the school rules. They have nice uniform colors Prek-5 wear blue/yellow, while the middle-school wears tan/white. The school staff all work together to ensure that children are learning , growing for their right subjects and grades.
