I love this school , it's like my second home . I've learned some many things during my experience in Saint Lucys School . In this school the teachers are nice but some teachers have favoritism toward the students. Besides that , the principle is a very sweet lady and the nurse is kind and generous . The academics are okay but we are bit behind because of the amount of students in the classroom .
I don't know what this place is like now but when I was a student there it was terrible. The teachers were all a bunch of old tenured Italian women who were completely devoid of knowledge, enthusiasm and creativity. One of my teachers would spend the entire day humiliating us while she snacked on her bread sticks and flipped through her Victoria's Secret catalogs. As a graduate student of education, I look back in sheer horror. The absolute worst educational experiences of my life.
If you want to invest on your child education, this SLS is not the place. If you want your child to rec individual attention, SLS is not the place. If you want a small class size this school is not it. My son was in a 7th grade with 34 students in the class. The 7th grade is key in preparing for the High School entrance exam. The tuition is not worth the service provided. There is only 2 true teachers at sls who take their profession seriously. So sad.
I have 2 children since nursery ,they do very well. as a parent you can drop off your child at 7am with no worries.for all you parents that complain about the school asking for money all the time! dah ! its a catholic school ,there always asking for money.as for going to public school...go right ahead.I have peace of mine that my kids are safe in school and theres no fights after school.Who complains are the parents that have problem kid/kids or cant pay there tuition!
I want to say wear is the negativity coming from? I have three children and they all attend SLS. I have had my children there since nursey and that was a great place to start Mrs. Diaz and her staff are the best. I knew that when I left my child there they were safe and happy and learned more than I thought possible. Mrs. Stefannini is a wonderful giving person, she is there for every event. Her leadership is first class. You will never like everything about a school but you get the best by far from SLS addministration and teachers. I would recommend SLS to everyone. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK
This school is a mess. The teacher are not strict, they just don't teach. You come to the open house, and they tell you to get ready for education and homework, but its all a lie. Students are in shock when they enter high school and see what it is like to work. I would never send any child to S.L.S. The church is still good but not the academics. I promise.
My child attended St. Lucy's for many years and except for a few, and I mean a few good teachers, the others are mediocre. There is no writing across the curriculum program which is why our kids do not write well. Then you send your child to high school and they flounder because they can't write! This school needs an academic overhaul because its not getting our kids up to potential. St. Lucy's is run by cliques in administration and among the teaching staff. We need outsiders to come in and change the internal workings of this school. Years ago, we had such terrific teachers, now we have only a few. The rest of them simply cannot teach. The loss of so many wonderful programs Dr. Muterarelli put in place is a sad commentary on a school which is in a downward spiral. It lacks integrity, professionalism and there's too much inbreeding!
What a waste of money. I had my child their last year. The teachers clearly demonstrated favortism towards students. The lessons and assignments were poorly planed. They did not offer any extra support, if your child can keep up Hooray, if your child missed one single concept oh well. They must keep up with their daily 'unmotivating' lessons. The principal appeared nice but it was crystal clear that teacher expectations were extremely poor. How does that reflect on student achievemnt?????
I'm a new parent and St. Lucy's was the best choice I have ever made for my children. The teachers are qualified, friendly, intelligent, and teach my children more than what they learned in other schools. The principal is wonderful and always has time for the parents, as do the teachers. I can't believe the terrible things some people have to say about this school! It breaks my heart because I know that SLS is wonderful and some people are just never satisfied. To those parents, I say HOMESCHOOL your children and see how hard it is to teach and run a school. To SLS - THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart for bringing education and values to my children!!
One word..Terrible. A major waste of money and no education was recieved. Terrible adminstration.
I am very dissapionted with this school. I've had both my kids one graduated the second still attends it. They do not motivate students to do better. They lax in communicating with parents regarding changes in teachers which has become frequent now, as well as communicating with parents regarding these changes. I definetly do not recomend it only is you are interested in the catholic education of your children. They do not promote students excellence at all.
Very Very poor leadership quality shown by the principal. The classes are way to large and yet they are letting teachers go. Odd, because they are always asking for more and more money. It is very true all the teachers do is gossip gossip gossip. I would think twice before sending your child to this school.
this school is really bad they cures they do anything and dont care the priciple dont care about the school my child entered there then the teacher was fighting him [[he has porn on his phone. I sent them to st.helena's and now he is more educated and happier he is doing good with his grades now and in honors but then he came to st helena he knew nothing that just helped me kno that they were teaching them p-k - 5th and the middle school had nothing to do just reteached was they did before
I love this school soooo very much! Though it has some flaws, it doesn't mean it is the worst school on earth. The teachers are strict and at the same time kind, and I know they give us work and punish us to teach us a lesson. The only more I can say, is that you should try St. Lucy's School out,its great.
On the outside, the school seems incredibly advanced with its technology and access to the teachers & principal through email, but in the inside, it runs like its archaic predecessors of years ago. The requirement of a building fee, general fee, registration fee, application fee, church donation fee, and first tuition runs to almost $2,000 and that is before the year begins. The money you pay for this school is not worth the hassels encountered. The same teachers go year after year with complaints & nothing is ever done. The early childhood center and first grades are the powerhouses of the school & have the best teachers, but after the first grade, there is no reason to keep your child there. My children are now in public school and are much better for it.
Over the years, SLS has gone down in discipline and leadership. The person leading the school should still be leading kindergarden. She has no leadership qualities and the school is continually deteriorating under her leadership. I wish Dr. Mutarelli would reinsate his position as principal. we are all aware that the Catholic schools stay open partially because of money they receive, but this is appalling!! Every time you turn around they are asking for more money. If parents are paying so much money, then their children should get the appropriate guidance they need. There are only few good teachers in SLS especially Mrs. Brent, Mrs. Mascia, Mrs. McGrath, Ms. Maruri and Mrs. Yee.
I have attended this school for about 4 years and honestly me and my parents agree it is a mistake. St.Lucys is full of pointless rules. And they are always asking for money. My advice..Stay in public, you actually learn.
I have 2 children in this school. The Early Childhood Center was fantastic for my daughter who has excelled tremendously in the first grade. My son however,(now in 8th grade) has suffered substantially since last year. The children are not academically challenged as they should be. Also the school is always asking for money. Nothing is free, not even Mass.
I have three children in the school and they are all very happy. My children take advantage of the wonderful after-school program and are also involved in many of the activities including the band, drama club, homework club, and they also attend the school dances and gym nights. The computer lab is incredible with flat screens and programs and the Early Childhood Center has the best program I have seen in the Catholic School system. Parent input is encouraged & teachers respond to parents immediately. The only downside is that there is no formal parent organization or PTA, but the principal does her best to keep all parents involved. SLS is definitely a great choice!
