Christ the King Elementary is the solution people. It has a Universal Pre-K all the way up to 8th grade . Its located at 1345 Grand Concourse near 170th street (VERY CLOSE). Education is excellent. There is always someone at the front door. Bullying and Harassment are taken very seriously and dealt with immediately. School environment is safe and kids are happy. Very CARING and compassionate staff. CLEAN!!! Principal's door is always open. CHECK IT OUT PARENTS!!!!
I am a recent alumnus(ae) of this school, and I will warn any parent considering of putting their child in this school. 1st. The principal is only concerned about the face of the school and is only concerned for her favorites. 2nd. The security at the school is so bad that anybody outside the school can get in considering that the church is inside the school, there are no cameras outside the school, and some of the doors are easily openable to get inside the school. 3rd. A few of the teachers in the school do not teach well the last time I have been there. 4th. The some of the students there are bad influences to other students; these students don't care about their work and do things that you would imagine that a student at that age would not do. 5th. Students are barely taught any science subjects at the school especially in the higher grades because they are focusing on 'other' important things. When I did the lab for the Science State Test for 8th grade, I felt unprepared because they didn't teach us anything. Also, there is only 1 Regent class in the school, and gym is offered only once per week. 6th. There are barely any after-school activities for students in the school.
I am the proud mother of a 3rd grader who attends SAM. She first started this school in PreK-4. She has excelled during her time at the school. My child has been on the honor roll since 1st grade. I am extremely satisfied with the education my daughter receives at Saint Angela Merici School. It is a safe and stable environment for her. I know she will continue to exceed at this school. The teachers have been great to my child. The faculty and Principal want to see the children excell. I would highly recommend this school to my friends, coworkers, neighbors, and extended family members.
I am appalled at how people lie and post these five star reviews about this school, if you are a parent considering this school for your children, think twice, or choose this school and expect to be disappointed. Just do the rest of society a favor, if you were to discover this school is not worth your business, please post a truthful review so that other parents won't make the same mistake.
SAM is an integral part of my family. I received all my sacraments (including marriage), also attended & graduated from SAM. Now my children have been a part of SAM since kindergarten with my oldest now heading to 5th grade here he will be with one of the best & long standing teachers at the school. My son has been on the honor roll since the 1st semester of the 1st grade without missing a beat, my daughter who was struggling in a program was taken into SAM in kindergarten & has flourished. The principal is tough but thats because she wants what is best for all of her children, because they are more hers than our own. They have an excellent music and religious program. The children read above their grade levels & have smart boards in every class room. There's a debate team, they have received numerous awards & won many competitions. The 8th graders are part of an annual competition, Thurgood MArshall Mock trial created by 2 Bronx Civil court judges. The 8th graders are coached by 2 attorney parents and is one of the highlights of the 8th graders final year. SAM has always made it to semi-finals and they keep pushing to the winner's circle. Excellent 2nd home & excellent education!
ST. ANGEL AOF MERICI IS A GREAT SCHOOL WITH LOVING AND CARING FACULTY. MY CHILFREN HAVE BEEN STUDENTS IN THAT SCHOOL FOR 7 YEARS. I HAVE SEEN MY CHILDREN DEVELOP INTO MATURE AND RESPONSIBLE STUDENTS. THEY HAVE BEEN ON THE HONOR ROLL SINCE FIRST GRADE. THIS ACCOMPLSHIMENT IS DUE TO THE LOVE AND GUIDANCE THEY HAVE RECEIVED FROM THEIR TEACHERS AND PRINCIPLE. THEY HAVE HELPED ME MOTIVATE MY CHILDREN TO BE THE BEST THEY CAN BE. WORDS CAN NOT EXPRESS MY PPRECIATION FOR THE WONDERFUL WORK THAT THE FACULTY AND THE PRINCIPLE DO IN MAKING THE STUDENTS SHINE.
Saint Angela Merici is a wonderful school with excellent teachers and a Sister who is the principal who brings so much to the table for the school, Her Motto has to be Excellence because she has done and is doing a remarkable job in insuring high accademic success, which makes for the children to be high achievers. They work very hard and enjoy doing so. Her staff supports her which is why the school doese so well. The school is immaculate each time you enter the building, the environment is healthy, loving, and Godly. This is what makes for a school that thrives. I Love St. Angela Merici, I had three (3) sons attend this school and now my grandson. I would reccommend St. Angela Merici to any parent that want the best for their child without reservation.
I am an attorney and this is the 4th year that I have coached the 8th graders at this school for the Thurgood Marshall Mock Trial competition. My co-coach and I teach the children how to try a case and then we compete with other schools. We have always made it past the second round and have made it to the semi-finals twice. I felt compelled to write this upon attending their graduation this past Saturday. The students invited me to attend and I complied. I am glad that I did. It was an amazing ceremony and what really stands out in this school is the relationship between the students, the faculty, and the parish. It is an excellent institution and one well worth your money.
St. Angela Merici is the best school for children from pre-k to 8th grade in this neighborhood. My oldest son graduated from St. Angela Merici in 2010 and is currently an honors students at All Hallows High School. It is important to note, that my son transferred to SAM after experiencing a horrible academic year at a public school. Although SAM's policy is not to enroll any students in 8th grade, the principal asked my son why she should give him the opportunity and he sold himself. from that moment on I knew this was the school for my children. The school's principal has established an excellent relationship between SAM and All Hallows as well as other high schools. My youngest son is currently in 4th grade with the BEST Teacher in the world. He has obtained honors EVERY time he receives his report card. I just attended the school's talent show this past Friday and the kids blew me away. The school is literally surrounded by the church. In fact, it seems as the church is hugging the school. I work hard and my sons' education is a priority. Every dime I give SAM is money well spent. I urge you to come and visit the school, just call and make an appointment.
St. Angela Merici is going down the hill while other schools are going up. The school is flunking and it's very worring. Some teachers are great ( very rarely to find a good teacher) and some are not good at all. There are very few teachers, there are way too many kids in one classroom. This year St. Angelas is bad and my children the students aren't paying attention and bother other children that want to learn.
St. Angela Merici School is the best elementary school in my area! The students learn a great deal. Teachers are very concerned about the students and the principal is awesome. My children love going to school and I am very blessed to have them there!
I have to say I am very disappointed in what has happend to Saint Angela Merici School. It is not at all what it used to be. I can't get over the fact that the class sizes are way to big and what happened to all the special subjects!!! This school has gone down hill.
i like the school and my son loves his surroundings , do not like the parking tickets in the quickest minute ever, for dropping off or picking up my child, But i do not have the answer for that ? yet? my BIGGEST CONCERN IS THIS YEAR , my son is now in the 3rd grade and yesterday he mentioned to me that he has approximately 34 --36 children in one class room and with one teacher miss Wilson. i love miss Wilson , BUT 34 children is WAY TO MUCH for any size class room and for any (1 teacher ) ? don't you agree ! i pay my sons school in full every year before he starts in Sept. AND I REALLY FEEL THAT 34 children in one classroom needs to change ASAP for the sake of the children, just like SISTER LOURDES ALWAYS say's,, FOR THE KIDS..
My daughter has been a student since the 1st grade, now is going to the 5th. This school is great!!! SAM prepares our children for higher learning. Where ever they go after this they can handle it all. The Teachers are great and they know everyone s name.
SAM is a great school that offers the children there a well rounded education. The teachers care for their students as if they were their own. Students are well prepared in all subject areas. The special subjects that they offer really complete the package of a great school. The music program, which includes choir and band is amazing. The art program has the children learning various art techniques and artists. Also the gym program really gives the students a great workout. Its a little gem hidden in the Bronx!
I currently attend St. Angela Merici School. I am a senior there and in my four years at that school, I have no complaints. The staff is excellent, the teachers are helpful and willing to teach, and the principal is willing to listen to your problems. This is my last year there, but I'll always remember this school as Serviam.
I am an alumni and the best years of my life took place here. The rigorous academic curriculum and caring teachers make this school exceptional.
I am an alumni & my son is now in kindergarden in SAM. I have to say they have far exceeded my expectations. My son receives religious instruction which some catholic schools don't give to kindergardeners, a day dedicated to computer instruction, gym, arts & crafts & 2 for music (one for voice & 1 for instruments) He loves his teachers the principal is out of this world, Sr Lourdes is the best. The assistant principal is strict but fair and kind. Mr. E, the head of religious instruction is the best. My son has already been on 1 field trip and they just started the school year. whats the best is he is learning all about the church and God. I am glad I chose to send him to SAM.
I am an alumni & I must say, now that my child attends the school I am a bit disappointed, but not by what you may think - The Arts & Crafts and lack of class trips really bothers me. I hate the fact that my child comes home with art work made out of paper plates(more than one occasion)and the fact that in her years there - they have not gone on one trip! Children need these outlets to help them grow - they should go to museums, they should interact with clay and paint! Not a big deal to some but it should be because u'r paying for this and the education should not lack content. The school has really changed under the direction of the new principal who is still riding on the coattails of principals b4 her. The school needs improvement form all ends.
My son graduated from Saint Angela in 2005 and my daughter is now going to the fifth grade. So far my experience with the school has been good. I have found that at times it is very hard to communicate with the principal and when she first came on board she made many changes that parents were uncomfortable with. However I believe that some of the changes have been for the overall progress of the students and their safety. The principal seems to have a good communication with the students and seems to be really concern about them. The teachers are good and easy to communicate with. I wish they would have more extra curriculum activities such as dancing, so far I only know of music and you need to pay extra for that.
