All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

I've been a Hyde parent for 6 years. Like all NY city schools Hyde has had it's struggles but it remains the one and only choice for my children and their education. It's an excellent school and the teachers are very dedicated. I'm a proud parent and my children are blessed to have so many people invested in their future, thank you Hyde family ...

To be honest I think the school cares more about the teachers then the students, all I really hear is discipline, and money problems.

Hyde Leadership Charter School is AMAZING!!! I have 2 children who both attend Hyde. One of my children is currently in his 7th year and my daughter in her third and I cannot be happier. Hyde is definitely a school that focuses on character as well as academics. I am always welcome in my children's school. My children are greeted by name each and every morning by school leadership staff members. Both of my children read at above average levels because of the joint effort of myself and my children's teachers. I find myself bragging about the school to my friends and even random people I speak to on the bus or train. Keep up the good work. As long as both of my children are successful and happy, I'm happy!!!!

Hyde is a wonderful place for willing and able minded families. Hyde builds character and changes families. I have had a lovely experience at this school. My daughter has been apart of this community for 8 years. She has grown into a wonderful amazing leader. My family has transformed through the family education department. I am very proud to be apart of Hyde.

I can't believe the emphasis this school puts more on behavior than the academics. The LOW state test scores speak 4themselves! I can't count the times my son (3rg grade) would spend in the dean's office for "fooling around" in the classroom: leaning back on his chair, calling out answers, drinking water in the classroom, bringing baseball cards, not sharing his school supplies (I do not provide for other people's children I wish I could), asking the teacher to re-explain herself when teaching a lesson because he didn't understand(really!), not wanting to sit on DA rug when it came time to listen to a story. (although I was told it was optional to sit on the rug). I mean he is just a kid seeing his classmates do a lot worse & they were able to remain in the classroom. My son was classified as being defiant, disrespectful, rude, anti-social, etc. Of course his classmates would copy the adults and use him as the scapegoat for everything that went wrong in the classroom. I think they need to have a re-training of their teachers, deans, and staff. There was never make-up work for time spent in the office. no stars

this school was horrible for my son. My son was a lively happy carefree child who constantly was bullied and ridiculed by students and sometimes staff. His first grade teacher used to make fun of him and had the class laugh at him because he didn't want to share. My son became very withdrawn and sad.The outcome of bringing this to the attention of the leadership team was deny, deny, deny. Bullies were not reprimanded for their actions and it shouldn't have surprised me since the teacher was never reprimanded. My son's academics suffered a great deal because of the low self-esteem he got at Hyde. Discovery groups were a joke! Monthly meetings of parents and staff were ridiculous since the teacher was so immature. My son told me that his 1st grade teacher would read text messages she received from her boyfriend to the class. One such message was him breaking up his relationship with her and she told the kids to leave her alone because she was not in the mood that day! I have never experienced such umprofessionalism in my life needless to say for my child to have been exposed to such trivial matters! This school is HORRIBLE!!!! no stars for this school

Hyde Leadership Charter School (aka Hyde-Bronx) is an amazing school. They believe that developing child's character is as important as developing a child's mind. I am beyond impressed with the school. It is a wonderful place for children -- and their parents -- to learn. Not only is the academic program rigorous, but Hyde-Bronx differs fundamentally from other schools because of its intense focus on character development and parent involvement. Students, parents and teachers participate in a program that regularly addresses each individual's personal growth. Hyde-Bronx is a supportive and challenging environment where students, teachers and staff hold each other to their best. A Harvard EdLabs-conducted study showed that when Hyde-Bronx's students are admitted, they score similarly or below the students at surrounding local schools. However, once enrolled in Hyde-Bronx, students make significantly more progress than those students who were not lotteried in and are now attending other schools. The Harvard study found that Hyde-Bronx middle school students gained approximately one month of learning in math and two months in English for each year they were enrolled in Hyde-Bronx.

This school will regress your child to a state you've never witnessed before. My daughter attended this school and was constantly bullyed while teachers, staff, and administrators did NOTHING! My daughter begin to have nightmares and didn't even want to go to school anymore. Hyde either played FAVORITES with certain kids or FEARED certain parents. Hyde did NOT hold every child accountable for their actions. Every ting was ALWAYS an accident when my daughter would get pushed, hit by the same bully. Homework was nilch compared to want my nieces were receiving in public school. Needless to say, the workshops they held for the 3rd grade ELA/MATH was a joke! My daughter came back with incomplete work from those workshops. Honestly this school needs a serious make-over from the inside out!. I must say when my daughter was in 1st grade she had the best teacher..Ms Aquino! Hyde should have every teacher follow in her lead. after that it went downhill from there! I cannot stressed how this school is not for those who want a better education for their kids. I have since enrolled my daughter in the NYc Public School system and I couldn't be happier. There is more structure and learning!

I Attended the required once a month Parent Discovery Night tonight and was very pleased to find that the school had set up a Math Workshop which was taught by three dynamic math teachers. This is just one of the many things that makes Hyde so unique. This Years theme is Picture the Possibilities . Little things like this is what inspires Hyde students to dream bigger dreams. I m really impressed with the quality of teachers Hyde is hiring. Hyde really is bringing in the best for the students of the South Bronx. There s tons of programs for our kids to partake in.From the Roberta Flack Music Program,Sports,Girl Scouts,Performing Arts, They have a beautiful Library for all three divisions and more. Recently, Hyde inaugurated their new High School building.I can only hope an Elementary/Middle School building will follow in the near future. The Staff is amazing and like family to me.The Parents and Volunteers in the school are really special people. My daughter and I started this journey 5 years ago and as we continue this amazing educational adventure I don t want to imagine our lives without the support of Hyde and their talented staff. They are truly a diamond in the rough.~drb

Hyde is an amazing center of education, integrity, and community for the South Bronx. I feel privileged to witness the impact they are making on the lives of students and their their families. It is truly an inspiring example of how education can extend above and beyond traditional roles of academics and become an institution not only of learning, but also self discovery for everyone involved.

School is a place where children should go to be educated and inspired at hype this goal is truly accomplished. Hyde students are confident, assured, ready and prepared to tackle challenges. The entire administration offers an environment that is well prepared and equipt to teach. Hyde students are proud of themselves and their teachers. Hyde students have good reason to also be proud of their parents. Hype lives up to my belief and daily creed to my son that college is not an option it is a requirement. With hyde determination and consistancy my son- like we say each morning is truly college bound. Go hyde

Hyde is an amazing school with a track record of success and longevity. As a teacher in Hyde's first year open, I was witness to and partner in their effort to develop a strong, supportive community where one did not exist before. The focus on Character development is beyond important. The student-citizens that Hyde helps develop will be immensely valuable to their communities as they grow older and become adults. The lessons learned at Hyde will not easily be forgotten.

I appreciate the camaraderie, the genuine care and concern. I admire the authenticity of compassion and loyalty to both educate and guide Hyde students. Their desire to involve the entire family-we are all Hyde relatives. Hyde encompasses the importance of accountability from all: parents, teachers, administrators and most importantly parents. Only here, unlike many public schools- Hyde parents are eager to show up and participate. Hyde values and welcomes our suggestions and by no means do they shut us out.At Hyde I feel my son if safe from outside entities as well as things such as; peer pressure, bullying, mocking etc. Hyde will not tolerate such behavior. At Hyde our children are encourage to have courage, humility and integrity. They are taught that a quality education does not solely consist of academics. It s about respect for yourself and others. Our children are also encouraged to be considerate of others feelings and thoughts. Hyde teaches our children not to judge others and recognize we are all unique. At Hyde there is time for everyone to get familiar with one another. Middle school teachers know the names on elementary students and vice-versa. Administrators know most students by name and not because the student is synonymous with exhibiting unruly behavior or under performing. Familiarizing themselves with all students and families is simply because it s the Hyde way. According to my seven year old second grade son, his teachers care about him. They really want him to learn and grow. They insist he tries his best and always go out their way to help. According to him his teachers don t just sit back and allow the students to not learn and do their work. His teachers care. They way I see it Hyde goes above and beyond. That s why we love our Hyde family!!! They deserve all the assistance they can get. Though, parents along with Hyde faculty will keep up the momentum all monies will benefit us. Thanks in Advance, Ms. Gina Smith Mother of Mr. Maxwell Martin

My daughter has been going to Hyde since they opened in the Bronx she started as a Kindergartener and is now in the 3rd grade and I am still please with Hyde just as I was when she began. Her reading level is on a 5th grade level, which is great for a child in the 3rd grade. My son is also now attending the school and is doing well. I love how patient the teachers are with the kids and how they inspire them to want to learn as well as knowing how to make learning fun. Something I like about Hyde is the Hyde principal s and the Hyde words. I like the Hyde 10 word because when you do something wrong you think about the words and you do the right thing. Also the Hyde words are all over the school and in every class room. And the Hyde words help you build your character. You will be honest and truthful to other people. The Hyde words are courage, concern, curiosity, integrity, leadership and the principles are destiny, humility, conscience, truth, and brothers keepers.

They can be either educational, fun or both. Opportunities by having the courage to be able to do activities involving others outside of our grades. Because of Hyde you have been getting opportunities I wouldn t believe like going to Washington to see Adolfo carrion and being nominated for people to people. Something that I like the most about Hyde is the opportunities that are given to the students to be involved in all types of things. For example I am a Jr Dean at Hyde. I am the very first Jr Dean in Hyde history and that changed my view in many different was. Now I can express myself in many ways and one of the ways are in poetry which is one of the ways I was taught in 7th grade. Since have been in Hyde I have changed a lot. For example Hyde has taught me that I don t have to be afraid to do something if I want to do something. Also, something that I like about Hyde is the fact that Hyde is a college bound school. Meaning that Hyde prepares us for college. Along with that Hyde teaches us about character and that s the main reason why I like Hyde.

The thing I admire the most about Hyde leadership is how welcomed I felt in this school. I love the fact that this school is abounding with so much character and its easily shown not only on the students but the teachers as well. I would also like to say that the teachers in Hyde are very helpful. They have brought help to another level, meaning that they are more helpful then in my old school. Not saying that my former teacher didn t care but its hard to have personal time with a student with around 40 students. Since this school has less students per class its kind off easier to ask for help or raise my hand for participation.

I love Hyde Leadership Charter School because our school doesn t just think about each child s academics, Hyde also thinks about the child s character. We even have 5 special words we work on; Curiosity, Courage, Concern, Leadership, and Integrity. Hyde shares a building with a public school, and in the past, we had some issues with the other student s from the public school. Luckily, Hyde came had Ambassadors, and with the help of the Ambassadors, we know get along with each other because of meeting s we had. I also love this school because we have school meetings. And in my other school, we didn t have school meetings, it was always, Go finish your classes, behave, and leave. But when I came to Hyde, it changed my thoughts on a lot of things. I know love the idea of having uniforms and school meetings. And also, I love how your not alone is the Hyde process, I love how your family and teachers are involved in everything you do negative or positive. One thing I like about Hyde is that they have trips and retreats for kids, but also for parents. Another thing is that they show a build of character when you get older. They have five words and principals. In addition, they have sports for any kind.

Hyde Leadership Charter is one of the greatest positive things that have happened to our family. At HYDE the parents have the opportunity to getting involved in our children's education, which is great because when our kids notice it that school is important to us, it will be important to them as well and they will succeed. HYDE promotes positive attitude and its students are well behaved. HYDE is the BEST! Looking forward for many years to come at HYDE, Proud parent of Devin Munoz!

Hyde Leadership Charter school, has bought my daugher and I closer. I love the parent discovery nights, and family days. Hyde also challenges my daughter and pushes her to acheive her goals. This is my 2nd year with Hyde and my daugher is doing great. This is why I feel Hyde should be America's Favorite School.

The Hyde Leadership Charter School (Bronx) is a great school. It focuses on the family as a whole, not just the student. At Hyde, their main goal is not just to educate your child, it's also to help them reach their full potential through character development.

I love my son's school. It is one of the most wonderful schools which is located in the Bronx. This school teaches the children about leadership and the qualities of a leader. In which I believe that we should encourage our children to become future leaders, in a world that is constantly changing. This school provides good communication skills between students, parents and faculty. It is one of the best schools in which I can proudly say that my child attends such an awesome school!

I have never experienced a school like Hyde, their concern is not only accademic it is in grooming the student into an honest self assured person. Their phillophy of truth over harmony and their holding students accountable for their actions and the actions of the people they choose to be with assist these student in making good decisions that will guide them on a path of success. I am also impressed with the work they do with the parents, they must be involved with the school and they also have retreats for the student and the parent which assist the family in communication.

Hyde offers students a rich learning environment, with dedicated faculty and administration, but as important, it supports learning about yourself, promotes self regulation and the values of service, community and life-long learning. The schools' approach to parental and community involvement, in all the goals of the school, is rare within the context of education for all. Bravo!. Children have a real and tangible chance at Hyde to improve their lives and then give back to improve the lives of others.

I love Hyde Leadership because it helps children, parents and staff to develop their character and their leadership skills. It allows opportunities for children to try and fail, but learn and grow from their mistakes. Hyde is special because parents are a part of their childrens success. Parents are willing to learn and grown in order to inspire their children. Our staff feels this is the best place to be because we all are in the same processs as our students and family. The Hyde community is a family school and we welcome all. Come and visit, and you will be welcomed too! Y. Wise

Hyde Leadership Charter School is a rare find! Incorporating character development with academics should be the staple in every school and its unique mandatory family program is the key to its success! The founder of the Hyde schools believes that everyone is gifted with a unique potential that defines a destiny. At the core of the Hyde process are seminars that foster open communication based on honesty -- not just between parent and child -- but between all participants including honesty with oneself. In addition, seminar participants support and challenge each other to achieve their goals. The result is a warm and caring community that sets higher and higher standards and achieves them!

I love Hyde because the school focuses on character and involves and expects family participation. Teachers, students and families are encouraged to become better people through challenging themselves. As a result; the students, teachers and families at Hyde are like a family. Finally, academic rigor and attending college are also emphasized at the school. I have never worked alongside such an ambitious and special group of students, families and staff members.

Hyde-Bronx keeps it real. As the students learn about the 5 Words and Principles as founded by Joe Gauld in Bath, Maine, so do the parents in their monthly Discovery Groups. Parents are an integral part of the school's philosophy. In addition, not only do the students get challenged academically and artistically, but their character is also strengthen by the 5 Words: Curiosity, Courage, Concern, Integrity & Leadership, and 5 Principles: Humility, Destiny, Truth, Conscience and Brother's Keeper. The teachers are also challenged by the Words & Principles. So every one involved in the school walks the walk and talks the talk. It works if you work it!

My daughter came from an excellent preschool that challenged her and therefor we need an elementary school that would do the same. Hyde was the perfect choice. The standards set for the students is a refreshing change from the standards set by the other schools.

I have a son that attends Hyde and I was looking for an environment where my son could learn and be safe. The school has great potential and the mission is noble however I have had problems and have contacted the principal and some of the other staff but I would never get a call back, or an email to let me know that they my concerns were relevant. They expect the children to be responsible and accountable so we should expect no less from our school administration. Otherwise, considering the public schools choices in the Bronx it is not that bad. I believe in about 5-10 years it will be one ofthe best schools in New York State.
