dont send your child here! i am a freshman here at this school and i thought that this school was gonna be a great school, by its name. but now that ive spent a whole year here, my mind had said otherwise. Parents, if you want to send your children to this school then you might want to reconsider on that; if you're looking for a good school then choose anything but here; if your child was accept to this school, make sure your child goes to the other school they were accepted, unless they were accepted to only here. If thats so, then rip that acceptance letter and demand for a second round. im sorry that i seem blunt, but im saying this for the sake of ur child/children!
I have read all of the reviews on this school. I can agree with some of your opinion. As a grandparnet of a 9th grader I will say some of the teaching staff needs to be taught how to handle these youngest. My grandson seems to like most of the teachers and enjoy being taught by them, however there is one teacher who I feel should be removed from the school. Some of his statements to these children are out of line. I personally think he has a problem with children of color. On another note I have visited the school several times just to see what going on, My grandson is involved in several activities outside of the school that is wonderful, I only wish this school could offer more activities to these student. overall the school gets 3 stars
I graduated from this school. After reading the reviews from all of these other people this school must have totally changed. Yes, Academically and as a person they expeced alot from us because they were preparing us to compete with other students that had greater resources then we had. And here we go with this thing about the teacher not caring about the students. Guess what when they get to college the professors won't hold their hand either.
i went to science skills for two years. the school looks like the school in the movie 'lean on me' when the school started out crazy. The teachers did not care for the students but a few teachers. MR. P, MR. Cassico, and they are the gym teachers.
As a parent of a student at this school, I'm very disapointed with the administration and some of the teachers. The the student population so far so good. I give it 3 stars.
i go to this school, its the worst ever, and the administration expects so much from us and makes it sound like it is our fault the school is horrible in almost everyway
Do not send your children hear unless you want them to complain daily for 4 years about what an 'institution' this school is. It should even be on this website
This school is not a good school academically. I dont think the teachers care enough. The people in this school that care the most are the deans Mr Latham, Mr Johnson and Ms Caldwell. They also lack extracurricular activities. And they are very unorganized.
This the worst School to send your child.Take my advice I am a senior at this school and it has really gone downhill.
im a freshman in science skills center high school. my personal opinion is that if you know your a good student, you can try your best to make the school your in better. overall i think science skills is just low in resources and government funding. it's really not that dreadful. november 9, 2008
i am in science skills as a sophomore... i love the school... its a good school
I'm entering my 10th grade year at science skills center, its not the worse school ever but its not the best it can do better because its adding in more activities and getting new students. So there's hope yet.
I too am an alumni of science skills. I believe the curriculum and ambiance of the school was structured in a way so that education would be primary to all other things. Haven't checked on it as of late but it is was a terrific school at the time I was there. Although I was runner up for class clown of the classs of 2003, the school had some of its most memorable moments. I would recommend this school to any child who wants to further their learning process and maybe in the next few years, we alumni can get together and develop some programs that will bridge the gap between the current student and alumni.
I am a present freshman in this school, and i must say this school is like a home to me. The teachers treat you like family, and even though they go a lil over board with the homework assignments, they really care about you and your future. Also if your child wants to be a doctor or nurse, enter you child in the gateway program, its a great program to be in, and the trips are awesome!
I am a graduate of Science Skills Center High School 2003. I must disagree with the previous from a fellow alumni. I found my High School do be a very rewarding and exciting place to attend. Of course I to was in the Dance program I was apart of the Dance Company. Even though somedays in Skills as we call it are a little rough overall we all grow as kids into adulthood at this school. I definitely recommend the dance program mainlt because I love my Mama Dye-Asante. She taught alot about my technique and being apart of the dance company and being able to participate in things like Dance Africa with Baba Chuck Davis and meeting so many different wonderful people was a very uplifting experience for me. Now this isn't the only reason to attend this school it is also very structured to gear teens into the future.
This is a very great school. It may have some difficulties but it is great. I would suggest that your child goes into the dance program. Ms.Dye is a teacher who is very dedicated and she is actually one of the very few that actually cares. I should know, she help led my daughter Tanae to a victory in a world wide championship. Basically what im trying to say is that I would recommend this school to all new commers. May you be as lucky as my daughter was.
I don't think the school has enough extrcurricular activities for the students which means they have to be looking at other agencies for after school activities; Also the school is very poor in returning phone calls or even answering the main phone number, You're constantly getting disconnected or when a live person does pick up the phone, they transfer you to someone who is not at their desk and then when you leave a voice msg, gues what? NO one returns the call!
Hi, I'm a graduate of June 2006. I must say that this is a fairly poor school. If you want to see your children succeed do not send them here. There are a few teachers that actually care, including Ms. Dye, who is in control of the dance Department. Many of the good teachers have left to teach at better schools. If your child must come here, try to get him/her involved in the dance department. It's more organized then the school itself. It will definitely expand your child's horizon and keep them out of trouble. Trust me on that! - K. Wallace
The structured Extraccurricular activities were the only upside to going to Science Skills High. The teachers were always willing to help but the enviroment didn't allow for a lot of learning. THe Schoool is nowhere as structured as the Dance class or the track team. The principals have no control over the Super-seniors. Who usually disrupt the learning process for younger students .
this school is a very unorganized and hectic school.their gym is also an auditorium!very little parents are involved. but the teachers are great and commited.one guidanceis very lazy and uncooperative.wouldnt recommend this school.
