School is awesome. I read some of the reviews from parents. Some teachers I don't like but kids shouldn't come home crying. Theschool might be very hard and it might be a bit strict but thats good, it's preparing you for life. Parents cant baby their kids forever. Also all schools have garbage bag that leak. Consider yourself lucky if you live near this school. It's far more cleaner than ANY school.

I am a 6th grade student at the Arts and Humanities academy, and I absolutely LOVE this school. The teachers are so nice, and they make learning fun. The programs are challenging, but if you got into the school, it's nothing you can't handle. The principal is so approachable unlike my other school. You can tell him anything. The yearly academy trip so fun. The kids there are so nice. It's like one huge family. My favorite part of the school is the Drama Club. I am a part of it, and the yearly play is coming along really well. We have so much fun,a dn we learn so much!

This school is EXCEPTIONAL. I'm a 6th Grader in the Academy of Scientific Research, and I LOVE this school. The teachers are exceptional and the 7th and 8th Graders are really nice. In the first few weeks of school, I learned TONS. I don't get why people are complaining about the sanitation in this school. Cleanest school I've ever been too. The academic programs can be challenging, but like one of my teachers said, "We do challenge you, but it's nothing you can't handle. You're all very Gifted." And about the lack of trips, there is a three day, two night, overnight trip for each academy. Destinations to Boston, Philly, and D.C. The 7th and 8th Graders tell me that they're SUPER. I have yet to go on mine in December. Can't wait. The teachers care about you very much, you feel comfortable around them after your first lesson. You can tell them anything. The dean is the BEST. He's really nice, funny, and attends to your problem as soon as he can. Unlike some of my friend's school, the older kids are awesome. They help you out with any problems, and are funny and kind. There may be the occasional "6th Graders!" in the halls, but you laugh. XD I LOVE this school. It really is #1!

Nothing against Mark Twain; my son scored in the 99th percentile on their Science Admissions exam and was easily accepted, but I.S. 187 is the clear favorite if academics are your primary concern for your child. Principal Berman is a great leader, educator and understands the importance of civic duty and general welfare. Your child will not be indoctrinated with politically correct feel good nonsense as a substitute for the lessons of hard work and personal responsibility.

I'm a alumni of 187. I'm currently attending Brooklyn Technical High School and am entering sophmore year this coming September. This school is great and has prepared me for the hard work and stress of High School. It has been consistently rated as the best gifted and talented school in the state. It was hard at first, and the teachers can get a bit grouchy, but this is all in prepartion for the SHSAT and high school. Honestly, I had many great experiences here and made many friends, 99% of which are attending a specialized high school. As for the sanitary conditions, I found it to be very clean and I actually used to live 2 houses away in which the school never violated my integrity.

Both my son and my daughter have attended this school. This is the last year that my children will be at this school. The education that they have received, and the preparation that has been provided to them for high school has been exceptional. As a result, both my kids were accepted into the high scools of their choice. They have continually done very well on their state tests, and IS 187 is consistently one of the top schools in the city. The teachers care about the kids and always try and help them if they encounter problems in their work. It has been a great experience for us to be part of the IS 187 community and I would like to thank the principal and the teachers for laying the groundwork for my children to go to the next stage in their school career with confidence.

I am an 8th grader in Arts & Humanities here, and I can say that this school is great. I can also counter all the negative reviews. 1.Unclean Condition- Doesn't everyone put out their garbage when it's time? This school does not control the Department of Sanitation. Don't expect us to be able to. 2.Crying kid on the 1st day- Because of what? Please. This is life, people get used to it eventually. It's probably not even that bad. 3. Too much stress- Although some teachers yell, a majority of them do not. The rules are not strict at all. There isn't a lot of homework. 4-5 quizzes in a day is an exaggeration. You should expect them, you were taught the material already. Don't boohoo about it now. This school is one of the top in the state for gifted and talented students, not for kids who cry about hw in 4 subjects and a quiz. It is expected. High school is much harder. Honestly, if you/your child cannot handle this school, transfer out.

The school is great! I'm a 6th grader in the science academy. All the reviews about the teachers being strict are lies. They are really nice! But it's true that there were bedbugs in the school, but it was only 1. No one yells at you on the first day of school. There are many tests though, and there is a lot of homework. But the fact that there are 4-5 tests a day is exaggerated. There's about 2 tests a week. My facility advisor is awesome. My only complaint is that they teach too much from the textbook.

i send my child to this school over mark twain due to good reviews. the first day my child went there he came home crying. then on the 2 week, i get a letter saying they have bedbugs. the teachers are extremely strict and put alot of pressure on you, and your child will not have a good time. 2010-2011
