There are some pointed questions every parent, and prospective student, should ask of the powers that be here when considering the school as one of many options : 1) Exactly how many students from last year's graduating class found employment with The Transit Authority.....and how many Transit Authority employees are graduates of the school ? As the school, formerly East New York Vocational and Technical High School, adopted the "transit" curriculum in the spring of 1985, and changed its name as of February 1, 1986, every gradating class since 1989 has enrolled under the aegis of a transportation technology curriculum. Certainly, the TA keeps records even though the school has traditionally avoided doing so. 2) Exactly how large was the present graduating class in its freshman year ? Do not trust graduation percentages; ask for raw numbers. If 360 freshmen enroll one year, and 120 graduate four years later, that is a 33.33 % graduation rate, not 96 % ! The numbers the school provides, and has provided for the last 30 years , only reflect the percentage of seniors IN THEIR LAST SEMESTER !!! 3) Ask about college graduation rates. The school's mission was originally to provide vocational education, but a legion of administrators and teacher's working closely with them have padded their own resumes with statistics about college enrollment. But how many kids, pushed into college by self serving staff, actually were successful there ? Relatively few, from my 28+ years experience ( 1983-2012) . As a career Special Education teacher, I know of, and am proud of, my many students who found success in the military, serving all over the world's troubled spots, HOWEVER, I can not name one of my students who made a career working for The Transit Authority of NYC, or any other municipality. Oh, and lastly, find out EXACTLY what instruction will be provided working on the rail cars in the Rail Car Lab. Ask to speak with a senior taking classes there. Most years, the cars installed are hardly ever or not used at all. Read Less

Since retiring 13 months ago I have kept in touch with other staff members, and the school continues its steady downhill slide. The principal continues to allow an inner circle of staff members to pretty much do as they please, regardless of professional competence. More stress is made on towing the party line than on personal integrity; veteran teacher constantly express a desire to leave. Discipline is sorely lacking within the student body; administration simply commands little respesct and no fear. Yhe decline of this place is inexcusable, and can primarily be blamed on a singular lack of leadership.

This school isn't as bad as people say it is. Although it does have some problems like outside behavior that could all be solved if parents started to be involved in their child's school life. If parents attended meetings and voiced their opinions maybe this school could change and be the next "medger evers" or "mid wood". It isn't the school that makes you, you make the school. However. besides, IT IS A VERY HANDS ON SCHOOL THAT WILL CHALLENGE YOU

I was a strong supporter of this school and was proud to tell of all the wonderful programs and opportunities offered my child who attends Transit Tech. However, I am sad to say it has deteriorated under the present leadership. They have a new start time at 7:13 AM. Of course no one including the teachers get there at that time. Some students have to travel by two buses and a train to get to school. So every morning my child misses at least 20 minutes of instruction in a 45 min class. When this was brought to the Principal's attention and the question was asked "So when are the students to eat breakfast?" his response was that the students do not eat the breakfast and that there is plenty of time for them to get to class. Of course, this is a scanning school. So he thinks it fine to have the doors open at 7am. Have students scanned - take off their belts and have their bags searched - eat breakfast and get to class by 7:13. Insane! In addition I have become a un-involved parent as my voice and the voices of other parents are not being heard. I am glad my child is leaving and while I still hold a great deal of admiration for the hardworking teachers - They need a real Principal.

This school isn't really what everyone makes it out to be. I have once worked as this school's staff. One of our jobs was too go to websites like this and write a good report about it. Most of the comments below are from other staff members with fake reports. The teachers are very lazy, and the students are very aggressive. There are certain teachers that teach collage courses who give a lot of work but aren't willing to take time out to help the students. Also the schools population is 80% guys who often cause problems.

My son has been attending transit tech high school for three years and let me tell you there is nothing special about this school. There are some very good teacher's in the school that are willing to help student's but the other's are really lazy. My son usually those well even when these odds where against him that was until he entered eleventh grade. The junior teacher's look like they don't want to teach. There are even some teacher's that teach Java programming where most of the student's failed. The student's that did pass only pass with low marks close to failing. There are many more problems with transit than just this

My nephew has been here since 9th grade, hopefully and prayerfully he's going on to the 11th in Sept., and things are getting better, although I wish the parents would participate 'more' when it comes to the PTA Meetings and other programs. I do realize that some people are struggling, and going through some other issues, but shouldn't your children's education matter as well? Any way, I'm grateful for the progress that this school is making, and hope (and pray) that things continue to turn around for them, and get 'better' as time goes on.

This is a great school, very big, and very helpful. One thing that i dont like about this school is that some students play around too much at lunch and there is some abuse from the bigger students toward freshmens., this is not physical abuse it is like playoing around with freshmen but in a disturbing way.

I am an alumni of Transit Tech and I wanted to say that this is a great school, with wonderful teachers and great sports teams. I was on the track team all four years and it was a wonderful experience. Thank You Transit Tech

My son has been in transit since 9th grade. He's now in 10th grade. I have no problems with this school at all. He is in an honor class and he is doing very well. Transit has very good things going for it and very gifted kids with excellent teachers as leaders.
