I have just graduated from this school and I can say that my experience here was pleasing, at most. I am not from Park Slope and a majority of the kids who attend are. Many people were quick to judge and I did not feel welcome. Although despite all the social troubles I had I can definitely say there is a great photography program with the relatively new teacher Ms. Sunners. As well as the photography program the math department has a great teacher, Mr. Arroyo. I`ve had him for seventh and Eighth grade and he teaches wonderfully. His work was always challenging and proved to teach me many new things that are useful for highschool! I hope the very best for anyone who goes here and that their experience will be more enjoyable than mine was.

Going to this school is probably one of the best decisions that I've made in my life. A teacher of mine back in elementary school recommended this school to me and I couldn't regret putting this school on my application. The teachers and the staffs are all very helpful. The guidance counselor there is very helpful and is glad to help out students. Also the principal and the assistant principals there are all very nice and look after their students. Getting there is fairly easy. There is a B63 stop right on 5th Avenue 5th Street, next to the school, and another at 5th Avenue 4th Street. Also, there is a R subway station at 4th Avenue 9th Street. Another great thing about this school is that the lunch period takes place outside(there is still a cafeteria provided) and there is a park next to the school and a field where students will be able to eat their lunch.

My son is halfway through his sixth grade year and is very, very happy. He loves his peers, the time outside before, during (lunch) and after school, and enjoys all his classes. The instrumental band (trumpet) is excellent, and an incredible deal given how much instruction they get each week. We are lucky because we live close to the school, so the commute is simple.

Some of my fondest memories came out of this school. When I had attended MS 51 the school was slowly going through a transformation from a neighborhood school to that of a specialized format. The student body was changing, and the program was becoming more "gifted." I take with me a great deal of experiences and memories due to the various classes I had taken. Very special kudos to the teaching staff, and the academics they promote. If it weren't for MS 51 I do not know where I would be today, as it was an important springboard for the rest of my academic career!

I am currently in the eighth grade and arrived in the school during the seventh. It was pretty easy to fit in amongst everyone since everyone was friendly. But- there's always a but to good things. The girls can be extremely mean and snobby. They can judge you in an instant depending on how you look, or what you wear. Besides that, the school's been fun, and I will miss it after I move out of state :(

This school has high academic standards as well as a great arts program. It is culturally diverse and in a wonderful neighborhood. MS 51 has done a fantastic job meeting the needs of their students. My son is finally being challenged while having fun. His teachers are great. There is no downside to this school.
