PS295 is a gem of a learning community. The teachers, administration, parents and students work hard to build a community that is warm, challenging, nurturing and accountable. Because of its small size, all students are known and supported by ALL of the faculty. The inclusion model thrives here- with talented teachers that both challenge and support all students regardless of academic ability. There is an energy and commitment that is palpable in the school- almost all faculty are in love with their jobs and their students. The arts commitment is harder for schools to make in these economic times, but with administrative support and strong fundraising by parents through events and grants, the arts remain alive and vital to student growth. Parent involvement is encouraged and there is a strong core of involved and inviting parents.
P.S. 295 is a great school because of its wonderful and supportive parent community which works together, shares responsibility for all children, and supports the faculty of PS 295 to create a great education environment for all its children, including Sanaa, Skye, Amalia, Ruby, Lulu, Eric, Olivia, Mia, Joel, Sam, Annika, and with a special shout out to PTA VP Martin :)
PS 295 is a wonderful find! The principal, the PTA, the teachers are excellent. The DOE recognized the school with an A score, one of the few Park Slope schools to receive an A rating. My child and I could not be happier.
My daughter is in third grade and my son is in kindergarten at the school. The administration and teachers are excellent. The arts curriculum really differentiates this school from peer schools in the area. Parent involvement is superb. My children are getting a very strong academic and arts education in a familial and multi-cultural environment.
I love this school my daughter started at 2nd grade and my son stareted at k and the teachers are good to all the kids
My son is in KG and I have to admit that I knew nothing about the school at first, but was desperate to find a decent school for my child. After just a few days I knew my son was lucky to be part of this incredible school. I love the curriculum, the teacher and staff are amazing and the parent Coordinator is extremely helpful - and nice!
My son is in Pre-K and we have had a very positive experience. It is a small community based school. At first I was a little shocked by how structured his day is. I was expecting more free play but he has reponded realy well. The Pr-K program itself is amazing. They have dance, music, art, and science at least once a week and of course lots of centers and reading. There is a strong emphasis on arts and dance in the school which I love. I have always felt welcomed in the class room and parent involement is encouraged. I can stay and play with him in the class room as long as I like. The principal is very involved and very approachable. On the down side the school has no real gym or playground (they use the neighbourhood playground) and instead of gym they have a dance studio.
A school that truly cares for their students and parent community.
Staff really cares about each student. No slacker teachers here. Teachers especially sensitive to students whose first language was not English. Academics B+. Very good level of parental involvement.
My child attends pre k at ps 295 and we are very happy with the school. He is very happy as well. The arts program is fantastic. and the teachers we have met have all been great.
