the school is a good school however the principal is a control freak and she take her role as a principal a little to far. she is very dismive to a parents view if it seems different or controversial to the school. she has kicked parents out of the school when they confronted her on situations with her and their child. she also picks on a child if at any time that child has did something wrong if at any time there is a problem your child is the oneat fault .she also dont listen to both views if your child is one of the students involved. i removed my child because of her action my child didnt want to come back to that school and wished they was never born . this principal made my child feel very unhappy . but he loved his teacher friends .
PS 119 offers students a warm environment where children are not only taught, they are respected and encoraged to think outside the box. PS 119 fosters an environment where students learn to be peacfeul and respectful of their environment, each other and themselves.
The school primarilly focuses on peace, though it is exeptional it doesnt really close in with the curriculum.
This school is amazing. The art and activities they have are very fundamental. From the music department to the shows they put on, this school has it all. When i went to this school, i had the best time of my life. The teachers are very caring and help you with everything. When i had a problem, i could count on my teacher for help and they would give me the advise that i needed. Even teachers that weren't your teacher anymore would he me out with the problems that i had. This school had activities for everyone. The best time of the year {for me} was Field Day. There are more great features about this school that i love but i would then have to sit here all day to remember all the great memories.
I am so thrilled with this school!! They have strong academic programs and great Arts programs. My child is in chorus and art. The principal, Ms. fernandez, takes an interest in every child. She has brought a character development program that fosters respect for diversity and peace. I have one child in special ed at the school and one in a regular class. You cant tell the difference!! Thanks to the principal and Assistant principal, Ms. Snow for going above and beyond to educate my kids as well as all the others. This is what a school should be!!
This school is great! The principal and assistant principal are very involved and know almost all the children by name. They have created a safe and strong learning environment. I cant wait for my youngest child to be ready to attend 119.
I am not a parent but I am an alumni of PS 119. The school is great. They have been in the business for 105 years and are great at it. THe academic programs are fantastic. They really help teachers individually and there was always a chance that you would have a student teacher in your class to help you alonng the way. In the gifted programs, the teachers are extremely educated. They make the students read books that challenge the mind and make you think before you act. There are many extracurricular activities available at 119. I was in the chorus program myself some time ago(4 years). It was fantastic. Parents are involved in all of the activities 119 has to offer. THey have a very active PTA and the mural was created by the children, teachers, janitors, and parents (and myself, tank you very much). 5-306E all day!
I have two children, one who just graduated from PS 109 and the other is in the third grade. I am extremely pleased that my children had the opportunity to attend this school. The teachers, Principal and staff are very helpful and loving towards the children and extend this attitude to the parents in addressing their concerns. I would recommend anyone to this school. The staff is the best and any parent can feel at ease that their child will be safe and will receive a great education at this school.
Parent are very involved, I think it is a good school. Teachers are very helpful. They have a wonderful art program, and they now have dance classes for kids.
My son attended this school until the 4th grade when we moved to NJ. Overall I was satisfied and never had any problems with his teachers or the administration. However, there is way too much yelling and disrespect of the students as I have seen. Never towards my son but the environment could be much more inviting and nurturing. In comparison to NJ, the teachers never raise their voices and my son feels safe, not intimidated or belittled. This way he can focus on learning, not being scared. Overall, PS 119 does a fair job for the challenges it faces, like the volume of students, but there is better if you can relocate outside NY.
