This school reminds me of when I was in elementary. Filled with enthusiastic teachers/staff ,welling and able to give students and parents 150% of themselves to insure the progress of the kids. So rare in brooklyn. PS 172 is the true jem of our community.

I recently registered my daughter to this school. This was our number one choice and we are very happy she was accepted. The principal and staff are always helpful and kind. I look forward to my daughter starting school in the fall.

I am pleased with my son's progress in school. My son who is currently in Ms. Minerva's class loves her and coming to school. At first I didn't know what to expect from my son being so shy. Thanks to her and the support from home he has become a confident kid and loves reading. Thankyou Ms. Minerva your the best. Love the Michel Family.

I HAD such high expectations for this school until I applied for my daughter for kindergarten. My daughter was given an assessment which a kindergarten student is given mid year on the grade. All of this pressure to receive a notice in the mail that there wasn't any space for out of zone students.....but wait it gets better. I KNOW people who live out of zone who WERE accepted. I have a feeling that they choose according to how students do on this assessment and its UNFAIR!!!! If every school could choose its students like this, then they would ALL be on the news for having the highest scores. Don't get me wrong, it seems to be a good school but if your child is a 1 or 2....chances are they won't get in! If parents have experienced a similar situation, please feel free to respond.

We were one of the lucky families that was able to chose the neighborhood we live in and we chose based solely on this school. I am surprised by the review that states "staff can work harder". Having worked in many schools I can say this staff goes well beyond what is expected, teachers go well beyond what they are limited to by the UFT, doing everything in their power to make sure every child regardless of language or special needs becomes a proficient, self-directed learner. The staff and Mr. Spatola in particular, are an absolute inspiration. My kids love going to school and they have learned so much. Every school could learn something from P.S. 172. Plus you don't get to be the #1 school in ALL of New York City unless you are working really hard.

We are still new to this school. I find it ok; however, not pleased with the fact that there are no consistent, afterschool enrichment programs. I believe that the staff can work harder on recruiting good, affordable programs that will expand kids abilities beyond passing State exams. Parents who work fulltime and who believe in enrichment will be very frustrated.

I have 4 children attending this school and can honestly say that the school staff from the principal to the office staff to the teachers and even the crossing guard care about each individual child. The parent coordinator has been such a huge help to us in any situation you can give her a call and she goes above and beyond for the kids. The principal demands alot from teachers, parents and the students which I love because it shows kids that with hard work you can achieve anything. I would recommend this school to anyone.

No other place in the world compares to the dedication, commitment and high expectations that out school exudes. A.D.
