I was formally a student here and graduated in 2009. Reading reviews im quite stunned at the accusations made. This school had many afterschool programs when I was here and parents should know that its called PS 216 SCHOOL OF THE ARTS AND SCIENCE. For crying out loud , Arturo Toscanini is the name of the school and he was a composer! The garden and the library are essentials in education. Plus the school is a showcase school. The school offers a WIDE variety of opportunities for your child to be interested in and take apart in. Im really quite stunned but either way, Im assuming parents would complain if the school was too strict with work, so really there is no winning. Kids here get so many opportunities and to find what they love doing, the teachers are amazing but remember the TEACHERS ARE PEOPLE TOO! and plus things are always hectic on the first day in EVERY school. Going here grew my confidence and made me so ambitious, I love this school and hope to teach here one day as I was taught. As for the parents, always look into schools before you decide what kind of education you want your child to have. Some kids can learn so much by reading or even "picking veggies". So much love for this school!!!

My son went to this school for 2 days. Worst experience ever! First day of school the staff gave the wrong time of attendance & made everyone wait outside in the rain. The second day my son got assaulted by 2 kids in his class and the teachers did NOTHING about it. The staff is rude, they treat everyone like they like they are inmates. This is place is disgrace to the public school system. Very disappointed.

I had twin girls who attended this school and they really had a great experience. Overall my children received a solid education and were really prepared and ready for success in middle school. As long as parents are involved and do their part, you will have a great experience at the school. I must point out however that the PTA is somewhat catty, similar to a high school clique - where if you're not with the IN crowd (meaning stay-at-home mother), then you're OUT. At least that's how they were when my children went there. When my girls started here, there wasn't much in terms of community outreach, after school programs, programs for parents, however the last year or two my girls attended, the school was starting to add more and more programs. Comparing this school to others in the area however, it very good.

If I could grate this school it WOULD NOT GET AN 8 MAY BE a 6. First they could hire much better teachers like Ms. Bambino, Ms. Adler Ms.Alatta, or Ms.Read. Second at the beginning of the academic year some classes at least know what is the class number or a teachers name the rest is a CHAOTIC MESS no one knows were to go who is the teacher or the class number. Third the garden it is nice and fun but I want my kids to learn about more important subjects.Ms Glazer is rood. I just wish someone from DOE could read that and take some actions.

The school is very disorganized . One the first day of school they have my daughter to stay in 1st grade though she supposed to be in 2nd and when she complained they didn't care!! I had to go the next day and tell them. Also they have worst teachers ever, never care who understands and forgetting that they are kids and always being very mean! I wish the NYC school department to take an action with this horrible school.

this school is the worst From the principal, she hasn't got a clue to the teachers.. parents should get together and report this school for their bad performance. The worst decision I've made sending my child to this mad house. So much discrimination is going on in this school it's not legal...

Agreed with the previous comment 1000%. The garden is ok for the kids to learn but they would better hire some good teachers.

If anyone from the board of Ed would ever read this comment. This school PS 216 is a CHAOTIC MESS. No one from the school administration knows what's going on. Starting from the principal Ms. Kaplinsky, Ms Glazer and the rest of the staff have no idea how to handle the simplest administrative or educational tasks. I must say school is so disorganized that makes me scared of my children not to get proper care and attention. Staring from the first day of school no one could tell what class the children were, which for no reason makes a bid inconvenience to the parents. If you call the main office they are very rood to you on the phone saying that it is the order of Ms Glazer not to disclose any information. During the school year the communication with parents is very poor. The kids don't get their homework until few weeks after the school starts. WE WANT OUT KIDS TO GET PROPER CARE AND EDUCATION. WE DON'T CARE ABOUT THE GARDEN OR THE VEGGIES THAT THEY CROP WE WANT OUR KIDS TO LEARN NOT TO SPEND TIME COOKING IN THE GARDEN KITCHEN. BUT THEY DO CARE ABOUT KIDS BEING PICKED UP ON TIME SO THEY CAN RUN HOME. I ONLY HOPE MY REVIEW WOULD BE READ BY AS MANY PEOPLE AS POSSIBLE. PLEASE HELP!!!
