I have nothing good to say about this school. The extra time given after school is dedicated to doing homework. Excuse me, but it is supposed to be for giving extra instruction. But of course when you complain, you are told that your child is receiving all the instruction they need. Most of my child's teachers leave the class when they are supposed to be teaching to take cell phone calls. My child isn't allowed to do that, why are teachers allowed? Teachers do not teach, they just write a few words on the board, and tell the kids to look it up at home. I may as well homeschool. There is supposed to be a dress code as well, meanwhile the girls look indecent and the boys like thugs. Where is the principal? What is she doing to help this failing school? I know, she's hiding in her office til she can scurry out to her car at the end of the day. It's time this school gets new leadership. Oh, and by the way, that last poster apparently thinks that this schools is as good as it was in 1978. Guess what, 34 years have passed. You have no idea what a pit this place is. You have no right to even post here.

I agreed with pretty much every other parent's comments about this school. The teachers inform you about a grade and when you ask them about it, they act like they are talking to another kid in their school and not an interested parent. "Thank you for your concern" is a very patronizing and condescending way to answer a note when a parent asks a question. If you talk to the parent coordinator, they are really there to help the teacher, not the parent. I will work hard not to send my other child to this school.

The results of both the ELA and Math came out today, and guess what? This school is a failure. For the ELA test, they had practically nobody score a 4 in all 3 grades. They had 26.5% of grade six score a 1. How is that acceptable. This school needs an overhaul and the principal needs to be removed!

I absolutely agree with the review below mine. This school is an utter and complete disaster. I am shocked that there are any positive reviews regarding this school. Their disregard for communicating with parents is ridiculous. These kids aren't being taught anything, most of the teachers don't teach, can't handle their classes, the deans are useless and the principal seems to be non-existent. I have heard of quite a few incidents regarding fighting/the safety of students and the lack of teachers and/or security guards on the premises to intervene when students are in danger. It is appauling that we send our children to school and expect them to be safe but that is not the case here at Shallow. I am transfering my child out of this school and sending her elsewhere before she's severely hurt or the NYC Public School system fails her.

This school is a disaster. There seems to be fighting daily, suspensions are just handed out like it was nothing, and no one seems to care that the students are suffering. Failure appears to run rampant here, if a child fails a test, it's no big deal. The place is run like a zoo, they aren't preparing them for anything. The principal is all talk, and inaffective. The gym teachers are a joke, standing around texting instead of actually giving them some sort of direction. There seems to be no discipline. The deans are inaffective. The kids are allowed to act like animals, because they know nothing will happen to them. The principal is scared of her students. She hasn't lived up to her own hype. She needs to be removed and someone who knows what they are doing needs to step in. Only 24% of last years 6th grade could read at grade level. Shouldn't that be a red flag right there? At what point is the DOE going to step in and straighten this school out? I hope they do it before they lose another generation.

There are alot of students that are disrespectful to the teachers, and teachers that can't teach, but that doesn't mean that all the teachers are like that, there are some really great ones. There are alot of teachers that are really funny and that care about their students. Students respect and like the teacheres that treat them fairly. As for inappropriate language in the hallways, it can be found in most schools. There are fights in Shallow too, but what school doesn't have fights.

This school is horrible. I highly recommend parents' whose child(s) may be enrolling in this school to not. This is filled with racist young students, who are not only rude to teacher, but toward other students/classmates. Inappropriate languages are used almost all the time. The staff are very useless and careless. They honestly do not care for your kids, only themselves and making money. The deans are useless, and students are rude. Those kids' parents should discipline their own kid to act mature as a young teenage; and get them ready for high school. Watch out for your kid(s) because my daughter had pretzels thrown at her, and pushed by other people for being an Asian-American. This school really needs to improve in every way possible...

I am very excited that my son will be going to Shallow, the school is great, the teachers are very helpful. School isn't supposed to be fun all the time, im glad the principal isn't nice she or he shouldn't be when it comes to certain situations. Takes a lot of hard work and dedication. when you do well in school it feels great!
