Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

My child just started at this school. So far we are happy. My child loves the magnet program and has no complaints about the teachers. The school work, projects and assignments are online. The math program...wonderful! I love the School of One. The school is safe and clean. The principal seems to be on top of everything, very visible and in charge. The PTA is great they send out notices via email and on their web page. My only concern is that this school's student attendance has increased dramatically and I wonder how this will affect the class size.

My Daughter had attended Boody for three years now and I can't say enough about how much I love this school. The Principal Mr. D'Angelo really is why this school is so great. He is the face of the school. He's at every function. He leaves the weekly messages and sometimes daily messages that are sent to the parents to keep them informed on school activities. He stands outside every morning rain, snow or shine greeting the children as they start their day. That man rocks! I can't wait for my younger children to attend Boody. The teachers are all pleasant. And everyone is familiar with the students. The Principal knows everyone by name.!! Like I said Best School Ever!!

I.S. 228 is a magnificent school. Principal D'Angelo is the greatest principal I have ever met --he gets things done. He also cares about our children and does all that he can to help them succeed. There are excellent teachers in every subject area at I.S. 228 - and they do all that they can to aid our children in understanding the subject matter. Finally, Ms. Sigona is the ultimate educator - what a beautiful, kind and smart individual. Thank you all for 3 years of magnificence. Principal D'Angelo - keep up the good work and continue to bring the latest innovation to the student at I.S. 228 - you are the best!

I feel David A Boody is an excellent school because of my daily experience in the school. As a teacher at this school I know my co-workers and I strive to be the best teachers by constantly keeping up with every students' needs- academically and socially. The principal, Mr. D'Angelo, is the most innovative leader I have experienced. In just a few years he has taken the school from a D rating to an A rating. He truly lives by the model "Eyes on Excellence." Lastly, our programs at our school are rigorous and engaging to our students. Technology is integrated into every subject. Math especially is run by a program called School of One which uses a computerized algorithm that differentiates the skills each student needs to learn and finds the best way that individual student may learn those skills. No student is left behind. Failure is not an option.

My daughter is in the 8th grade. When she first entered the school, it earned a "D" on it's progress report. Then Mr. D'Angelo became principal. That year the school went from a "D" to a "B". The next year it went to an "A". This is a great school that has a nice family feel to it. It is filled with good caring teachers, talented kids and a great principal.

My son is in the music program at Boody. He is in 3 bands in school and the Boro-wide Orchestra as well. He is dong very well and looks forward to the concerts he has to preform in. I have complete trust in the teachers as he seems to be getting smarter by the minute. The school, in my opinion, is underated. I would recommend the school to family and friends for sure!

Boody has few positives and many negatives. The school isn't safe enough and many, many kids get away with misbehaving. There's fights like every week and teachers arent tough enough to control kids. The best point of Boody is its magnets, music and arts. Boody has alot to improve and it is definetly not the best school to go to.we need more teachers that take charge.

I recently graduated David A Boody! It was an amazing school ! The teachers definetly make you feel welcome and during my last year, I passed my regents exam as one of the best in the class and ended with a high average. This school amde me like to read and learn, I had very close relationships with my teachers. They were very close to my heart. It is a great school!

There are too many bad kids attending the school that don't live in the neighborhood. Classes are crowded. Bad students are put in to classes with the smart ones which brings down the quality of education because teachers must deal with disruptive kids.

I graduated in the Class of '04. This school in general is mediocre. I would say only 1 out of every 5 teachers are good. This school seriously needs to impose stricter safety rules and deal with the peer pressure that goes on everyday. I still remember I walk down in the hallways and see people get harassed, threatened, and bullied. This not only happens in the hallways but in school buses also. The reasons for these vile actions come from prejudice, racism, and sexism. The only way this school will succeed is to not accept students with bad disciplines. Also, I remember in my last year in Boody, the system was corrupted. Our senior dues were taken but half the things that were promised were not given to us. The only good things about this school are some of the teachers, some of the school events, and the magnets.

The academic programs are nothing but good. The Teachers are nice, friendly, and very helpful. You can learn a lot from them as well. I am currently in 7th grade, and I already love this school! I am in a SP class (special program for smart people) and a great student. When I came to this school, I barely knew English, but with the help of first, my ESL Teacher, and later on, my English Teacher, I am in the SP class! SP is harder than the regular class, with Enrichment programs, and foreign languages. In overall, this is a great school, and if someone tells you otherwise, They are wrong!

This school is not great. I Reccommend tutoring in Math and then just taking the tests and such. The principal doesn't have a great relationship with the kids or the teachers. (trust me insdie info)The principal tried to come to the school trying to change everything. She tried to make academies that nobody liked.' The only thign good about the scool is the Arts programs and the Magnets. I am in one of the Many Arts Magnets and we have wonderful concerts twice a year, drama shows, dance recitals, and other stuff. But academically dont do it

My son had a math teacher last year that was excellent. My son hated math, now he enjoys math. He is still not a 90-student but he is passing with no encouragement from me. He came home and volunteered to sit down to do his math homework. When he took the math state test he was confident that he would pass. He asked the teacher if she was teaching 8th grade math next year and she said she didn't think so. The 7th graders next year are going to be lucky to get her. His english, science, and social studies teachers were also good, it was the first time he did math on his own though.

I just graduated from this school, and from my personal experiences, its not very good. I personaly, did not get the work from most of my teachers... there are the good teachers that you rarely find and you are lucky to find. The good thing about this school is the music and art. The basketball team is really good too.

Pretty safe and secure school some teachers are too young and not as experienced if the child is in the honors program, teachers are more experienced and generally very good grading system is not centralised: the concepts of 'easy teacher' that gives 'easy grades' still exists honors classes take foreign languages and regent exams absolutely fabulous magnet programs in dance, all kinds of music, chess, sports, creative writing, science, drama, etc. Pta is very involved, lots of things done

Im actually an 8th grade student at this school, but i have alot to say about Boody. The academic levels are average and everything in terms of that is ok, but there is usually problems between people. Fights happened once a week at least, and things are stolen sometimes, wheather its something of a teachers, or a students. The teachers are pretty much very nice, but not everyone is a good teacher. There are a few of those very good teachers that kids die to get, but that only happens if you are lucky.

The quality of the academic program at Boody is erratic and uneven. It is a Magnet School and suffers from the onus of teaching for the State Tests. The Gifted Program was totally inadequate. The only two subjects addressed with any seriousness were math and science. Over all it is a friendly, safe place for children. Be prepared to fill in the academic holes.

As a student in this school, I must say that I don't feel that everyone in the school is overall safe and happy. There are alot of fights in the cafeteria and there is little control in there. There are of course, some excellent teachers and students, but overall, the population of the school isn't something to be proud of. More order should be restored in the cafeteria and unnecessary magnets should be taken away. Magnets like gym aren't necessary for 45 minutes to be taken out of a school day. While everybody else is working on academic, the students in gym are playing around, not learning anything useful for them to achieve a successful life.

Great teachers, especially English, great arts and crafts. Trips for older students are interesting and educational. As a former student I can say that its a great school. The current principal is new to me but the school seems to be running in the same mode.

David A. Boody was a great school that really prepared my daughter for the high school experience. With the Regents classes that she took, she had a major advantage over her peers academically and knowledge of the Regents in High School. She's gone on to be in the top advanced placement classes with the best grades in High School, and I couldn't be happier.

The school has changed over the past three years for the worst. When a parent sees this and wants a change it takes to long if at all to the detrament to the child. You then find out the staff knew of the problems with those teachers but the damage has already been done. However if your child is of the lucky to avoid these problems this school on an overall is a good one. P.S. the 8th grade AP who took over as principal is wonderful and I think she will bring this school back where it should be.

Though the principle respects and attempts to satisfy the needs of the children and their parents (he is retiring in June 04), it is not enough. Many of the teachers seem to follow 'their own drummer.' The teachers in the SP classes teach at a level that is impossible for the children to keep up with. On several occasion (3) I had tests (in math) review by a high school regents teacher who stated 'that the tests are to advance and of a High School level, this not for 6th through 8th grades.' Even with a tutor you may find your child falling behind when their not being bullied.

January 22, 2004
Even in advanced classes and magnet programs, many children seem to be low-achievers with little or no motivation to succeed. Though the school tries to address 'respect' issues, bullying seems to be excessive.

The school lists itself as a magnet school in an effort to attract children of varying talents. They do not adhere to the talent entrance exams and therefore 'pollute' the talents with students are are neither enclined to the subject or are willing to show an effort. They allow students to change thier talent subjects and a mere whim. Too many of the teachers are teaching subjects outside of their expertise. The school is suffering, as shown by a steady decline in their scores over the last three years. The principal is genuine in his desire to be helpful to parents, however sometimes you have to take a stand and adhere to a school policy, even though it may not be popular with parents or students. If this school wants to be a magnet that attracts talents, then the students should exhibit or demonstrate the talent.

I think the school staff is great. My son loved to go to school. They are very good with the children and go out of their way for the adults. I am very happy with this school.
