The administrators at ps 230 have little vision, leadership, and imagination. They might plug in holes as they go along, but they do not have the capability to shape a school into something great. I spoke with the principal and assistant principals a number of times because I did not agree with some of their teaching methods. It was clear to me that they have no consistent pedagogy that guides them.
I am currently going to this school and I think it is the best school so far. I have been in this school since kindergarten and I am having a great year. I am in 5th grade right now so it has been about 6 years in P.S.230. The teachers here are very kind and they help you the best they can. I love this school. P.S.230 rocks!
P.S. 230 is an excellent school with a diverse ethnic student body. I met Principal Sharon Fiden at the first PTA meeting and seems enthusiastic about the direction in where the school is heading in terms of increasing state test scores. 2010, I was very impressed with my daughter's first grade teacher Mrs. Saeed. Very detailed in her responses to my concerns regarding my daughters academics in math. Gave suggestions to improve her math strategies. Now in second grade, so far so good, I have no complaints. I do wish the band program included second graders. I wish they have more physical extra curricular activities.
They call this a gifted program? The so called gifted program at PS 230 is a water downed version of NYC gifted programs. Teachers are not allowed to move their students forward because the Principal Ms. Sharon Fiden has told them that their students have to be taught what the general education students are taught. This was once a great school with a great gifted program, but since Ms. Fiden arrived more than 8 years ago she has dismantled the program. I am just glad my child graduated this last year. .
PS 230 is an excellent school with dedicated teachers and staff. Great kids, great programs. The school is incredibly diverse and rich with culture. A wonderful place to send your kids.
This school is a very big school with a small feel. They do a lot with their meager funds relative to size and with budget cuts, and where the city and state fail with regard to funding, the PTA is active and hard-working, and the administration and teaching works hard to meet standards while preserving its unique approach creative enrichment and learning. It is not a test prep factory. Teachers are outstanding and morale among seems high. Extra enrichment programs are often offered on weekends in science and art.
Since starting as PS 230, my daughter has found a love a reading and writing, science and art. I am astounded by how much she has learned in such a short time. The school is a warm and welcoming place to parents and children. It is the best start to her academic career that I could have hoped for.
P.S. 230 is an excellent school that does its best to keep parents involved at each step of their children's education. They host curriculum meetings, send out monthly newsletters, and host open houses with the school's principal. The teachers are friendly, and have an open door policy. The P.T.A. is super active and trusted, and does a good job of raising funds. There is always a focus on the diversity of community built into the curriculum since the population of the school hails from all parts of the world. I just wish that the lower school (the school is divided into two buildings) had a proper playground.
I was a student at PS230 last year and I loved it! The PTA was very cooperative with the school with all of the fundraisers that they have for the school! The best was the school fair!!!
My daughter is a student at the P.S. 230 lower school and she really enjoys it. The teachers keep the kids challenged and the staff is engaged. Despite the size of the school, the administration stays on top of things and is responsive to student needs and parental feedback. You really feel that the school cares about every student. We give the school five stars.
