I go to this school and it is a really good school. Sure, it's a challenging school but it is awesome. All of the teachers know what their doing and the 8th graders are not bad, maybe a bit annoying, but not very bad. The principal is also really strong and has great leadership. I have challenging teachers, but they explain really well with what they are talking about. Also, there are so many after school programs you could go to.
Great School. So many excellent teachers. One social studies teacher, Ms Frederick is the strictest and *smartest* teacher my son has ever had, she gets him, it was an authentically challenging class for my gifted child.
i really love this school because there are so many programs and it's fun to learn. I hope that when everyone reaches 6th grade, they will join this school
I love this school. I am a student in cunningham and the teachers are determined to help the students strive and be the best they can. it feel like i belong there and the after school programs are the best. so many extracurrliclum activites and such a great learning experience. any child who goes into cunningham would tell what such a awesome school it is.
Full disclosure: I am not a parent. I am a family friend, taxpayer, and wife of a 25-year veteran DOE educator/administrator, and I am concerned about the deteriorating quality of our schools. This school employs and supports incompetent, inappropriate teachers who are clearly disillusioned with their profession; not all, but enough of them to discourage a student assessed (previously and currently) as gifted, perceptive, respectful, helpful, diligent, and eager to learn. Student has been repeatedly castigated, academically and personally, for asking basic classroom questions - circumstances confirmed by the teachers themselves. Parental involvement to achieve resolution is actively discouraged by administrators, as well as teachers. Shameful.
ABOUT 12:30 PM MY SON AND BUNCH OF OTHER STUDENTS WAS TAKING OUT FROM THE CLASSROOMS AND EACH OF THEM RECEIVED A LETTER STATING THAT THEY ALL GOT DISMISSED AND TRANSFERRED TO THE OTHER SCHOOL, WHICH IN MY CASE IS LOCATED MORE THAN 4 MILES AWAY, WHERE THIS IS MY DISTRICT ZONE SCHOOL WHICH IS ACROSS THE STREET. WHEN I ENROLLED MY SON TO START THE SCHOOL I AS A PARENT WAS NEVER NOTIFIED ABOUT ANY CHANGES OR EVEN A POSSIBILITY TO CHANGE SCHOOL FOR MY 12 YEARS OLD SON IN THE MIDDLE OF THE SCHOOL YEAR(SEE THE LETTER THAT WILL BE FAXED TO YOU). THE SCHOOL PRINCIPLE AND DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION SHOULD MAKE ALL THE CHANGES PRIOR OF THE AMBITIONS OF THE KIDS. THAT'S WHY THE SCHOOL STAFF START THEY WORK ONE MONTH EARLY PRIOR OF THE KIDS STARTING THE SCHOOL. I THINK THAT THE SCHOOL MUST DISCUSS ANY CHANGES
This is a wonderful school and a very nurturing academic environment. The principal is terrific and the staff are courteous and helpful. The parent/teacher coordinator at the school is a particularly valuable asset and source of information and assistance.
This school is a very good school. It is because it is up to date on what is happening. The staff members are very involved on what the students are doing. The school also offers many after school programs for the students to participate in and they also welcome the new sixth graders very nicely. They make them feel comfortable. All the staff also encourages the students to strive for what they want and to always try their best.
it is fantastic school my daughter learns everything and anything and her teacher ms. gibaldi is a fabulous teacher
Cunningham is a great school. I am currently a cig 8th grade CIG (center for intellectually gifter) student. Cunningham has great classes the teachers are fun, loving and great TEACHERS! This school offers Johns Hopkins math in 6th 7th and 8th grades for the CIG students. in 7th grade CIG students get to take a biology/living environment REGENTS 9th grade leval giving them a high school science credit. students who are in CIG in 7th and 8th grades are able to take algebra and geometry regents. depending on their pace( CIG math program is self paced math the student is challenged to teach him/hersef. Although the math teacher at lest 3 times a week gives regular math lessons. IN THE END GREAT SCHOOL definately you should attend it if you have the oppertunity
In the past 3 years I learned alot from cunningham this school teaches you alot I graduated in june 09 and it was the best they have so much 2 offer in that school parent I recommend u send your kids there because the teachers are respectful and the kids most likely always get along.
A great school, where the Principal and its teachers are focused on fostering a challenging educational environment that helps all students (not just CIG, Vanguard and Cyber Academy) to continue to grow and achieve their maximum potential. The parent coord., PA are aligned with SLT to support events that increase parent involvement in the student's education.
My daughter is a CIG student at Cunningham and both she and I are very happy with the sxhool. The teachers are wonderful. They really respect the students and are very patient with them. I also like the fact that not only is the student body ethnically diverse but they generally get along with each other. They also have great after school clubs like Newspaper, Arts and Mosaic, Drama, Dance, animation, etc.
I love this school. Graduated in 2007 in the advance classes. Going to school I was given many advantages so that when I came to high school it was so much easier for me to get good grades and pass all of my classes.
I love this school I'm a 7th grader and the students and teachers are very nice and the way they teach us is fantastic
my child attened this school for 3 years. i really regret the decision. the building is falling apart. filthy lunchroom. the school is 600 kids over its limit. this is the reason kids get lost in the system. staff is busy dealing with overcrowded, disruptive minority while the majority of kids get hereded around like cattle.
If you want a great education with caring and highly qualified teachers...this is the place to go! Adminsistrators are involved and knowledgeable. Students are talented and interested. Best school in Brooklyn! Bring us your talent; we will make you soar!
ok i go to this school and iam in 8th grade(currently) its a good school and the teacher are really fun, althroguh the building is old like really old. The cafeteria in the school is awwwfullll.
I think this school is very good. This is a no nonsense school. the parent coordinator is great, the principal is very involved with the students. My son is now entering in the 7th grade and i hope i feel the same way next year. keep up the good work .
