The parent coordinator is very nice after you get to know her. Parents should try to be involved in the PA and get to know the school staff. Don't take anything personally. I felt intimated by the parent coordinator when my child started in Kindergarten. I got to know her and she is a nice hardworking women. If there is an issue talk to her privately about the concern and clear the air.
As a parent of a kindergartner my greatest objective is to expose her to the best. I'm full of hope and positively enthusiastic about her education. I have researched and read countless articled about the first days of school and getting your child prepared. I'm disappointed to report how discouraging, disrespectful, degrading and unprofessional the parent coordinator was to me. I was completely ambushed and I feel it was racially motivated since I was singled out from all of the parents. I worried after my experience at this school what might my daughters daily experience be like. Is this school really prepared to meet the diverse needs of our children and their futures? Are they prepared to model a standard of excellence for our children? I am very concerned about the people who my child will spend 7 hours a day with, will they encompass the qualities & characteristics of people WE all can value? This school had a reputation years ago of always striving to do better but as for what I have seen just a story to be told of the old days! I'm definitely pursuing other alternatives and its going to be an independent school cause as far as I can tell this school is a negative.
The administrative staff at this school is very unprofessional. the Parent Coordinator needs to attend classes on professional development. She is the most rudest person I have ever came in contact with at the DOE. Her negative attitude, unprofessional conduct and rudeness is the reason so many parents are looking into charter schools, parochial institutions and private schools for their children. I am happy to say that my child WILL NOT be attending this school. If the Parent Coordinators attitude reflects the remaining attitudes of the staff and teachers that my child will be in contact with on a daily basis, I want no parts of it. I urge all parents to visit this school before you enroll your child. The Parent Coordinator needs to GO!!!
Looking forward to learning more about this school as my daughter is ready to enter Pre-K.
For Pre-K you are not required to be zoned for this school; however they sent my husband away when we went to register, and recommended we go to another school which was the same zone as PS 236. I called the school years later and the first question the parent coordinator asked is is this your zone school , and before I could finish and inform her that I am moving, she rudely states this not your zoned school. I guess she knows every street in Brooklyn within their zone without be giving out the zip code. I m sure they are proud of their rating, however to be courteous shouldn t be such a challenge.
The principal at this school is dealing with many challenges. Higher standards from the DOE and resistant parents that don't like change. Many of these parents feel the changes going on in the school are personal attacks from the Principal. They fail to realize she gets her orders from the DOE and that she must follow the rules or lose her job! These parents want to be so involved in THEIR childrens lives but they are resistant to the Academic changes going on. Why? Our children are our future we must have high expectations for them and stop fighting change. Work with your kids and stop working against the administration. I think some of these parents should try "homeschool" as many of them have a lot of time on their hands.
It is very unfortunate what is going on in this school. In response to the person who thinks it is the parents running the school...by no means is that true. We are a wonderful community with caring teachers, parents and wonderful children who now have to deal with unsafe situations and a principal who lacks respect for the children, teachers and parents. The proof is in our school rating we went to a "C". Really?? How did the parents do that? It is certainly not the teachers, most of which have been at the school when we received an "A".Could it possibly be the removal of spelling and phonics? Is this the "agenda" you were referring to by the principal. Yes the scoring changed work with it. Something has to be done to bring this school and community back together.I don't think petitions can help -note the correct spelling of the word. Get involved!! Communication, respect, and a willingness to listen is what is truly needed to turn this situation around. These children have there whole lives in front of them and we are there advocate. I would rather be guilty of caring to much, trying to hard, and being to pushy for the children of this neighborhood then not caring at all.
My daughter is a 1st grader at PS236 and im very satisfied with the school. The school has a new principal this year and she is amazing. Thumbs up to Ms McDonald and Mrs Rogers you are two great teachers.
My daughter is in 5th grade. She is very comfortable in her class.Teachers are very encouraging.I like the principal Ms.Barton.She is very caring and always working.Very safe environment.Special thanks to Ms.Labella, parent coordinator. She always answers calls to her phone.
This is my boys first semester in this school and so far it has proven to meet every expectation that I've had of it. The teachers are great and the Principal is like no other, she really gets involved with her school and doesn't just sit behind a desk. The school offers great academic challenges to the students and I am glad that my boys are there. M. Dopwell Hall
This school is excellent. I graduate in 2008 and miss it sooo much. The teachers are the best and all the kids are nice and there is never fights or anything. Not only is this school great for learning it is also very fun with many dancess and stuff like thar
I have had my daughter in 222 now for a second year, she is so happy there.( Which is always such a pleasure for any parent) the teachers are excellent, they are very loving and caring and also at the same time on top of their students, when work is to be done and completed. I am extremely happy with the parent coordinator, who is always keeping up to date on all the activities and concerns about or with the school. Our principal staff is phenomenal, they keep the kids motivated and keep the school running very smoothly. The wonderful teachers and principal always make time for the parents our children. Thank you ps 222 for another excellent year! mrs. Jm
My kids attended this school and I must say the academic programs are excellent. We have a morning programs for the one who need extra help and we have a tutoring program done by volunteers, which is a very excellent program. We really could do a lot more in terms of extra curricular activities let's see what happens next school year. Parent involvement is tops. PA meetings are well attended and parents involvement is excellent. I could not have chosen a better school for my kids. Thanks to the excellent guidance of the Principal and the caring teaching staff that I came to know. Thanks a million. Continue the excellent work and Reach for the Stars.
I love this school my daughter is attending this school and she is always scoring good grade even in the subjects that she problems with. The staff is really careing. And they have a lot of activities like odessy of the mind, chores, music appreciation and plenty more This school is just perfect!!
I think this school is great. My daughter is currently attending this school and will graduate this year. The staff members are great. The teachers really help the students. The grades there are also impressive.
My son attend PS 236 and will graduate this year. My youngest son will be going there in Sep. I love this school. Their scores are far beyong the expectation of the district and it shows. The teachers are extremely dedicated to the growth and education of our children.
Great school if child is in eagle or honors class. Tend to treat other students as 'stepchildren.' They get lower standard teachers and only cooncentrate on test taking practice instead of teaching what a child needs to know at that particular grade level.
This happens to be the most outstanding school in achievement for learning. Their state math and reading scores are always above par. The faculty is made up of very caring and nurturing teachers. If you pick this school, you made the right decision.
This school is an excellent stepping stone for children starting their school careers. The teachers and staff are very dedicated to their students! The afterschool programs are very helpful to those students who need extea assistance in their studies. Im very happy with this school!
