I'm writing this from a limited perspective and it is possible that with time I would see something that failed to catch my attention in the short time I spent in the school. That said, the administration at this school is completely unsupportive to their staff. I can not believe some of the things that were said to me in a situation where professional support and leadership was direly needed in order to benefit the staff and the students. The students run wild (with the exception of the gifted classes), hit one another, and the racial slurs are out of hand. Horrible.
I am a former teacher of this school and I can honestly say that this school needs to have an overhaul. Some of the teachers here know their material and can teach it well if given the chance (this may happen if your child is in the SIG Classes). The leadership in this school is lacking and very unprofessional. They treat the teachers poorly as well as many of the students. The academics in this school is a joke. If you want your child to do 5th grade work in 7th grade then this would be the school for you. While teachers may try to give 7th grade work the administration tells them (the teachers) the students are not capable of doing the work. There is a lot of violence in this school and inappropriate language all around. As a teacher at this school I felt like I was in purgatory and could not wait until my day was over. I have never felt like this in any other school I taught in. Please stay far away from this school.
this school is the best and I love it! this school gives us the opportunity to do anything except wear non-uniform....otherwise it's fine XD
To tell the truth, this school is terrible. There are to much fights going on in there. People coming home with back eyes.
um truly i'm not really a parent of involvement but as i can see so far 3 of my children went to hudde and a another is going to attend this year of 2010-2011 anyway two of my sons didn't succeed in hudde this is where there badness started but from this day on i will remember my daughter Monica who went to hudde and just came from Haiti did terrific job all the teachers loved her she was a role model
I thik this school should have no uniform policy and allow kids to have a study group after school where it is held at the library
My school is great but we really have to do something about the fights. The teachers are very nice and helpful.
Hudde is the best school. It is the one i like. I have two kids who go there. The teachers are teaching them well.
My school is okay but it is not all that. At least that is what i think. The teachers and the principal and the assistant principal are great but something just does not make it right. Don't know. But it is okay.
Im a student at hudde, this is my last year here. The academic at hudde is great. I'm in the top class in 8th grade. Ive been in advanced biology, and now currently advanced earth science. The teachers are all right. The problem is that the school is not very clean at times. Also the school funding is poor and cheap, because there are alot of materials needed for AP classes and we cant do labs because of lack of money. With economic crisis this year, fundings have been cut greatly. This school is not my zone school, and i dont really mind, i take the bus, and this school was worth the good and bad memories. Hudde is a good choice academically, a very smart school it is. Just some problems needing to be done. Note y the school building is shaped like an H, funny to get lost in!
I think this school is quite good when it comes to gifted programs which are CIG, MAGNET, and NOVA . The curriculem is ok and THE Language Arts are exceptionally good. There are related arts to choose from such as art, band, orchestsra, chores, and dance. There are languages include Spanish and French. Programs such as Honor Roll and Arista are availble to 7th and 8th grade students. The down side of this school is that it is dirty and unclean. Since I am speaking from the point of view of a 'gifted' student, mainstream and special education students are...disruptive and may not be included in certain activities that gifted are included in. To enter a gifted program, you must take a test in 5th grade.
its a great school and i believe all kids that want a education should here my son has only gone to that school a year and has gained about 3 years of info he would have learned at any other school its so...so AWSOME
I am a parent of a male child who attend Andries Hudde school, and I must say that I am very very disapointed with the progress that my child has made during the one year period he attended. My score for this school is three star,
There are too many fights and confronttations with my son and all he is learning is how to write his heading he is never challenged and also, he has a lot of diffuculty with his home work.
I removed my child from the school to be home schooled because I do not feel he should be subject to violence as a part of his education.
My son just completed 7th grade in the school's magnet program. The school is tracked and I can't speak for the school as a whole but the Magnet classes have been great for him. He just passed the NY Regents in biology. He is on track for taking the math regents in 8th grade. He travels to the school by bus from out of district and it's worth it. He has made friends. We particularly love the orchestra. He came into 6th grade with no music background and has been taking the cello for two years now. This is a school worth considering.
School office needs to be more professional. Maybe I went at a bad time early in the morning, lots of teachers are milling around talking, children back and forth in the office. You enter you do not know who's in charge, and no one asks who you are of if you need assistance. It is difficult to get in touch with the gifted coordinator for clarification of gifted programs. Students answer phones, switch you to incorrect number at times or you're left on hold for a long time. Problems with reissue of Metro Cards could be a month before you get a replacement. Parent-coordinator you can reach her but results are minimal. This is what I experienced at the beginning of 2004 school year. Eventually metro card reissue was improved to a week or two.
