P.S. 270 Johann Dekalb

I am active also, they do not have enough afterschool activities for the kids, my daughter was in robotics, and all of a sudden she wasn't in it without warning, but i notice the kids who did better drawings were only in robotics, i have never heard about the stepping and was never told but i will look into it and my daughter is in girl scouts but that has nothing to do with P.S 270, and still since september they do not offer afterschool for my daughter for me until off of work at 5:00 so she could do her homework, and i do not want to do family night with the school, you can not get afterschool programs for 1 day out the week but you could watch movies, thanks but no thanks i will do that will my child myself..its to bad they do not reinforce the uniform kids wear what they want which is shouldn't,,,i just think P.S. 270 doesn't have it together...and i dont even want talk about the kids with no manners, and you cant not say anything to them because the parents are always defending them....i dont know i am looking for another school for my daughter

I don't know what the person who spoke about victimizing is talking about. It's amazin how the person did not acknowledge the curriculum and performance or is speaking from recent personal experience. I am an active parent in 270. Unfortunately there aren't enough of us. The school offers robotics, track, stepping, basketball, Girl and Cub Scouts. The school's PTA fight for more parental involvement by offering Family Game and Family Movie Nights. Saturday was their annual Kundum celebration. This is a day of brotherhood where the children of the school showcase their talents and reinforce the message of unity and togetherness. It bothers me that noone acknowledges the hard work that most of the staff does. Many times you will find the Parent Coordinator and staff go above and beyond. Instead of blaming the school we as a people need to look at city politics behind the lack of funding and systematic closings and privatization of public schools. I wonder how many of the parents who complain actually show up to school events and participate in its success. I do agree the school isn't perfect, but if no one will get involved, do they have a right to complain?

I once attended this school as a child. Based on these reviews I see not much as changed. What can you expect from a school that happens to be in an unsafe neighborhood? Not much, that's for sure. I sympathize with the children who have been constantly victimized in this school for their differences, whatever they may be. The upsetting part is, usually the ones who do the victimizing are the very same ones who make it difficult for those children who actually want to learn something with their constant distractions and trouble-making ways. I, too, was a victimized child who attended this school. I would never put my child in a school like this.

Excellent is the word for this school my son is in 2nd grade in this school and he really excels, the teachers are very challenging, and caring they also discipline in a respectful manner, the principal knows each child by name he welcomes parents views, comments, and suggestions. Their new robotics program is outstanding and i'm very proud to see that for the demographics of the school it has a very high academic performance. The school offer a lot of ways for parents to be involved, as with everything in life you might not agree with everything a person do that dose not mean the school isn't doing well. We still need a lot more parents to be involve with the school, though, Keep up the great work.

I am not pleased with this school. My daughter really did not learn much during the last school year. I think there were to many distractions, fights and teasing from the kids in her class. This school is in need of excellent teachers, and a principal that care about distibuting quality education as well as learning to respect the parent views.

I do not hate this school but I do not love it either. The teachers are always yelling. I do not understand how they get such high grades the homework they send home with my kindergartner, my three year old can complete. There aren't any after school activities for kindergarten. I feel like I do not know any of my child's friends because you are not allowed to stay with them in the mornings and its frowned on to walk your child to there class. There isn't anything special about this school expect for two or three teachers who care. I'm not looking forward to next year in that school.

I have nothing positive to say about this school whatsoever. From the insafe atmosphere to the unmotivated eachers and uncontrollable fights that break out between children of this school and the charter school which they share the building with. This place should be closed or at least the administration should be replaced.

My child has attended P.S. 270 since pre-k and my child is now in the second grade. I loved the school up until now. The classrooms are too crowded and the teachers are overwhelmed. This causes the teachers to have bad attitudes at times and they become very impatient with some of the children. I guess it is to be exspected because the higher the grade it seems the more fights between the children there are. The principal is doing the best he can and the pta members are trying but because of the constant disruptions in class it takes away from the children who actually want to learn. So I am trying my best to find a more suitable school where my child can learn more effeciently.
