I find it very hard to understand that this school has teachers that "work hard" when i had to pull my son out of he top class in his grade to save him from being left back. his teacher (the top class) wanted to leave him back from the middle of the school year. I asked her. how come you cant call or email if there is a problem with my child, she said she don't have time. i pulled him out of her class so fast. had a meeting with the assistant principal and the guidance councilor and expressed that, that teachers response to me was not acceptable. now he's moving on to the next grad, but he will not be attending PS272, what a shame. it's right around the corner from my house.
This school has the LOWEST Public School scores in the Brooklyn District. One of the lowest 10% ranked school scores in the entire NYC School systems. Reading: 1st Grade: 31.1 2nd Grade: 38.9 3rd Grade: 28.3 Math: 1st Grade: 32.4 2nd Grade: 30.4 3rd Grade: 23.2 There is absolutely no excuse for the Reading and Math scores to be this low. For the sake of the kids, Principal Keyes should be fired or reassigned immediately.
My son graduated from Curtis Estabrook and he graduated with honors. I have been a constant supporters of the school . My daughter is now attending. This is her 2nd year and I must say Im disappointed. The teachers are absent at least 30% of the time. If the teachers are absent they put your child in different classrooms. This is frightening to a 2nd graders. This year the classroom have about 35 children in each class which to me is a outrage. How is teacher be able to give attention to 35 children? I don't think Ms Dakota Keyes has a handle of what has been going on these past couple of years.
Ms. Keyes wants everyone to think that this school is wonderful but as a parent and volunteer, I know better. I've seen what goes on. It's a whole smoke and mirror routine. The speech she made at Graduation was all about HER and what SHE did and how SHE changed the school. It's her teachers who work hard, it's her teachers who deserve the applause and the awards, not her. I am disappointed that the parents believe her act of light.
My daughter has made a complete turnaround in her attitude about reading since attending 272. I am ecstatic! The positive reinforcement she receives from the teachers and staff there encourages her and makes my job alot easier at home. Thank you, Principal Keyes.
I was very hesitant about enrolling my son into PS 272. Last year, when he son enter kindergarten, the school had a new principa;, Mrs. Dakota Keyes. She is the reason the school has done a complete 180. It started with her passion for the kids and it trickled down to the teachers. Everyone at the school is very helpful and their #1 mission is for our kids to succedd.
As I sit here and read the reviews of parents and teachers, I say to myself, 'You know, it's cool that someone can really write about something and have people like me view it. I am pretty sure that many people heard about the 'Once upon a Time', low- reputation the school had. I as a parent of a 5th grader and soon pre-schooler, have to say that I have seen P.S 272 elevate from nothing to something. In the past when I volunteered as a Learning Leader, I recall the school was out of wack. And yes, it may be true what other people may comment about the turmoil in 272 but I have to say that since Ms. Keyes have taken office as principal, P.S. 272 students, teachers, and parents have learned to believe that 'All is Possible'. I'm sure we will reach for another 'A'!
As a learning Leader here at P.S 272 I Ms. Sharnette Morsby have had a great time, I love to see the children and staff excelle .As a parent with a child in Ms Susan Cohen Class I see change growth and a will that my son did not have the fact that he believes in himself is wonderful thank you Ms.Keyes for a great year.Your parent this one has your back
As a Parent, I have experience the importance and meaning of Partnership with my Child and his/her School. I listened to parents good and not so good experiences at P.S. 272. I have (3) kids Kristoph, Kyle and Keanu; one of which has graduated and has continued in great success! Great success, by the wealth that has been set upon by higher grounds. My 2nd Son Kyle has been doing really great and many thanks to his Teachers, Ms. O Brian & Ms. Molinari and again (us) Parents, working hand-in-hand with school support leadership teams. The strongest element is being part of the PTA, Parents if you really want/need to be heard, you would need to plant your feet into PTA Meetings. It has a huge impact on the result in which you stand. If you re serious about change, you need to work with your teachers, school leaders and your child/children.
I applaud the principal and the staff of P.S. 272; from the moment Ms. Dakota Keyes took the helm our students have gone from last to first on the list of priorities!!! Ms. Keyes has implemented many new and exciting programs that give new life to bright minds. The children actually look forward to school and EVERY morning Ms. Keyes and every single student and teacher sing a Yolanda Adams' song. Finally our kids have an administrator that is truly concerned for THEIR well-being and it shows in each and every one of their bright smiles...... Thank you Demetrius McClammy
Unfortunately, as a parent, I haven't had the same experience. In fact, the principal is only seen in the morning dancing in the auditorium with the students. After that as a parent, you are on your own. One of the assistant principals who has been there for a while is as helpful as she is allowed to be, other than that...
I am really not happy with the effect that this school has on my son, to have a child with special needs in these public schools is not at all beneficial to the child, I feel that my sons teachers are more focused on his behavior than helping him with what he needs to further advance and catch up to his classmates. I really do like the Principle Ms. Keyes I feel she really tries hard to keep the school in order as I have never had any major problems. However, teachers needs better training on how to deal with kids with special needs and I also feel that the school should have a better support system for these kind of children. A parent should feel encouraged to send their child to school and have that reassurance that they will be taken cared of academically and psychologically which I don't feel.
My daughter has attended P.S.272 since 2005. She arrived as a kindergarden student hoping for an awesome learning experience with teachers and friends. As each year passes by there has been many tremendous improvements. The majority of the school staff has been very helpful throughout the years. I am greatful and truely appreciate each individual which we formed a great relationship as if new addition to my family. Mrs. Keyes and staff really care about all the children's education. The school is on the role to become extraordinary zone to success.
I have a daughter who been in P.S.272 for over three years now. she became attached to the teachers from last year and present .She loves her principal and the teachers. I also like the school and the teachers where I can come ask questions about my daughter work and her behavior. I think this is a great school and my daughter is getting a great education.
I have been involved with this school for a year now. The Principal, Dakota Keyes, is like a light in the world for these children. I've never seen a principal actually LOVE her kids, and believe in her staff the way Ms. Keyes does. Although the population of student would be considered 'high risk' I've never felt as comfortable on a campus and interacting with students as I have at PS 272. Not only are kids learning in the culture of this school, (as demonstrated in the change in rating from an 'F' school to an 'A' school) they love being there. The staff is excellent, not to say perfect, but everyone I have encountered has had a heart for these kids, and it's obvious, they're capturing these kids hearts. Thank you. I'll be here all week. I have had children in PS 272 for six years. I have seen the very worst situation turn around in such a short time. I credit this improvement to Ms. Keyes leadership. Since she became principal the school has been transformed. My children talk about her all the time at home. Children always talk about their teachers but its rare that they always talk about experiences with the principal. Ms. Keyes is in the lobby everyday greeting the children and giving out hugs. The children love it. I have seen children run into school to her. Mine included. I feel so good leaving them in the morning when I see this happening. My children love school and they love Ms. Keyes. I am so glad she came to the rescue of PS 272
I am very happy with the improvements that Ms. Keyes has done in her short time as principal. I had a lot of concerns with the previous administration and I felt that there was lack of control. Now every time that I visit the school the students are in the classrooms doing their work. My son that is presently in the school had a great Kindergarten teacher, Ms. Holland and she was my older son s 5th grade teacher, she still calls and checks on his progress and calls him for his birthday. My son now has two wonderful teachers, Ms. Nelson and Ms. Orofino that I am very happy with and they show a lot of interest in his progress. My son is always talking about Ms. Keyes and the conversations that she has with him. Ms. Keyes takes the time to show interest in my son and all of the students in the school. I have been to the school on many occasions last year and I witnessed Ms. Keyes visiting all of the classrooms and the students were so happy to see her, they greeted her with hugs and huge smiles. I always feel respected by the administrations, the teachers and school safety. I currently work for the Department of Education and I visit schools throughout the 5 boroughs, so I can compare schools on all different aspects. The school is always very clean and seems to be well maintained. I say to Ms. Keyes and her staffs keep up the good work and I know the best is yet to come.
I have been at PS272 for many years. I have seen such a tremendous difference in the environment of the school. This is because of our leader's vision. Ms. Keyes truly cares about every child and supports her teachers. She has an open door policy and is always there to lend a helping hand. Her wisdom and fortitude shine through in whatever she does. I feel lucky to be a part of her staff.
I have been teaching at PS 272 for 8 years. Since Ms. Keyes has become our Principal, only positive things have happened. I was given every textbook, workbook and manipulative needed to teach my students. You have no idea how difficult it is to teach without the proper tools. Ms. Keyes made sure that each classroom had what they needed and that each students' needs were being addressed. Ms. Keyes truly cares about the students and their education. She inherited a building with policies that needed to be thrown away and reinvented with the best interest of the students in mind. She has done that. I am proud to be a teacher on her team.
I believe that the positive transformation that I have seen over the past 3 years at P.S.272 are a result of the leadership of our principal. Ms. Keyes puts children first. She loves all of our children and lets them know that each and every morning. I am proud to be a part of Ms. Keyes vision for our family at P.S. 272. I love my job and look forward to helping all my students reach their fullest potential.
