This school is for gifted and talented students interested in drama, science, vocal, instrumental, art, dance, etc. We follow all common core procedures and all students try our best. All teachers are dedicated to their work and work hard to give us a nice education. Each class has science, Latin, social studies, math, and English, including talent as one of the classes. Students respect the teacher and ask questions when they are confused. Many find this school in an excellent learning environment and look forward to coming again the following year. I like the fact that the school allows us as a privilege to watch shows that the dance and vocal talent put on. I think the school could improve by at least having some air conditioned classes as well as the auditorium. All student complain they are hot, but no one could do anything about it.
My daughter just started. she loves it. teachers are friendly, kids are fun, homework is challenging but exciting. We are pleased so far.
My school is The Bay Academy. It is an excellent school. All of the classes, teachers and staff are fantastic. The school has received great ratings and reviews, from New York City DOE and others. AWESOME SCHOOL
BEST SCHOOL EVERRRRRRRRRRR... just wish the gym could be fixed this year :/ Bay academy is really tight on subjects like math and science. In addition, the school divide you by your talents, so students can receive extra classes a week on doing what they love. ... YAYYYYY!
Sure they give a lot of homework, but that's how we are going to deal with life! Teachers are nice and anything bad happens, it gets solved right away! It is clean, and a lot of students enjoy what they like to do in their talents!!!!!!
Just spoke to the staff over the phone. Called to ask if they have after-school programs and bus services. The person from the main office was rude and speaking in a high tone, trying to dominate. I asked her to lower her voice and give me the information I need more in details. She said that she didn't know what they'd have in September, it is based on funding. Great! With this sentence she was ready to hang up leaving me with no answer. Anyway I told her that I will rate her, so others will be careful. I'm not sure should I send my child there or not?
I graduated from this school three years ago, and am now a junior in Brooklyn Technical High School. For the person who said that Bay Academy doesn't report their Specialized HS acceptance rates, just about 75% in my graduating class (Computers & Math '10) got into either Tech, Stuy, or one of the prestigious non-SHSAT schools such as Midwood and such. Granted, I don't feel particularly prepared in the Bay for the rigor of high school (if any student sees this review, please learn proper studying habits now. My average in Bay was a 96, and now my transcript average is an 88, partially because the Bay didn't really encourage studying habits. Everything on the tests were relatively easy). However, it was a great school for developing social skills, I'll give it that.
This school that I attend now, is like a home to me. Sure they give a lot of homework, but that's how we are going to deal with life! Teachers are nice and anything bad happens, it gets solved right away! It is clean, and a lot of students enjoy what they like to do in their talents!!!!!!
The kids can get away with a lot of things, including disrespecting the teacher. Some talents have way more homework than others, and the kids' book bags are very heavy. However, the education is good, but not all teachers teach their students
Definitely overrated! Administration is absolutely not accessible. No system or organization to classes. Teachers allow themselves to scream at their students. Not an egalitarian school, very hierarchical. Academic aspect is not strong either.
If this school is as great as it's staff claims to be, why they are hiding from public the results of SHSAT and acceptance statistics. in IS239 Mark Twain 314 out of 450 kids were admitted to Specialized HS, including 99 to Stuyvesant. however, Bay Academy does not reveal their rate under any circumstances. Apparently there is not much to be proud of.
The school has a strong rating, but only few teachers actually teach kids something at Bay. A lot of times, they don'd even give kids HW! My daughter had Math & Computers as her talent, during 6th grade she did not have math homework for almost 6 month! At the same time all of her grades a very high (who needs a grade without a backup?!) The school can be a good choice for an average kid, but it's not good enough for smart child. They will have a hard time to get in a good high school & keep up there. I'm very disappointed with a school choice I made a couple of years ago.
This is a school that is amazing to work at. The students try their best and always push for more. The administration is amazing at everything they do. Honestly, this school is heaven for the staff members and the students and I wouldn't want to be anywhere else.
It is a great school and gives good education. Bay Academy is one of my top schools, I feel that this school is ten times better than Mark Twain. Everyday when I leave school I look up and admit no other school can beat this one.
I LOVE THIS SCHOOL it is like my second home everyday waking up to go to school is amazing the time passes by so fast because they make learning fun I never wanted to go to Mark Twain i honestly feel bay academy is better <3
I graduated from this school a year ago. Although, the work may be challenging at times, but teachers are always there to help. This school is like a home to us students.
Ever since the new principal has taken control, there is a large lack of discipline, students can get away with anything and they know it. There are to many fights and there is no respect for the staff, I am glad my child is leaving this year
The teachers are amazing! This school really brought my self-esteem up.
I just graduated from the Bay Academy and it is more of a home than a school. The teachers are always there for you. Never be afraid to ask your teachers ANYTHING. Yes, the work can be challenging, but that is what you are there for, to work hard. The Bay Academy also allows you to show your various talents at the same time. I was in Drama Talent. In 7th grade My class 831!!!! put on the Cinderella play and in 8th Grade, we put on 'You're A Good Man Charlie Brown' THANKS TO Ms. Comas!!! I miss ALL of my teachers!!(Ms. Lord, Ms. Comas, Ms. Norwich, Ms. Herman, and many other teachers!! THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING!!! P.S. I am going to put my name: Tamara Taylor McDonald (Class of 09')!!
like many other reviews, i will start by saying i am an eight grader in the bay academy. Schools are schools but bay is a home. Bay is where we started our transition from kids to young adults. Bay is a palce you can feel welcome. Sometimes it's not even a school its a place of enjoyment.Don't get me wrong the work can be a tad difficult, but the teachers are there with us every step of the way to help ease the pain. Wheter the pain be about school or not. I'm graduating this year and more than my friends i will miss bay. It was my home and i loved it there. But when u love something and let it go, at least you always kknow there some lucky kid who'll have the opputunity to enjoy it after u. I'll miss u bay
