Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

I am a parent of a child in the middle school of DGK. My child has been a student of the school since first grade. My child is performing wonderfully in all academic areas. The curriculum is updated and in line with NYC public schools. I feel that I have made the right choice in enrolling my child in DGK. The enviroment is very welcoming. I am fully satisfied with the quality of the education, teachers and principal. The principal works with parents and staff and is always available to speak to regarding any concern or question a parent may have regarding any matter. If you are considering choosing DGK as a school for your child, I highly recommend it.

Stay away from this school!!! If you're not part of the "IN" crowd you are treated like garbage & your kid is ignored and condemned starting from the principal all the way down to the custodian. Favoritism is rampant and how much money you have or lack there of, dictates how well your child will do. This school is run by a small "Elite" group of parents that control the administration & staff. Most everyone employed there is a relative or friend of this elite group so their kids get preferential treatment, and are honor students regardless if they deserve it or not. None of the graduating students make it to any specialized high schools they all go to private high schools where no doubt their parents will make some kind of donation to "buy" their child's grades! Class sizes shrink as they go up (7th grade has 1 student) because parents get fed up with the bull & pull their kids out before they can reach middle school. Save your money & give your child a good education.....anywhere else other than DGK!!!

It is upsetting to read negative reviews about this school, which is contradictory to what actually is. Since the recent change in administration this year, DGK has made an absolute-turn around. Last year, the growth and livelihood of the school was plighted by poor administration. As a component of the learning environment of the school, I can personally affirm that the new principal's presence has done nothing but welcome beneficial changes. Change is not easy, however, it has been the most advantageous theme here at DGK this year. The principal and school board have been working in tandem to assure that DGK can continue to develop the framework of this school. In addition, the school faculty and staff have also worked extremely hard in favor of fostering a better and STRONGER learning environment. Parents also continue to extend the olive branch and help promote the academic and social growth for their children. Check out our school website if you are interested in more highlights, http://www.dgkschool.com/ - We are blessed!

This is an excellent school with a very safe, caring, nurturing, and professional environment. I have two children that have been in this school for the past 4 years. I have been very impressed by the continous improvements in services, facilicities, parent involvement, administration and staff. The school has recently brought on a new principal as well as many new staff. The school seems to be on a fantastic track. I could not be happier with the direction of the school, the education my children are receiving and the environment at the school. I highly recomend it to anyone that is looking for a fantastic school for their children that they can stay with until they are ready for high school.

We had a bad experience at DGK as well. I can't get over all the lies we were fed about this school. Which is probably why as you go up the grades the classes thin out very noticeably. I can't imagine how some parents are risking their children's education and emotional development by keeping them at this school. The way a number of parents praised it I often wondered if our children were actually attending the same school or they didn't have a clue or they had other issues. A handful of parents and teachers dictate the childrens education. The teachers are not of good quality and acted unprofessional. Principles come and go clearly because they are not given any authority. The environment is closed and pretentious and very clannish. Many of the parents take the school personal. Not serious but personal. I caught one of my children's teachers in so many lies and denials about her harsh and improper language and behavior towards my child and myself that I literally had to shake the creepy feeling she gave me. Money wasted on superficial things. You complain but all it gets you is snubbed. Good judgment is lacking from the top down. Very unfortunate for our community.

Not satisfied with this school on many levels, big sales pitch then big rebuff when it didn't live up to what was promised. It is poorly run and mismanaged. The teachers either overloaded the students with to much work or gave hardly any. Some of the teachers and staff have an over the top authoritarian style, yelled inappropriately and said humiliating things to the children. If you have a complaint about a teacher or the curriculum you are given lip service but in the end your expected to either put up with it or leave quietly.

Teachers are bad and the people who run things are even worse. Overall feeling is exclusive and snobby with out any genuine substance, which at times was actually comedic.

No school is perfect but I have to say this one was exceptionally bad. Asking anyone for assistance gets you know where, unless it's in their best interest. It became clear that they want it this way and if you make a complaint or even a positive suggestion about change you become unwelcome very fast. Intense social pressure to conform even if you don't think it's in the best interest of your children.

I feel that DGK teachers are not competent. My child didn't learn a thing. Very disappointing considering all the hype over this school.

DGK is a great greeek orthodox parochial school. the teachers are caring, qualified, and dedicated individuals. the curriculum is challenging and accountable. the students have the opportunity to grow up in a community that instills the greek language, tradition, and religion of our heritage. as i stated before, DGK is a great school however, it is not for everyone. if your needs as a parent are more than your child's needs, i highly recommend an alternative educational placement.

Avoid. Poor quality all around. Teachers are inadequate, not worth the money. Curriculum is either overwhelming or not enough depending on the grade. A lot of nonsense with the parents.

I have 2 children at DGK and I am extremely satisfied with the education that they are receiving there. My oldest child has scored high fours on state exams. The teachers are wonderful each child gets the attention they deserve. You definitely don't find that in public school. There you're one of many. The school provides a safe family environment. The children learn a second language. Greek is part of their daily schedule and its easier than going after school. My children enjoy going to school everyday. The curriculum is more demanding than public school and that can be a problem for some children who are a little behind. However ,even those children eventually catch up. I would definitely recommend this school.

I have 2 children in DGK and we are extremely happy with the education, the staff & the environment. My husband and I are both very well educated with post graduate & doctorate degrees. The DGK School has been an excellent experience for my children. They treat the children as you would treat your children with love, compassion and they try to teach them respect and how to be good citizens. My daughter was in Kindergarten last year & she was reading by Christmas time, which was exceptional. She is in the first grade and is reading newspapers. I know my kids are in a good environment because when I pick them up in afterschool they love it so much they don t want to leave.

Excellent Academics and Faculty. I currently have 2 children in the DGK School . DGK school lower grades enrollment continues to SKYROCKET which is a testament to the excellent teachers at the school. My decision to stay in the DGK school for good was after seeing the progress of both my childrens development educationally and socially in Kindergarten, by October both children were fully reading, I was amazed with the magic this teacher was able to work on my children. Furthermore the past 4 years Kindergarten enrollment was 18 children, 16 children, 18 children and 26 children this year. Through third grade the school has maintained those numbers once again proving that our staff and and academics are right on! The proof is in the numbers. While there will always be 1 or 2 parents with a complaint if 98% agree that the school and teachers are great they must be doing something right.

The school is more like a home away from home for all the students. The teachers take special pride in all their students. As a parent, I feel relieved my children are in the care of such fine educators. DGK Parochial school is the best environment to learn and feel a part of a family.

I had a very hard time choosing a school when the time came around for my children to go to school. The school was very helpful in helping see how the school works and the teachers let me into their classroom with open arms and got to see the teachers at work and how the children loved to learn. They are avery hard working teachers and dedicated to their children, and the school tries as hard as they can to raise money and keep the school going!

My grandchildren are so happy at this school! My grandaughter and grandson attended nursery and are currently in Pre-K. When they visit they are so excited to sing Greek songs, and speak to me in Greek. I'm so proud of everything they are learning - reciting their ABC's, pointing out words in the stories I read to them, and counting to 100! I'm very happy with the education they are receiving at DGK!

While the academic program is excellent , I am most pleased with the caring and thoughtful approach that is given to the students by the faculty and staff. This learning atmosphere is one that should continue to be nurtured and helped along in every way.I am very happy to have my children attending this fine school.

A safe and nurturing environment for my junior high school age child. A place my child loves to go to each day. A place my child feels that they can accomplish all they set out to do with the guidance of the caring and supportive teachers.

As a previous student and PTA Board member (years later) I have to say that the teachers in this school work hard to provide the best education they can to each individual student. Every student is cared for in this school. I am lucky to have gone to this school and am proud to say the school just continues to get better. I am also a teacher at a public school in Brooklyn and I use the teaching styles of my DGK teachers to teach my students.

Only if your Greek! My daughter has only been here for a month and although I like the program so far it is obvious that this is a Greek school for Greek kids. They teach the Greek Language and Religion, which I think is great but it is extremely cliquey. The parents and some of the staff will speak Greek right in front of you often turning their backs on you. Her teachers and the principle are very nice and my daughter is enjoying herself. They will tell you that they want your child to continue in their school, it goes from Nursery to 8th grade, but that's just ridiculous. They encourage their children to stay with their own and there have been a couple of times I have felt bad for my daughter for being left out, you know how it goes. Too bad nice little school.

Small school, very nurturing. Teachers are caring, and dedicated. The administrators are open to comments and willing to work with the parents if an issue is brought to their attention. The small class sizes mean our children don't get lost in the masses, teachers are able to give personalized attention and assistance. Love they are learning Greek language and culture. Great school!

This is a terrible school. I had my son and daughter at this school. I took both of them out and put them into public school, where I know they are getting a much better education. There are some very caring teachers here, however except for the pre-k teachers none of them are certified. Many of the teachers give an overwhelming amount of homework. This school is trying very hard to succeed but they simply don't know what they are doing. The administration accepts criticism well but is unable or unwilling to make any changes.
