The principal and office staff are not really very personable, but the teachers work very hard to make it a great school!
i am extremely happy with the school and teaching staff- the decision was simple, my youngest daughter was starting kindergarten and the school she was to attend was only offering half day sessions, and my eldest daughter was a target for bullies in that same school because of her sweet and kind disposition.Since making the switch my eldest daughter loves school her anxiety is gone , and she comes home happy and eager to share what she's learned for the day. my youngest who started kindergarten this year loves her teacher's and classmates and her love for learning had jumped off the charts. her reading has improved tremendously , the information she knows that compared to other kids her age in public school are not even learning yet is incredible. if your a parent who is thinking about switching to this school i say do it you will not be disappointed . There is more one on one time , and you have direct access to the teachers.
RCS has come along way - their test scores are up, they implemented a great electives program on Fridays, called "Explorations", they participate in NYSSMA, as of 2009-2010, they have a new instrumental music program (including strings!) My kids are happy that they have hot lunches now, instead of the cold lunch that had been provided by Riv. District. The Spanish teacher is amazing. I love all the teachers - the only drawback is the principal, who's really not a people person...but she gets the job done.
I am very happy with the school staff except for the current principal. The staff outshines her in all areas. The education levels expected for the children are far above what is expected in other public schools.
The school provides a safe learning environment; top-notch teachers; science-based learning; and diversity.
May daughter has been going here for 5 years and is getting a great education. The teacher and staff are awesome.
My stepson attended this school for 3 years and then because of long days and long commute sitched to public elementary school in the longwwod district. The riverhead charter school is not up to par with what the public schools are teaching. My son went in to 4th grade and was expected to know his times tables up to 12 and know how to right script. Riverhead charter taught him up to 8 and no script. I suggest you not put your kids in this school, because it will set them back.
My son attends the charter school since the 2nd grade and could not be happier. The teachers are the greatest and give their all and are an extremly dedicated staff. I wish that I could say the same for the current principal who I have seen be openly rude and disrespectful to the teaching staff.
my son has been in Riverhead Charter School since the middle of kindergarten and is now just beging 2nd grade, I couldnt be any happier with the teachers that he has had all caring and respectful and they have that reasonable push to get your children where they need to be. I hope this year is as sucessful as the past two and I am very happy to have my son in this school and pray that they are able to expand in grade level before he enters 7th grade
The teachers are very warm and caring, unfortunately the current principal is not. The past principal was much friendlier
