Total lack of communication between parents and school. They do not meet the needs of special needs kids have put my child down numerous times concerning their disability. Very sad

The teachers are great; there is a strong school/parent connection; very close knit school community; kids love it.

Green Meadow has experienced a lot of change the past few years with district restructuring and new housing cropping up in the area. This has introduced diversity which so far seems to have hurt the school's quality. Academics are suffering due to overcrowded classrooms. There still exists a segregation between 'old' Green Meadowers and 'new' Green Meadowers, both with the students and the parents. The principal and some teachers, most of whom are extremely talented and experienced, seem defensive and reactive when faced with these challenges instead of being proactive and creating solutions to the problem. State tests are also challenging the school as some teachers seem most concerned about test scores. I hope better days are ahead for this once great school.

About the tests

In 2011-2012 New York used the New York State Assessments to test students in grades 3 through 8 in English language arts and math, and in grades 4 and 8 in science. The results for English language arts and math are displayed on GreatSchools profiles and the science results will be added when they are released in the Fall of 2013. The tests are standards-based, which means they measure how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of New York. The goal is for 90% of students to meet or exceed grade-level standards on the tests.
