As with anything in life, you reap what you sow...the effort you put into something directly correlates with what you receive and achieve. Education is no different. Every school has its challenges and every child faces his or her own issues. It is up to every parent to advocate for his/ her children and support educational efforts. If the parents are involved and value education the children are more likely to be successful. Students who have parents who support their education and are on top of things are more motivated to put forth the effort to succeed. The school needs to provide a safe place for learning to occur and the teachers need to provide challenging, relevant lessons to teach the curricula to meet NYS standards. But we can't do it alone. The students have to want it and that desire does not happen by itself.

This school focuses more on sports, mostly the bad one such as the football team. the fencing team has won more than 25 county championships, is great for the kids to learn discipline, yet gets no attention. the football team hasn't won anything more than one game since 200! and yet, the school decides to put in a multi-million dollar turf football field with lights for night games. the fencing team is using equiptment from 1970!! The principal is doing an amazing job. The assistant principals are the worst, they dont know what theyre doing and they think suspending people is the best thing for them when they decide to do nothing!

CHS is a decent school. Not the best and not the worst. The job gets done if your child is willing. You do have to stay ontop of things. The administration does not do for you, so you do have to push. Actually the administration is probably one of the worst I have seen in years. The kids do go to college but the work must be done by the parent. CHS is lacking more of the upper level classes (such as more college courses and the IB course). How can our children compete for college if the school doesn't have the same programs as other schools do? They do have enough after schho activities and the music program is fantastic. All in all the students do well as long as they have a strong parental support.

Centereach HS Is focused on the needs of their students, they offer extra curricular activities. I found that the teachers are dedicated and spend time working with the students on an individual basis.

CHS doesn't have the most amazing programs. But it gets the job done. There are AP classes, band opportunities. Basically, the tools are there if your kid to do well if s/he wants to. The teachers are hit or miss. This isn't a school that holds anyone back. If your child wants to go to college, she can. But don't expect the administration to go out of its way to get you into the college of your dreams. Self-motivated kids need to design their challenging programs on their own, decide which SATs to take, and where to apply. Kids don't typically go ivy league from CHS but it does happen from the kids that want it to happen.

I think the administrators running this school are very unprofessional. They talk to parents with such disrespect, not to mention the students as well. They need to know, You get what you give. Children desrve respect just as much as the administrators and teachers. Some teachers in the school have problems keeping their classes orderly. They need lessons on how to be in control, not the students. They should listen to the students more.

The academic programs of 2005 are very good there are many electives and many AP class to choose from. The Arts program is extremely good the band and chorus recently competed in Florida and recieved all first place awards in every catergory. The sports are also very good, the local lacrosse division is very competitive, and the track team will in my opinion will be amazing with in the next two years. The school really tries to involve the students and has many fun activities like class competition in which each grade competes in fun events like musical chairs, grape fruit pass, and tricycle races.

The teachers are the ones to help us kids understand and get a better education so we can succeed in life and hopefully go on to college. Parents should get more involved because this is the chance you have to guide your child in the right direction in life.

Had 2 boys go through this school. They received an excellent education. It takes a partnership of the parents and the teachers to make this work.
