Excellent school with very qualified teachers, lots of available electives for students, competitive with athletics and academics. There was one area I felt they lacked in though. We are a military family and my daughter transferred to the school the summer before 11th grade. The counseling staff didn't seem to understand how to help transfer students very well and didn't provide consistant information on diploma requirements since my daughter was not staying in NY for college and therefore didn't need additional endorsements on her diploma. We had to figure out a lot of that on our own.
Certain teachers/staff in this school have bullied (put their face near my child & screamed for no reason, threatened physically, wouldn't allow passage through), deliberately miss-graded my child because I complained about the teacher
To this parent, it sounds like you are the only parent that feels this way about M-W. It seems to me you are wrong and everyone else is right because you are the only parent or student that gave the school a bad review. If you don't have anything good to say, don't say anything.
Excellent school. Best public school in the area. Competitive student body in both academics and athletics. Great teaching staff.
this school will help you through out your journeys in life. i hope you will enjoy your time at this school
Monroe-Woodbury wins in my book for one of the best public high schools in New York State. The school is one of the biggest i've come across, which in the long run helps kids adapt to the college size and life. The sports are this school are also one of the best, if not the best, in the state as well. They're football is ranked nationally as well in New York, and they're sports are always top notch in winning state competitions. Anybody transferring to New York should be putting their kids in this high school. It's exceptional, but fairly high in school taxes and well-worth.
What a privilege it was to study at MW. This public school is exceptional at cultivating students, and the variety of extracurricular activities strengthens a student's growth. Some of the teachers are comparable to top universities' professors (I speak from experience). Mr. Filippone is a lovely person. Finally, the top graduates of each class have the opportunity to attend top- and second- tier colleges and universities!
I go to this school and for me this school is great. I just love it and it's amazing. Go Crusaders!!!!
I think this school is the best....with all the classes that they offer. Their teachers go above and beyond to give these kids the knowledge to get ahead and prepare them for the future. Monroe-Woodbury is the best.
Monroe-Woodbury is an amazing school that allows students to prepare for life ahead of them. It is a privaleged school that offers many electives. Students are able to experiment and decide what they want to do in college. Monroe-Woodbury is a safe place to learn and I wouldn't want to go anywhere else.
I think this school is great. The teachers are very involved and really seem to care about the students.
This school main focus is sports oriented. I don't think this school emphasizes academics. It seems like if you're not participating in sports, you're nothing.
My daughter is a Junior at this school & has been a student here since 9th grd. She is doing wondefully & is an A/B student. She is taking advanced Spanish for college credit & the school offers many opportunities for extracurricular activities & sports. The school is large however, I think this is good to prepare the youth for college life. The classes are not over-crowded. The principal is approachable and the school has zero tolerance for inappropriate behavior.
Great school, Principle is a people person, kids love him. He introduced music in the hallways at arrival and dismissal times. Teachers love to help students.
I attend the M-Dub High School and I love it. Its a great school, and offers many classes. I agree, it is crowded and there are too many period in a day, but other then that its a wonderfull school. Its starts a bit too early. 7:15, first classes start and its way too early.
Monroe Woodbury has excellent educational programs with various honor and Ap classes which offer early college credits. The Music program is one of the best in the state with numerous bands, orchestras, chorus and plays. There is a tremendous amount of active clubs including many in language, buisness, student council, government , law, health and more. The sports are no doubt exceptional, as the school excells in cheerleading, basketball, baseball, hockey, soccer, voleyball, tennis, lacrosse, track, swimming, and Football! Though it is a large school it is safe and nonviolent. Excelling in academics and extracurricular activities Monroe Woodbury is the best public school in Orange County and one of the top picks in New York State.
Academics are outstanding for such a large public school, though the community is growing quite rapidly and it will be difficult for the school to keep pace. Extracurricular activities are also very good, with the music program being one of the best in the state, and the football team are the reigning state champions. Parent involvement is also good, and this past year's new principal, Aldo Fillipone, is 1000 times better than the previous princapal. Most importantly, however, for the 06-07 school the football looks to repeat as state champions and has a great chance to do so with all the community and school support it receieves because of the quality of the school district.
The academic programs at Monroe-Wooodbury have always been above par, but as the more experienced teachers are begining to retire I fear what will become of the core courses.
The change of priciple has definately been beneficial. MW is a good school, with excellent classes. They offer Honors, AP, and college credit courses, along with most electives I've ever seen. The only drawback is the size of the school, which is way too big for my tastes.
M-W HS offers a wide variety of programs to suit the needs of just about any level of academic achievement. Preparation for college-level work is excellent. Teachers are experts in their areas, but often equate good grades with good effort, which is not necessarily true. There is a wide variety of the arts available. Sports are big in M-W as is the music program, which is first-class. Parents are deeply involved in their children's academic and extra-curricular activities. Taxes here, as elsewhere in the area, are high.
