My son has a disability and an IEP and the Cleveland School was UNBELIEVABLE in helping him and far exceeded our expectations of how well he could do and how well adjusted he has become after leaving that school. Kudos to Cleveland and the Central Square District. I can't say enough about them. THANK YOU!

I don't believe they support children with learning disabilities. My son receives services but is put in what they keep calling a" least restrictive environment" but is supposed to comprehend the core curriculum. The school does not modify or adapt any of his school work to his abilities. He is not provided a teacher who is educated in special education. The school uses negative reinforcement to reinforce positive behaviors. I have had to fight with them several times over this because my don did not understand why he was being punished, he only knew he was bad and made an example of in front of the children. They also do not keep me actively informed when special products such as compression vest are actually being started. I am informed and consent to them but am not told of date of start for them.

Cleveland Elementary is an absolutely fantastic school! The Principal, and the teachers truly care about their students and thrive on seeing them do great things. They focus greatly on helping the families and the children to become great people of character, while excelling in all academic areas of their education! I cannot say enough good things about Cleveland Elementarty! It is a fantastic place for a child to begin their education. They make the children eager to want to learn more and more. So that their success will continue well beyond elementary school! Thanks Cleveland!

Cleveland Elementary is a fantastic school for our children. The Principal has an unending enthusiasm for each of the kids at this school and thier futures. He inspires the children to succeed...a tremendous role model. The teachers are exceptional, and are constantly looking for new ways to teach and challenge our children. Rather than teaching the 'minimum' required, we truly feel that our children are being prepared to be the leaders of future generations. Thank you Cleveland Elementary! We feel extremely blessed that our four children will be obtaining their elementary education at this wonderful community school!

About these ratings

About the tests

Beginning in the 2012-2013 school year, the New York State Department of Instruction implemented new assessments designed to be aligned with the Common Core State Standards. The new standards for proficiency in these subjects are higher than in previous years and the percent of students earning a proficient score is expected to be lower as a result of this change. See this letter from New York's Commissioner of Education for more information on these changes.

In 2013-2014 New York used the New York State Assessments to test students in grades 3 through 8 in English language arts and math, and in grades 4 and 8 in Science. At present 2013-14 results are available only for English language arts and math. The tests are standards-based, which means they measure how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of New York. The goal is for 90% of students to meet or exceed grade-level standards on the tests.
